Title: Video of Turkey Style because I thought it wasn't that bad

Here is the video, enjoy!:

Hey! So One thing that I saw years ago was a guy doing a kinda trolling thing, talking about being an Appalachian sling hunter and talking about how they were slinging razor glandes at bears, and it was very dumb and funny.

And I wanted to sling the turkey style as I have only seen 1 video on it from Kick Slinging (Who I am sure is here).

No I am not trolling I swear, but I do actually quite like the style! i have a video uploaded here for folks to see that I did whilst at a local tennis court. I gotta say the power was great and it was easy to launch these balls well over 25 meters (something I struggle with on other styles when compared to stones). Accuracy is really good too, I was able to consistently hit about the same 2 square meter area with most of the shots in the video... even if it can't be seen, sorry not many good places to set up a phone in the court.

Anywho be well! I haven't seen many videos of this style, perhaps because it kinda looks dumb, came from a meme, but it definitely isn't terrible.

Ah, good old RS.  I actually missed a lot of the communication with him because I joined right near the end of his time on the forum.  But even I ran into the situation of asking him for a video of things he claimed only to get no response.

The Turkey style does work.  I think the movement is very similar to Apache style, but the pouch isn't held with Apache.  It can definitely get some power.  Good video.  It's looks like you're doing well with the technique.

Kick Slinging is a member of the forum under the name Kick.  He doesn't really check in anymore though, unfortunately.

Yeah! I agree its a lot like Apache, one problem I've had with apache style does seem to get addressed with this one. Namely, that I can't really get apache style to work with any remotely long sling, I don't know the science behind but being able to pull the sling taught before throwing makes long slings work so much better. I suppose I could just use a plenty heavy rock in the pouch to stretch the sling out so it works right but I tend to make my slings for a specific size stone thats common around here in Idaho (Granite cobbles between 1 1/2- 2 1/2)

That looked great. I know a few others who have experimented with it. It does seem to require a certain sling length to work well, though.

Yeah! I have experimented with a few lengths of slings. I have found that slings that are too short are clunky. You can make it work but its probably better to just throw it apache style once it's short enough.

I do wanna fiddle with longer slings to see that upper limit. I figure it may be as long a sling as you can reasonably hold with the (very very clunky) method but I dunno, I find it interesting and kinda fun so ill probably fiddle with sling length in my freetime away from the job and whatnot

The problem with Turkey Style is range.  When I first started slinging I used just Apache.  It was OK but I could never get my shots to go any farther than 90 yards.  But there is an obvious advantage.  With no twirling windup you don't scare off game.

Check out Tombelaine's discussion not long ago of the Greek "hunting" style without any wind-up.  Similar, but doesn't involve holding the pouch -- maybe better (or at least less finicky) for a variety of sling lengths.  Joe Meadmaker did a video of that style too I recall.

I have been recently experimenting the apache style with a baseball pitcher's Legg added  in honestly no real success as of yet but it just dawned on me other day made me feel kinda stupid actually for not thinking of it sooner as I used to pitch in high school
If I ever get it down pat I'll make a video lol

A couple guys here have always said the turkey style is not that bad. I think a lot of the stigma is just the fact so much of what RS said was so outlandish it tainted the idea of the turkey style as well. It looks ok to me. The only issue I have with styles where you hold the pouch and pull against it before throwing is you tend to release with varying resistance from one shot to the next which can be difficult for pinpoint accuracy. It's not the worst problem in the world but something to think about.

That being said I think the name fits. Everything Ive heard about turkey hunting is they have great eyesight and you would probably need a style that lets you get the shot off with very little movement and very quickly.

style chatter. Take a stick or throw a stone with your hand... every moment someone comes along and announces a new style. Turkey styles. It's idiotic.Sorry.Now I was angry again

Well then you're really not going to like the newest style Ive come up with. The Drunken Wombat style. I will go to Ibizia next year and win with it.

Well, then have fun. While some people find drinking and slinging chic, a drunken style is missing. Why not get drunk Master. A pity. There was once a small chance of a good international one Slinging. I don't see this goal. Instead. Sling dance, pseudo maximum power. Razor blade bullets. What happens when the good Pep leaves the stage tomorrow, do you also go to Ibiza? So as I said, have fun. If you call yourselves modern slingers, I'd rather stay old school😉😜

When you behold the power of the Drunken Wombat you will change your mind. All you need is a properly made feather sling and razor glandes. I'll teach you the style if you want.

Oh yes. Drunk American. This style already has a master. Then why not a drunken wombat?

But I only drink German beer while doing it.

I think I can speak for everyone on this forum who was in Ibiza this year.  Yes, we will still go even if Pep is not there.  We don't go to see Pep.  We go to sling in the competition and interact with other slingers.  It doesn't matter who's in charge of the event.  I wish you would forget about Pep and come to the competition Jaegoor.  I hope to meet you one day and see you sling in person.

It's a shame you still don't understand. This is also the wrong forum to discuss this. You want to get to know me? Come over. My Diane is ready. Whether outside or inside.

Maybe you're right.  But a week ago I was able to sling with IronGoober, Mersa, Uwe, and a bunch of other guys I never thought I would meet (in person).  If a lack of understanding is needed for that to happen, I'll take that trade every time.

Maybe next year we'll organize a stop to visit you before or after the World Cup.  ;)

Yeah that's fair, I can get some good distance with it but compared to just giving a good helicopter wind up, especially on longer slings its quite the difference!

Yeah I have seen Meadmakers video and took a bit of time to scour the forum! I have tried out the style and I think it's just me, but I am having trouble getting all that energy that Joe was able to get in the video. I am certainly messing something up but for now the style doesn't work for me. Though I have always struggled with those sorts of 'catapult' throws.

Yeah that sounds good! Wouldn't mind seeing how it all turns out. Aside from some decade+ old videos I haven't seen a ton of Apache style.

In this case, I will have to create a topic about my style, which I used 3 years ago when I started slinging. It only works with very short slings, my first slings were very short 15-20 centimeters, and surprisingly I threw small stones of 40-50 grams at a distance of 120 meters, my small stones from such a short sling almost flew to the other side of the river

I'm curious to read you. With a such range, the speed of release must be significant.
