Pep announced the dates for the 7th Slinging World Cup.  It will be October 19 - 25.  I'll update this post with the flyer as soon as he sends it out.

I don't remember any Canadians in the past three years (which are the years I've been there).  If you go, Pep will be able to add a new flag around the outside of the flyer.  He'll love that! :)

Time to start practicing and saving.  Are there published rules and competitions.  I have watched the videos of the previous competions and adding the Canadian flag to the poster will be excellent.

Great question.  Let me expand a bit for anyone thinking about it.  You can see by the date range that the event spans a whole week, but the actual slinging for the World Cup is only on Saturday and Sunday at the end.  There are practice competitions and other events all week, but it's only the last two days that are required.  Slingers will show up at different days all week.  I always get a flight on Tuesday and arrive Wednesday.  So you don't need to be there all week.  It's up to you and how it fits in your schedule.

There aren't published rules, but it's pretty simple.  The World Cup is a total of 40 tennis balls at short distance (13 meters, or maybe the switch to 15m finally happens this year) and 40 stones at 20 meters.  You will sling 5 shots at a time.  There can be a bit of a wait.  You might sling 5 and then wait half an hour or more before going again.  It can change but last year we did all the tennis balls on Saturday and all the stones on Sunday.  I like that more than having half and half days.

The best piece of advise I can give you is do the Practical Paracord Online Competition (https://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1676666931).  And when it starts back up in March, do it every week.  It's literally the best training tool.  It can help by:

It keeps you practicing every week.

It helps you get used to slinging when it's 'time to sling', and not just when you feel like it.  You need to give Channing the date/time when you're going to sling.  And you need to go at that time whether you're ready or not.  Just like when your name gets called at the World Cup.

You'll get familiar with Channing and other guys in the comp who will be at World Cup.

You'll get familiar with what competition looks and feels like and it won't be as much of a surprise when you get there.  Not to take away from the fact that live competition is a whole other beast in itself.

Are you guys coming for the whole week, or just the weekend comp?

I'm not booked yet, but I'm planning to be there at least a couple days ahead of the weekend. There tend to be quite a few people there even as early as tuesday/wednesday, so there's lots of great hangouts and slinging. The weekend is just the icing on top!

I'll arrive there on Wednesday around noon.

And like erricrice said, there's lots going on.  You can do whatever you want if you want to venture around, but Pep always has the week filled up.  There's places we go slinging, visit different areas, etc.  He uses all folks who are there early as a kind of advertisement for the World Cup (and I don't mean that in a bad way).  We've done practice tournaments at schools, parks, out on the beach one year.  It's busy, even before the actual World Cup.  If you get there early, don't worry about getting bored.  It won't happen.

Oh and for anyone who hasn't been there before - here are three things I found useful:

1 - The public taxi service doesn't have an ordering app like uber/lyft, but does have a text interface through whatsapp where you can order a taxi to your current location without having to call. Text anything to +34 971 33 33 33 in whatsapp, and follow the prompts(in spanish). It'll ask you where you are(you'll share a pin in whatsapp), and ask you when you want picked up, etc. Very easy to use.

2 - this is a pin for a field near a school in San Josep that is the "practice" rock competition location. We did a warmup competition here thursday last year, but the field is just a vacant lot and has the diana/net set up all the time, and tons of rocks around so feel free to go there any time for practice. It's about a 15 min taxi ride when there's no traffic.

3 - this is a pin for the rock beach that you've probably seen in prior year's photos/videos. The entire beach is perfect slinging stones as far as you can see in all directions. I'd recommend trying to make time to go here, it's well worth it. It's sort of behind an apartment complex and doesn't have an official marker on local maps, but the locals generally know it as the "airport rock beach".

Man it's gonna be a party this year!

Pep confirmed in his whatsapp group that we'll be at the same hotel as last time. If you're not in the whatsapp group, message Pep @ his number on the flyer and ask him to add you - that's where Pep sends all his communication before and during the world cup, so you need to be in it.

He recommends the room with Breakfast and Dinner included because we are usually all coordinating details for the day at breakfast, and slinging presentations/discussion at dinner. Pep really packs the days full so unless you want to miss some of his plans, you won't have much time to explore on your own. Last year we filled up almost the whole buffet area just with slingers for meals, it's pretty awesome.

She's actually got a pretty good greek, and I think I've convinced her to join the women's competition!

I'm arriving Wednesday, 21st.

If anyone wants some vectran, dyneema or dyneema sheathing I can bring some along with me. I've heard it can be expensive elsewhere, but here the cordage is only around 1,20€/m. Maybe it works out cheaper for someone :)
