Mar 9^th, 2004 at 7:00pm Has anyone here read the book The Sling: for sport and survival by Cliff Savage? I am curious about the terms he uses ("socket". "hurler" etc) as well as his identity of course. Also I find interesting that his sling design features a cut-out diamond in the center. Any thoughts?

I have used slings with a diamond cut-out in the center for years. I saw that pattern originally in a book on outdoor skills by Clyde Ormond. Like a slit, the diamond can help the sling to conform around the rock to some degree. Scott

Hey Douglas,

I picked up my copy about two weeks ago. Its not bad overall. I am going to try and make a tree mold like the one illustrated on page 65. Like Scott pointed out the diamond is to help the leather form to the ammo. If you would like I have an article on slings from a magazine named The Backwoodsman I would be happy to scan a copy and email it to you. It shows mostly the diamond cutout and has a nice explanation of the design.
