I think your assumption is correct. Looks like fishing and bird hunting with a sling happening together.

Good remark Thearos. I hadn't thought of it.
On Wikipedia, Hercule is represented among the Greeks with a bow and a lion's skin. He represents the god who protects against wild beasts. How is he represented in the rest of Mediterannean world ? I don't know. Just my idea, this mural illustrates the leasure activities of the Etruscan rich people : birds hunting and fishing. |

Yes, it could just be leisure. Note that there is a representation of Herakles slinging at the birds (scroll down)
