bolas launcher
Apr 6th, 2004 at 9:07pm

I was just thinking are there any sticks or something that are used to make bolas spin faster, go farther or anything like that. I was thinking about making one but im not sure if there is a design that worked yet, if one even exists.

Yeah, use it just like a staff sling.  Basically, make the staff of a staff sling and hang the bolas off the hook.  Then just give it a swing.  The bolas will just fly off the end, and with a bit of tuning for the weight of the bolas, you can get a great amount of power.

Sorry.. must have read this and then "thought of it".

This is a great idea.  I suppose any bolos can be launched via this approach.

I just got a inspiration from the word "nasty"..

Here it is..

Use barbed wire, rather than piano wire.

Why?  becuase it would separate the cubes bettor, being stiffer.

And, those little barbs.. gotta hurt!

Of course, the barbs would become coated with all kinds of crap with regular practice too!

That is one mean looking machine of destruction!
My bolo is 3 chains with a padlock on the end of each one, I'll try launching it at a fence post to see what happens (hell, that's practically SCIENCE!).

what are the pyramids made out of? lead? Lead would be softer but still hard enough to break bones. looks nice by the way.

Nice Bolos.  If the lead were triangular and fitted into a hollow ground triagular blade, it would make a self sustaining injury upon penetration.. multiple perhaps!

Is that chain connecting them?

And what is your stone thrower?  It looks like a stick leaning up agains the door.

Is it just a smooth pole that the bolos slides along under acceleration?

Nice device, the stone thrower.  Looks a little short at the website..

I wonder if it should be made of spring steel, so you get a good snap with less effort?

PrimitiveWays tries to use only primitive materials, gained from resources surrounding.  Spring steel does not, unfortunately, grow on trees.  And I think that a lot of energy would be wasted in the spring. Nice idea though.  A long piece of bamboo might have a similar effect.
I play a little game I call Chinese Darts.  Basically, it uses a stone thrower, but with a dart in places of a stone.  The aim is to hit a target.  I use quite small darts with heads of large darning needles.  I think that if poisoned, they could easily kill someone, the poison finishing off if the darts did not hit hard enough.
