Title: New video detailing my current most used/favorite sling
Post by swiftcreek on Apr 19th, 2026 at 1:46pm
Hey guys, I just posted my first full length youtube video which is an overview of one of my best slings and some of my thoughts on projectile curve. Check it out if you'd like and drop a comment to start some discussions.
I hope you enjoy it and let me know any thoughts on what video topics you'd like to see next or any general improvements I can make next time.
Thanks!

Thank you FloatingFlint and CrazyBrave333 i really appreciate it.

Yesss that style is my go to for quick slings. Definitely gives you some blisters after a while but it cinches down nicely without cutting circulation. You can also use it in several different ways besides how i do.

Oh, hi!
I've seen your short videos before, and I was intrigued by your throwing technique. It's a throw where you spin behind your back in one direction, then immediately before throwing, you switch to spinning in the opposite direction. It's the same, or similar, in the film "House of David," where he breaks clay pots. It looks quite impressive.

Maybe it's just me, maybe it wasn't, but it seems like you came up with something unique in the way you made the sling. More specifically, in the way the rope is thickened and tapered. I'm not entirely sure how it's done or what's inside the braid, so if these are your own ideas and you'd be willing to share them (meaning others might start copying this solution), then you should probably dedicate one of your next videos to the topic of sling making.
Good luck!

Looks kind of like a behind-the-back Figure-8.  Definitely looks cool.

Video idea.  Make a tutorial of that style breaking down the movements.

Thank you both for the video ideas Ill start making some plans for full length videos.

I've yet to see House of David but i think i know which throw youre talking about. Eventually i want to make tutorials for every throw i know but that will take a while and am sure will be an ongoing process as i morph and optimize each throw.

And i'm sure i'm not the first person to make a sling similar to this. We have no clue how large the range of sling designs throughout history is as they are so prone to degradation from the elements. Even with modern materials i would not at all be surprised.
I first made a much cruder paracord version with just the sheath as the whipping and no taper/splicing. I put a short length of sheath maybe 4 inches on the release side for abrasion resistance and for some small amount of uneven tapering. Unfortunately i lost it in the woods after using it as a staff sling with my trekking pole and it flying off. That sling felt cleaner and more efficient than anything i had made yet.

I have no qualms about sharing my design, i think the more knowledge out there the better for all of us.

Yeah, I haven't seen it either.
We're talking about this fragment: https://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1739299873/19#19
You can see a bit more detail in the film's trailers or in the video on the channel of the guy who trained the actor. The links are in that thread.
