Title: )(*^%# Drought!
Post by Rat Man on Nov 10th, 2024 at 10:58am
South Jersey is having it's worst drought in 120 years.  It hasn't rained here since August.  Consequently there are brush fires everywhere.  This morning at 5:30 when I got up the smoke was thick.  It was worse than the smoke from the Canadian wildfires.  Fortunately it has lifted some, at least for now.  I'm tempted to do a Rain Dance.  Those of you  who remember my story of the last time I did one know why I'm reluctant to do so.  Anyway, we desperately need some significant rain.

I missed that or don't remember it.  Do you have a link to the post, or a quick recap?

And yeah, it's really bad in some places.  I know there's all kinds of camp fire bans going on now.  I was just on a short camping trip with some friends, and we weren't sure if we were going to be able to have a fire or not.  We were able to as it turned out (thankfully).  I believe because we were on private land and not state owned.

Climates are so interesting. It hasn't rained since April here, and that is quite normal and isn't at all considered a drought.

And yes, please share the rain dance link.

The drought continues.  Three days ago New Jersey issued a statewide drought warning.  My little Lake Rene looks terrible, especially my end which is the shallow one.  Droughts suck.

I feel your pain man - we regularly have pretty horrendous droughts here - our last one had family members days away from having to sell the farm. Causes massive bushfires and starving livestock... horrible stuff man.

The last one was so bad I was at my friend's wedding - and they had family from Broken Hill (very very dry remote area) and it started raining at the wedding. Heaps of kids under 6 years old started crying because they had never seen rain!!!! Didnt know what the heck had happened and the sky starts leaking!

I would be happy to share our constant rains and coolness. I hope your drought will stop and the long-awaited rain will fill the earth.

As of this date our drought continues.  My end of the lake is miserably low and dry.  I assume that someday things will get back to normal.  I miss having real lakefront.

I saw on the news that there are some communities banning fireworks for the 4th this year because of things being so dry.

In the past ten days we've had about ten inches of rain.  Last night alone we got almost four inches.  My little Lake Rene if full for now.  Hopefully this pattern will continue.  A potentially record breaking El Nino is forming now.  It's supposed to cause more rain in our Southeast and hopefully here in the Delaware Valley too.  So far it seems to be happening.

Been getting some rain more regularly here too.  We weren't in a drought, but definitely some patches of grass were starting to turn brown.
