Title: Greetings Earthlings
Post by Saethryth B on Dec 27th, 2024 at 1:16am
My name is Cass, Happy Christmas and New Year or Yul.

I am using my old re-enactor name. I live in Norfolk. I have bows and arrows, crossbows, axes  etc..but not a sling. In fact, until yesterday I didn't think they would have been used as an effective weapon. HA. So now I know differently, want to learn how to make one and use it. Luckily I live in Norfolk where the fields are big and flat and have a coastline close by. Am now going to peruse mediaeval slingy thingys, materials and how to make, whilst watching you tube videos on how to fling straight.  :-[ Thank you for letting me join Joe.

Hello Cass and welcome from Sherwood Forest.

Ewe toob is your friend. A basic sling can be made in less than 10 minutes.

David Morningstar, Mersa and Mr.Jaegoor all have channels and live here too.

See "I'm new, how do I...?" on this page and  Sling academy on general.

Happy slinging.

😁👍

Welcome from Bermuda Triangle, Florida.  Who you calling "Earthman", Slarbik???

Lots of simple DIY slings here can be made in 10-15 minutes with not much more than a pocket knife.

Paracord does NOT rule, there are hundreds of cords/strings that work just fine and are much cheaper. Unless you're in love with lime green, electric purple, and fuscia colored string...

When learning to throw, you're only allowed to hit yourself on the head once.

Never sling within a mile of a greenhouse or even a single windowpane.  Glass is a magnet for every known form of ammunition heavier than a cottonball.

^Facts

I once hit the only custom made full size leaded stained glass window within what must have been 10 miles when I was a kid.

The gravitational pull of the glass increases proportional to the expense and or shame you incur at breaking it. Sorry, we don't make the rules, we just try to observe them as best we can. Usually as we are breaking them at 120 mph.

Anyways, glad to have you. Welcome from Texas.

Oh dear, us slingers are most certainly rulebreakers... I hate to say this, but my head has been hit by my own stonebearing sling many times. It hurts one's pride more than one's head, in all honestly.

Regardless, welcome, Cass, from California!
