Title: The Acheulean Hand Ax
Post by Gaius Marcellus Nerva on Jan 30th, 2022 at 4:29pm
I was reading a book, Bones of Contention a Creationists view of human fossils, and I came across this very interesting weapon the Acheulean hand ax. It is thrown like a discus and has a range of about 200 ft.

I’m pretty skeptical that hand axes were used as death frisbees, especially connecting it to megafauna kills. It sounds too speculative.

If it's too sharp to use as a hand axe isn't it too sharp to throw?
I think that small ones are probably ok but 4 pounds will cut when thrown

I'd like to see the ones she had made for the experiment.

Clearly they could be easily thrown, or she would not have been able to do the experiment.

If only the two ends were sharpened, it could be gripped along the edges without harm.

It's certainly a new angle :thumb:
