Title: Things I've Never Done
Post by Rat Man on Jul 22nd, 2022 at 9:33am
I've never been to a spa.  I'm just not a spa type person.  I've never used a hot tub.  My only opportunity to use one involved sitting in a crowded tub with a bunch of fat drunken people.  No thanks.  I've never used a sauna.  Sweating my arse off while beating myself with Pine branches then diving into ice water holds no appeal for me whatsoever.  I've never snow skied.  We were supposed to learn Cross Country Skiing during Arctic Training in the army but due to a scheduling SAFU it never happened.   Well I've never been to Spain but I kind of like the music.  Sweet ladies are insane there and they sure know how to use it.
So what haven't you done?  Keep it clean please.

you want to try a polish sauna, not a swedish sauna.

You slaver yourself in a mixture of salt and honey - sounds weird I know.
I was sceptical the first time I tried it, but man does it make your skin feel amazing !
In fact you really do feel energised and refreshed in general.
Totally worth it.

Most people stay too long in a sauna and don't drink enough.

Things I haven't done.

Never seen a dolphin.
Spent more time than most on boats in various seas - never once seen a dolphin.
I'm convinced they're a mass hallucination.

Never bungee jumpoed and never will :-)
Likewise parachuting - nope, na-huh, not never ever !

Never seen the northern lights - that's been number 1 on my bucket list for as long as I can remember.

Never eaten snake, quite fancy it, guess best chance of that would be to go to florida.

Never had  a massage.
Just not that keen on other people touching me lol

Never had a tattoo. Just not something I've ever felt I need :-)

Never been scuba diving, I'd definitely be up for it - just never got round to it.
I don't tend to go on holiday to hot places with beaches.
So never had the opportunity.

There's a fair bit of inland diving done in the uk, but it's cold and I'm not a fan of wet wetsuits.

Never been on a large hovercraft, I have driven a single person sport hovercraft - hilarious fun and surprising hard work. You basically 'steer' by throwing your body weight around, the steering wheel does exactly nothing lol
You have to increase the skirts friction to turn, so basically tilt the thing the side you want to turn in..
Good fun, recommended.

Can't think of anything much else - I've done a lot more than most and tend to say 'yes' to most things :-)

I never walk on the moon. I would love to but I think I'd be really scared.
But I don't think to be selected one day even if I wanted to. Too old :(

Moon walking, that'd be fun.

So how far could we sling in 1/6 earth gravity ?
Damn that would be fun !

When they've got quantum tunneling sorted for people, I'd give it a go.
It'd probably be a safer method of teleportation.
But you're not strapping me to the 'lowest quoted' fireworks that NASA uses.

Actually the answer is exactly 6x as far. See sometimes physics is simple  8-)

Well, until you factor in air resistance then all hell breaks loose.

Lots of things come to mind.  But one that makes the top (especially here), I hope to one day meet another slinging.org member in person.  I know if I make it to the International Competition, that will happen.  Or if a competition here in the states or down under happens, maybe...

Not exactly. Because our musculature is designed for Earth gravity. At "The City of Space" of Toulouse (France), elastic bands reproduce the lunar gravity.  :-?  It's fun to walking with this belt.
If you throw too hard, you may leave with your slingstone.  ;D

I agree with you but my English isn't good enough.

Ah, but slinging next to a friend from the forum doesn't require any talking.  If the situation ever happens, I would be happy to sling with you.  :)

I can be very talkative.  :D

I've never parachuted.  It was something I very much wanted to do when I was younger, especially when I was in the army.  Though I was in the 101st Airborne we no longer parachuted by the time I got there... we repelled out of helicopters.  The real airborne training was done with the 82 Airborne at Ft. Bragg, N.C.  So I volunteered to go to jump school at Ft.  Bragg.  It was four weeks long.  They said that I could do it but I'd have to use my own leave time.  A whole year's worth.  That wasn't happening.  I suppose I could still do it now but as an old fart I don't have quite the urge I used to.

Not just air resistance.
The slinger won;t have the same launch 'platform' either.
We're solidly anchored when we sling.
So with 1/6th mass we would be strongly effected - not sure if it would be positive or negative.
And the lack of air resistance applies to the sling and slinger as well as the missile.
Also to the length of sling you could use.
With the right start technique - no reason you couldn't use somethig well in excess of 2 metres.

It would most likely be considerably more than 6x.

Then you start factoring in the actual missile.
You don;t need density - no atmosphere, so nothing to smash out of the way.

You also don't need a glande shape, for the same reason.

It might actually be beneficial to use a seriously low density missile.

The vacumn actually makes a lot more difference than the gravity.

So it's definitely nowhere near as simple as 6x distance :-)
Physics is rarely that simple lol

Never been in a helicopter.

Been in most forms of air transport - but never a 'copter.
