Title: Guess Who Has Omicron
Post by Rat Man on Jan 3rd, 2022 at 3:35pm
Yours truly.  I picked it up on Christmas dinner with my family.  The symptoms are an occasionally sore throat, a relentless hacking cough, sneezing fits, runny nose, and a foggy head.  Imagine the worst cold you ever had in your life, triple it, and you've got Omicron.
I've had all three shots so my chances are pretty good.  I just have to tough it out.

Edit:  just like the say I lost my sense of smell so I can't taste anything.

I know how that feels I had covid at the beginning of November and I still can’t smell at all. Thanksgiving sure was a lot different.

Hope you feel better soon and get your smell back sooner than me ;D

Sorry to hear that man.  As others have, I wish you a speedy recovery.  My brother-in-law just got diagnosed with COVID about a week ago.  Not sure which variant.  My last update was that all his symptoms are pretty much gone at this point.  I don't think he was every very bad.

And sorry to hear that Gaius.  One of the bartenders at my local watering hole said she lost her sense of smell when she had COVID, and most of it has never returned.  Not sure how long it's been for her.

Yeah the aftereffects can be persistent and worse than the initial infection.

There are kits you can get that help get your sense of smell and taste back.

Bought my mum one last year and it definitely helped.

I'm only just getting over a non-covif multi viral infection that's pretty much hit everyone in the area
Damn thing lasts for 5-6 weeks.
Has similar symptoms to covid - but all covid tests negative - but you get your sense of taste back as it starts to die.
Which was a relief over the Christmas break.

But it made you cough until you saw stars and your ribcage hurt.
On the plus side after 5 weeks my stomach muscles are like steel bands.

But glad to get rid of it.
Face masks and coughing up phlegm - bad combination !

:-?   I called my doctor yesterday but the whole medical system is so jammed up that they're not seeing anyone unless they're literally dying.  He prescribed Prednisone, zinc, and a cough syrup for me.  I'm coughing a little less.  This bug will take time to get rid of.  Thanks for the info, c_a.  And thanks for the kind words, guys.  I'm a tough old buzzard and I have no intention of letting this miserable plague win.
In retrospect this could have been avoided.  I could have stayed home from Christmas dinner with my family.  But I miss them and since this pandemic started it was only the second time we got together, the first being Thanksgiving.  I tried to hang tough and stay isolated but I'm only human.  I took a calculated risk and this time it didn't work out.

Heard today an old friend died of covid the week before Christmas.
Had all three jabs, but it looks like she had some underlying medical conditions and went pretty fast.

Fortunately, as you say, you're pretty healthy, add that to the jabs and you should be fine :thumb:

If you do get the loss of taste, alternately sniffing the right essential oils regularly should help.

After effects do vary widely.

Thanks guys.  It's a little over three weeks since I was infected.  I'm about 85% now.  For me Omicron was similar in intensity to a minor flu or a very bad cold.  And though the symptoms were very similar to both it felt exactly like neither.  There was no doubt that I had something new and different.  Unfortunately this is nothing I can describe verbally.
For the past few days I've been walking the dogs twice a day again though I was taking just short, less than two mile walks.  This morning I took our first longer, five mile walk.  It was a beautiful cold, clear morning and it felt good.  It looks like I'm back. And my sense of smell is mostly restored.

3 vaccinations and you got omicron. Life sure is funny. I have not taken any jab, do not social distance, nor disinfect my hands, or  wear masks, or lived my life any differently than before, and have never gotten, what they call covid. What I did do, is turn off the TV. ;D

Um… J? You should probably still wash your hands even if you didn’t do that before.

I don't use that chemical waste they call soap. I stopped doing that in my early teens. Did you ever eye the ingredient list on those bottles? Absolute insanity. Literally toxic waste for all life. In that I would include all synthetic medicines and cosmetic products. Toxic industrial waste. No human being used such things on their skin until a few decades ago. And now it's the norm?  It's all a giant scam.

I understand the sentiment J, but you do know that, for thousands of years, soap was made from pot ash and animal lard… literally the leftover waste from a person’s food and fireplace.  Even Job scraped pot ash on his sores with a broken piece of pottery in the Old Testament.  You don’t have to use modern soaps with detergent and moisturizer, but please… wash your hands.

Three vaccinations and in only three weeks after catching Omicron I am at 100%.  I spent no time in the hospital and remained functional throughout my illness.  I am very grateful that my three vaccinations were available to me.  Omicron won't be the last variant and Covid won't be the last plague.  Some will survive, some won't.

