Just a photo dump of museum slings for inspiration.
I'll add from it to time to time when I find other interesting specimens, but feel free to comment. I may also sneak in some faithful reproductions... I don't own any of these images. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I've seen very little exploration of this mixed braid/weave within the pouch from modern slings. Unbelievable how clean some of them are. I'm still not sure how to integrate a fibre braid into a weave, how do you splice into the warp and weft when they run out?
The Sierra-Leone sling looks interesting and not too hard to replicate. The Mexican one would be a good project to try out. |

Hey Lewis,
This is, for me, a fascinating thread. Sorry to be a pain but any chance of credits please ? Cheers 👍😁 |

Thanks for posting these pictures!
I remember coming across a tutorial similar to the "pacific_sling.png", and after a quick google search I found an associated forum thread: https://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1335980338/45 (tutorial: https://itanohu.blogspot.com/2012/11/chamorro-sling-acho-atupat-tutorial.html) Now I know what my next project is :) JudoP wrote on Jan 6th, 2024 at 6:56am:
Same. Does anyone here know how to make one? |

I've collected the images over quite a long time, so it'd be a real chore to try and find the links for all of them. That being said, if there is a particular sling you have in mind, I might know where I sourced it. |

Glad you like them! I might just have to go and resize all the overly large images though for better veiwing... Ah yes, the Chamorro sling! I remember trying to make one of those just when I was getting into sling making, but in the end gave up. ;D I do like slings that come out of the South Pacific. It's the exotic feel about them...or maybe its the idea of slinging in a tropical paradise that's also alluring. |

Indeed, it's masterful work. Can't imagine they were quick to make... It's hard enough trying to figure out what your looking at, let alone attempting to replicate them. |
