Title: Egg Challenge 2023
Post by joe_meadmaker on Mar 9th, 2023 at 9:37pm
It's a bit down the road yet, but everyone should start thinking about the egg challenge for this year!

The only rule is you have to break an egg using a sling.  It's definitely preferred that the egg is the target and not the projectile.  But if it's fun and entertaining, do whatever works.  :)

The setup can be anything you want.  Some people lean toward skill type shots, others are more for entertainment.  Both make great videos.  And if you set up something difficult but can't quite pull it off, tell us about it anyway.  Maybe it can be a challenge for others to try!

Cheers everyone!

**Update: This year's event now has a promo trailer!  Thanks to Mersa for hosting it on his YT channel!  :thumb:

Also, there's no official cut-off time.  But maybe we can plan for an unofficial cut-off on April 16th.  That's gives everyone more than a month to get videos in.  But if we need to go longer, all good.

I think I’m gonna have a crack at my first online comp… No yolks about it.

Should be a shell of a good time! All-white, will check in soon. Need to scramble and make a YouTube channel

With the price of eggs these days, this has become the most expensive marksmanship competition on the planet!

Well that was literally the first shot with gravel.
It was a close shot but I didn’t expect it to hit straight away. Might have to do another one this year

Awesome!  Yeah, wow!  That was quick.

Where would you gauge the average size of the gravel (1 cm, 1/2, ...)?

Yeah probably 1.5cm at the most but lots of stuff less than 1 cm

Honestly now I’m thinking a normal sling and a handful of small stones is a great option for super close shots .
The air resistance will rob power over distance but at around 5m or less I can see this making sense for specific applications. Mainly a shot to the eyes . You know the saying

aim for the eyes!!!

Perhaps it has some applications in hunting but getting that close there’s probably better options.

Really want to try it again, I got a few ideas

Just as a heads up, Sylvain isn't on the forum.  I told him I could sign him up but he declined for the moment.  I'll keep on him until he says yes.  ;)

Here is my entry. Not very good as I didn't actually get it, but it was a fun challenge.

Having to time your wind up to match the eggs' motion is one of the hardest parts of this challenge and something that I just wasn't working that hard to figure out. I'll have to come up with a better method next time. I knew that when they were out at the extreme position, that was the best time to release, as they would come back to the middle by the time the ball got to the eggs, but timing that was just too much to ask with a 3 spin wind up. Maybe something like greek style would be better suited. Also, maybe I'll put them closer together next time so the transit time between eggs doesn't matter as much and if the first egg deflects the ball a bit, it also won't matter as much.

I wanted to put more time into it, but just couldn't seem to get the free time I needed to give it a real good effort.

Yeah, something without a rotor could make it easier.  Or don't have a set spin count.  I know for mine I get the rotor started and go into the actual throw when the time is right.  Whether it's 2, 3, or 5+ spins, I'll wait for the throw.

Good attempt Squirrel!  A pendulum is definitely a tough target.  And when the target point is as small as an egg, that steps up the difficulty that much more.  The pendulum is my favorite trick shot target by far though.  It's been awesome to see a couple others for this challenge!
