Title: Egg Challenge 2025 Post by IronGoober on Mar 22nd, 2025 at 2:08pm
Easter is approaching. I think it is egg challenge time. If you can afford it. I will probably be using a plastic egg this year.
For the uninitiated, the egg challenge is to make a video involving an egg being broken by some means with a sling, and to try and make it entertaining. Past year's entries: 2024: https://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1709701611 2023: https://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1678415870 2022: https://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1647305749 |

Love it! :thumb:
A few of those chalk eggs were sooooo close. That reminds me of something. With dry chalk it shatters, like you were doing. If you soak it in water for a handful of minutes first, it splatters. Not better or worse. Just another fun thing to do with chalk slinging. |

I like seeing the swing path from the splattered colors! That might be a useful diagnostic. Fun video, I liked the chalk especially.
Thanks for getting this going! I actually totally forgot about it. time to go get some eggs. |

Whoa, I had no idea, definitely have to try this! Adding splatters to the mix would be so cool. IronGoober wrote on Apr 7th, 2025 at 11:32pm:
Ha yeah I didn't think about it that way, but it's a good retrospective aim measurement! It's actually sort of in line with a game idea I had while doing the tennis ball segment. Pick some fairly close distance to a wall like I had here (probably anything < 10m) and sling at it with a tennis ball with the goal being to get it to come straight back to you so you can catch it. See how many times in a row you can do that without missing! I'm not sure yet if a catch after it hits the ground would count, but we could vary that for easy and hard mode. It makes for a great practice exercise too since it forces you to: [olist] [/olist] Haven't really tried it yet since I don't have any good walls nearby(the one in this video isn't super easy to get to and the field is often in use). But seems like it could be good fun for a leaderboard sort of thing like the can challenge! |

"Correct rifling spin."
My tennis balls consistently bounce to the right when they land. I get the feeling you'd see something similar off a wall. |

Check out my egg challenge video, you'll see otherwise ;) Bouncing to the right when they hit the ground actually indicates that you probably are releasing with rifling spin and they would likely come directly back at you from a wall, assuming you are right-handed. Ammo that is rifled would be released out of a right-handed pouch spinning clockwise when looked at from the back(with a side-arm throw), meaning the bottom of the ammo(6 o'clock) would be traveling left(also looked at from the back). So assuming it doesn't hit anything and eventually reaches the ground, that left-spin on the bottom would propel the ball to the right just like you were seeing. And if that's the case, then that means the "front" of the ball would be at the center axis of the rifle spiral and wouldn't be moving hardly at all and thus shouldn't bounce off in one direction or another when hitting a wall, but straight back at you. Give it a try! You might be surprised how it turns out! |

Oh. Yeah. That makes sense. I wish I could find a wall I could use.

Ha yeah I've been looking around trying to find a good one myself. Seems like it could be fun if I can find one and spend some time fiddling with it!

Dang, nice shot!
I'm jealous of all your wide open spaces. We've gotta drive quite a ways to get to anything like that down here. |

Killer throw man! :) |

Travelling down to the south coast today, and there is a great stone beach also. Fingers crossed, will be able to do the egg challenge at some stupidly long distance.

I sure hope so! Build a bunker for the camera near the egg!

Super cool AA! :thumb:
I'll be at the egg coloring celebration at mom and dad's this coming weekend. So I'll have the usual targets available after that. Not sure what I'm doing yet. Probably a repeat of something. Maybe pendulum, maybe aerial target, maybe 30 meter attempt... Not sure yet. We'll see. |

Filmed my egg challenge, but still trying to find the time to edit it…
In the meantime, there was some egg painting at the place I’m staying at. I didn’t do any, but guess which which one is my mums… ;D ![]() |

Bit late, but here it is: https://youtu.be/rr8IjOQ3i5k
Couldn’t measure the distances, but my guess is the first position was roughly ~50m, and the second ~70m. |
