OK, I found a knot called a "Midshipmans Hitch Or Tautline Hitch" (go to realknots.com). If tied correctly, it's adjustable, like a slip-knot, but only if you hold the knot with one hand and pull on the rope with the other. You can put as much pressure on the loop or the rest of the rope as you want, and it won't slip! How about using it at the end of each of the cords. That way, you can make the loop small for a longer sling, larger for a shorter sling. Hope this is making sense...
