Title: New from Nth NSW
Post by PVS on May 6th, 2025 at 8:54pm
Hi all. Looking forward to being part of this community. I have been seeing a guy on tiktok slinging, and two days ago thought I could have a go at making a sling so I did. Some synthetic rope I had, braided some lengths, made a leather pocket from a template I found here after looking online.
Practiced a bit with some crushed aluminium foil balls to get a feel for technique and found a sideways launch is most comfortable. Got some stones and launched around 50 today.
Always been interested in non firearm weaponry, been an archer for 50 years, got some swords and machetes, martial arts history as well.
As I said looking forward and ready to learn.

Thanks all. Watched a couple of videos last night and when in town this morning got some jute. Made a Balearic style and had a few test launches then soaked it in linseed oil and is now hanging to dry. Also tapered it too but jute is only thin so will wait until I get to the city to find some thicker twine. Have around 70 mtrs left to practice with until I get some thicker stuff.
I have found a new hobby.

Greetings PVS,
Welcome from Sherwood Forest in England.
Don't worry about getting thicker jute, you will get way better results braiding what you have to give the thickness you need.
😁👍