I dont get it how did you decide to use the internet and not soap? most people 20 years ago didnt use it now it is the norm. everything that is needed for you to be able to use the internet produces toxic waste and is the result of some kind of exploitation.

This is why truth is so difficult to find.  Same information available to J and RM… but completely different interpretations of the same data.

In terms of “proof” both of you are trying to do the impossible of proving a negative: “If [I/you] had not gotten the vaccine, then things would have been [worse/better]”

It’s fascinating to watch, but this particular debate is not going to go anywhere logical.

To be fair if the government was mandating I get vaxed 3 times or I lose my job and I was still getting smallpox and giving it to my family anyways and they were blocking all discussion of valid treatments that other countries were openly using to great effect to save people I wouldnt get it either.

The whole situation just reeks of conflict of interest and bad science. Human bodies are the same the world over. If Ivermectin is working  as an early treatment to save large amounts of people in other parts of the world, and we know it and furthermore if theres a near blackout in our mainstream news about it something is obviously going on here.

If you google it you get literally article after article disparaging it from our mainstream news companies pretending like its not working. While its saving lives in other parts of the world by the tens of thousands. Its gross but Americans are only doing a cursory google and stick with what the algorithm has set for them to see, never realizing that google as a big tech company also has bias and sets its algorithm to stick to a narrowly defined narrative as well.

https://ivmmeta.com/

Here's a meta analysis of studies showing the effectiveness of ivermectin. Keep in mind treatment protocols never use just one drug. And while this shows a big success rate for just Ivermectin, when combined with several different drugs the vast majority of deaths couldve been averted if treatment hadnt been essentially banned in favor of vaccines by the CDC and Federal government. One can only assume why. Dont overthink it I dont think it takes a genius to figure out why this backwards approach was chosen.

I mean it's all anecdotal anyway. I've had 3 jabs and no ill effects, nor have I caught covid.

Nobody was saying vaccines guaranteed you wouldn't get infected, nor were they saying that you would definitely get infected without. You gotta discuss the data if you want to get any sort of useful conclusions, but nobody agrees what is believeable data or sources these days anyway.

It's sad but seems to be the case that what you believe is increasingly defined by what tribe you are and then confirmation bias takes care of the rest. I don't exclude myself btw, though I try to fight it.

Anyway, I'm glad you are feeling better RM.

It's easy to stop using what they call soap. Not so easy to stop using the internet. I tried it many times. But I keep falling back. It's an addiction I am not proud of. I am trying get rid of it. Luckily for me, the future will force me out of it whether I want or not. I've already stopped using cellular tech. I no longer have a personal, but a shared computer.

I agree trying to resist tribal blinders seems harder everyday but the good man does and so I try too.

I disagree about infection. The current "protects against hospitalization and death" is a shift in narrative. Originally the headlines and articles were about preventing infection and transmission. As the percentage efficacy headed towards 50% the goalposts shifted.

Regardless if I were in RM's shoes I would certainly choose vaccination and I am glad he's feeling better.

I also agree that I would also have chosen the vaccine were I RM. Shocking I know. It just so happens the data shows for people in his age group with his comorbidities it makes perfect sense.

I always find it funny when people talk about "natural is best" and talk about the evils of the modern world they are very reluctant to give up their clothes, their food, their tools, their glass windows, their etc. etc.

Most people don’t understand just how nasty and cut-throat nature can be… especially the plant world!  One of my favorite examples of this is organic foods.  To be commercially viable, organic crops have to be high in natural toxins and carcinogens to prevent bugs from eating them.  The natural stuff is sometimes worse than the pesticides that you can just wash off.

I don't think people are opposed to pesticides because they can't be washed off.  I think it's because of bee populations being destroyed.

Don’t get me wrong… I think pesticides are used improperly in many cases. My only point is that  the debate about “natural” vs man-made should be more nuanced. Many of the man-made things are simply mimicking what is already found in nature, and what is marketed as “natural” may just be manipulated in a different way… like selective breeding for higher concentrations of naturally occurring toxins.

Completely agree.

And many work more efficiently and effectively than natural counterparts.

Pesticides can be washed off but it's not as easy as many think.  Just washing your produce off with water does absolutely nothing.  Pesticides are made to remain on produce during rain storms.  They are actually quite stubborn.  Some react to acids, some just to bases.  The only way to get most of the pesticides off of your produce is to wash it in a solution of mild dish soap and vinegar.  I've been doing it this way since the eighties.  It might take a little more time but I've eaten just a small fraction of the bug spray as most people have.
