Title: Looking for a lightweight sling
Post by Tigger32 on May 5th, 2023 at 10:04pm
I have a collection of paracord and jute slings but they're kind of bulky and heavy unless I make them shorter, anyone on here selling a sling made made out of something lightweight? Maybe Dyneema or nylon? I noticed when the sling is lighter I can get greater distances and time my shots better.

What exactly are you looking for, I might have enough materials left to make a dyneema cord seatbelt sling , weights around 15g so it’s super lightweight. But also you could make one easily enough.
Where are you located (postage costs)

What Mersa said.  What kind of ammo are you slinging?  I make lightweight slings with bamboo or flax yarn  braided cords and thin leather for slinging golfballs.

That sounds like a fun and unique sling for sure! I live in Omaha Nebraska. Do you have an etsy store?

I usually sling run of the mill abandoned landscaping stones, and sometimes the lighter weight gravel chunks.

Postage will probably blow the cost out and you’ll be better off building your own than me sending you one.

Try out one of acroballistics  slings on Etsy or  ryansoldtimevisions , for a seatbelt style.

What type and diameter, dyneema do you use?

For distance slings I go as thin as I can without sacrificing the use , really thin will tangle lots .
Probably around 1-2mm

For target slings I like 2-5mm depending on the exact size and style of sling .

What exactly is the intention of the sling I can suggest differently depending on usage.

I just noticed for me that lighter weight slings have a cleaner release. My preferred length of a sling is about 32 inches from knot to the pouch. Imo it's the perfect balance of length and accuracy.

I’d go for a 3mm cord at that length for a balanced sling . 2mm dyneema for ultralight.
3/4” webbing strips cut at 7” long. Times 2 . And make a seatbelt sling .

Or purchase one of the slings I mentioned above.

The 3mm, just a single length of cord by itself or should I braid them?

"Zing It Throwline" is good stuff. 2.2mm diameter.
"3mm Robline Dyneema Mini Spool" is another.

You don't NEED dyneema, but it is good stuff.

Otherwise, just grab some garden twine (sisal) and do a 4 strand round braid for your cords, that makes a pretty lightweight and strong sling too.

Butcher's twine.

I like 3mm by itself. If you’re gonna braid dyneema it’s  better to use a slightly smaller diameter.

Speargun line (dyneema)
Throwline (dyneema)
Kevlar and technora is also nice fibers
Also really like a polyester sheath on dyneema core .
There’s plenty of options.
