A friend of mine who knew I sling sent me this video of Palestinians slinging tear gas canisters. Pretty interesting seeing the sling's use there in modern times. Also includes a Pirouette figure-8 style you don't see too often.

First of all those guys are champs for slinging those canisters with the gas coming out. Those masks must be for fashion because I know they aren't stopping the gas at all. The one slinging with that huge shield had it down pretty well. He didnt seem to have any issues. Good find!

I absolutely love that pirouette figure-8 style, it looks awesome and I want to try it out. Great find!

   They have pretty good form.  You can build up a resistance to tear gas.  When I took basic training in 1975 the army must have had a surplus of tear gas.  Our Drill Sergeants gassed us almost every day, often several times a day.  At first we'd holler GAS!! as were were taught to so everyone would mask up.  After a few weeks we just ignored it most of the time.

I also disagree that propaganda was achieve.  In this situation, we're not concerned with the slinger's point of view or intentions.  We're simply looking at an impressive sling throw.  It makes no difference who is doing it.

I agree with Joe, it does not matter who was slinging, it was an athletic movement. None of us are concerned with anything else other than the fact that it was an impressive display.  Also, Tint showed the same thing years ago, yes, but the this throw was also impressive. That is all. None of us are concerned about anything else.

Speaking of which… Jaegoor, I think something was lost in translation. You didn’t clarify what you were saying.

If you’re worried about the reputation of the sling when used by protestors… most people still don’t know what slings are. The slings don’t do much harm since they aren’t experienced slingers, they’re using them as more of a statement. They’re going for the David and Goliath imagery. The only damage to the reputation of slings has been in Israel itself, but that’s more of targeting the protesters instead of the weapon itself.

Trajan's column is also propaganda, the video from the Spanish Civil war slingers throwing grenades have not been an issue and there have been no problems discussing it previously. Surely in representing the sling internationally it is possible to discuss all representations of the sling impartially. From the outset, this discussion was flagged as apolitical. We can point to Tint's video, but that was someone experimenting with different throws in a gym. It's very different to see this unusual style being used "in the wild" and so is of some note and is interesting to discuss. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this post.

Verharmlosung ist ebenfalls ein Ziel von diesem Video. Alles nicht so schlimm. Schade das sie es nicht verstehen wollen. Oder können.  Es gibt auch einen Unterschied zwischen Dokumentation und Propaganda. Auch reflektierte Geschichte ist etwas anderes. Zur damaligen Zeit war es Propaganda. Römer waren Meister darin. Sehr gut erkannt. Heute macht es natürlich gar keinen Unterschied. Oh man. Luis trainiert auch in einem Fitness Studio. Gerade weil es Tint in einen sportlichen Kontext setzt, ist sein Video um ein Vielfaches besser. Es geht auch nicht um meine Argumente. Diese interessieren sie gar nicht. Es geht um meine Person. I am one of the biggest proponents of fiery discussions on this forum but theres a way to do it and a way not to. Calling people childish when you disagree with them falls firmly into the "way not to" column. Please feel free to reread the forum rules, specifically the ones on abusive language.

For now let's go ahead and lock this very controversial thread of a man slinging something on a slinging forum. I know that's quite a sensitive subject. Let's give it a few days and then see if we can come back with cooler heads shall we?
