I have been slinging off & on since about 1980, mostly off. When I started there was little or no information available on how slings were made & how to use them. The first sling I made was a narrow (35mm 1 3/8in) short (400mm 16in) leather strap & I quickly discovered that it needed a finger loop, release knot & some cupping in the pouch to keep projectiles in place. The black one in the photo.
In collaboration with friends I then made a longer (800mm 31.5in) sling with a separate leather pouch (150 x 45mm 6 x 1.75in) & leather bootlace cords. The pouch was cupped by wetting it then tying it tightly round a golf-ball sized pebble until it dried.
Recently, I was motivated by Slinging.org to make a few new slings & to redistribute some pebbles round the countryside.
I made an Aussie seatbelt sling, with a pouch 150 x 50mm (6 x 1in) & the length mid pouch to release loop end is 865mm (34in). After that I made a Cap Paul using Curious Aardvark’s template, pouch 250 x 75mm (10 x 2in), pouch to loop end 830mm (32.75in). Both relatively simple & effective.
Then, after seeing the ‘King Tut slings’ projects by contributors to the Slinging.org forum, I was inspired to have a go. So thanks to David Morningstar, T. J. Potter, TEG, Hubert, Lakeslinger & others for your guidance.
