Title: Interesting slings for trade
Post by RhonanTennenbrook on Jun 27th, 2024 at 9:28am
Hi everyone,

The slings I make are made fully out of Dyneema fishing thread. I currently make 0,75 mm and 1,2 mm Dyneema thickness braided slings with netted pouches with my own "button" release mechanism. I based my design on an old tutorial from the old slinging.org website (by Matthias Borstad, https://slinging.org/26.html) with several design changes of my own.

I would love to trade my slings for interesting slings from all over the world. I'm deeply interested in historical designs and reproductions and natural materials. I would love beautiful Balearic, Egyptian, South American, leather, etc. slings in exchange for one of my own slings.

I can answer any questions regarding any part of the design of my slings and can adhere to any dimensions within the design restrictions of my slings.

Kind regards
Rhonan TennenBrook

What's the smallest one?  I've been trying to imagine what an EDC sling would be like, but have generally been coming up blank.  You see examples like this from Pan Slings, https://youtu.be/_UDip-kRlmw?si=ELstQ0a-cUIYKKGr, where wrapping around your wrist ends up kinda bulky and disorganized.  I also figured since you wouldn't want to be carrying around ammo, and assuming the sling was small to make it easy to carry, gravel-sized rocks is what I figured would be used.

The smallest sling in the picture above is actually the longest. It was a custom one for a long range sling with a small pouch.

You don't actually need a small pouch to have a sling you can wrap around your wrist. The sling below is the first Dyneema prototype for the slings above. The pouch is bigger than the biggest one in the picture above. I just wrapped the entire sling around my wrist, fed the release end through the loop, tucked it underneath, and then spread the netted pouch to cover all of the wraps.

However, I don't think my new slings would work well wrapped around the wrist. The new slings are braided MUCH tighter, the cords much stiffer, and they would probably not be comfortable worn around the wrist.

Would you be willing to make a tutorial or guide?  I have some kevlar and UHMWPE string I've been wanting to use, but so far the only thing I can think of would be to bundle them up and do a twist braid like Archaic Arms does in his how-to video.

I did link the original guide in the first comment above.
https://slinging.org/26.html

You can experiment with that and see what sort of sling you come up with.

New sling finished.

Full pouch, release knot mechanism, 76-77 cm long, 12-13 g.

I will probably be taking a slight break from braiding slings, but please do propose trades if your are interested and have something nice to offer.

Hi RhonanTennenbrook.  I resized your images for you.  If you can, please resize your images smaller before posting them.  It will prevent them from being gigantic on the screen.  We have instructions for Windows and Mac posted here: https://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1676672557.  If you have any trouble with the process, I'll be happy to try to help you.

Cheers man!

Is there a way to see them at the original?  I'm trying to follow the same guide Rhonan did, and kinda been looking at his braiding and knotwork for the parts I'm struggling with.

Thank you!

Sure.  What area do you need to see?

There's definitely a value in seeing certain things in a high resolution.  But if that's the intent, it's a good idea to crop it down to a more specific area so we don't have a posted image that's 4000 pixels wide.

Dude! If you want, I can send you a zip with loads of high resolution photos. I even got some good ones I haven't posted. Some even of the braiding process for the sling.

I'm also more than happy to answer any questions you might have regarding the slings. :)

Hi hi

The sling in the last images is actually a custom one already spoken for for trade.
I would gladly make you a custom sling if you want.

I suggest you try out the button release mechanism. I'm really proud of it and I think it works great. I also have some beautiful buttons ready for use in a sling.

I'm also waiting for some beautiful multicoloured blue dyneema in 1.2 mm I ordered. I would like to make a sling out of that.
What sort of slings would you have to trade?

Rhonan, I'm not sure if you've seen it, but I sent you a PM with a  few of my experiences trying to make a net sling.  I appreciate the offer of extra pictures and will happily take you up on that, as well as any input you have on the trickier parts like that start and end of the pouch.

Thank you!

Hey Scant,
Here are pictures of my EDC.As you can see it rolls up nice and small.
I slip it in my pocket and forget it is there.

Part way down this page you'll see my post about my Butterfly Net pouch.  I can do the bamboo yarn cords shown or round-braided leather "string necktie" cords...

Hi hi

I would be interested in the sorts of slings you can make. However, it will have to wait after this year's SITH. I have entered and I suppose the SITH will take up my sling making time. Can you send me a few examples of the types of slings you make?
