And here's the list in the correct order.  You will receive a sling from the person listed before you, and send a sling to the person listed after you.  The last person listed will send to the first person.  If there are any questions on who is sending to who, just post a reply.  I will also try to keep the list below updated if we need to make any changes to avoid previous SITH pair-ups.

I'm in. Excited to give one of my slings away.

For anyone new who doesn't know what this is:
SITH stands for Sling In The Hat. It is a sling exchange. Just like a Holliday gift exchange but the gifts are all slings.

Anyone can participate, regardless of your craftsmanship level. The spirit of the trade is to share designs and ideas, not emaculate or expensive gifts.

If you can make a sling that you are proud of, then anyone who gets your trade will be happy to receive your sling.

This is my first SITH so if I didn't explain it well enough, I'm sure someone else will.

I guess I should probably send NOOC his 2020 SITH sling (which has been finished for awhile now) before joining the 2021 SITH but Im feeling crazy. Im in!  ;)

Yeah go on then, my record for things sent has improved this year, and if Morphy's going for my longest delayed sith delivery crown - he's got a year or so to go I think - si why not. :-)

Got some interesting toys to send out.

Now I will point out that international postage costs are at an all time high.

So if money's short, avoid tracked and try and keep your total parcel under 100 grams.

How about one month for entries?  That would put us at a close date of 18 December.  I think that will allow a sufficient amount of time for folks who don't check in on the forum very often.

I'll also update the first post with the current list and try to keep it updated.

@SAK_Survival - It's all good man.  Everyone started out from the beginning.

I can only speak personally, but I would seriously doubt I'm unique in this point of view.  In the SITH, it's not so important to send the fanciest and most beautiful sling (not that there's anything wrong with those).  What I like is to get is a sling that's close to what the sender likes to use.  I saw in the Introduction that you've been trying out a few designs.  Whichever one you find yourself liking the best, make one for your SITH recipient and they will enjoy it.  ;)

The sheer variety of slings that get sent is also one of the joys of the sith.

I've had everything from a simple split pouch 3 strand braid made from masons line, all the way up to Tomas amazing parcel, that had a much admired leather catal hyuk coaster an all leather sling and a really decorative leather pouch sling with paracord.

The important thing is to send a sling that you have personally made.

There is no obligation to send anything more than one sling.

Some of us tend to get a bit carried away.
If you received a multi gift package last year, do not feel you have to do the same this year.

It's purely personal choice :-)
The only obligation is a sling you've made yourself.
Please do not feel any pressure to send anything else :-)

I echo the above. I always find it fascinating that such a simple weapon can vary so greatly. The style, the materials (I even have a glow in the dark paracord sling), the methods of construction... I always learn something from a new sling.

Count me in.

   Last year I made something simple for Ryan just to get my feet wet after a long layoff.  I will be more creative this year.  I'm still not sure what I'm doing but it will be different.

Well, I decided to break with tradition and finish mine early this year. Just think… next year some lucky winner could be slinging with the leftover pieces of Morphy’s boot sandals!

Ok, it’s actually made from MY old cowboy boots...  I thoroughly cleaned and oiled the leather, removed the original stitching, and then hand-stitched the original embroidery pattern with a heavier waxed thread that should stand up to a lot of abuse.  Works best with tennis balls, but it’s tough enough to handle jagged rocks.  I took a couple test shots with it and then decided to post an early preview for y’all… because otherwise I’d be too tempted to keep this sling for myself ;D

I'm still trying to figure out basic braiding techniques, let alone risking some invaluable Canadian maple syrup. Some maple sugar may find its way, along with whatever sling I concoct...time will tell!!!  ;)

I know it ruins some of the surprise, but hopefully whoever gets it will enjoy the anticipation instead. Besides, it’s for a greater purpose:
1. I now have to follow through and give the sling up instead of keeping it for myself.
2. I threw this photo up on Instagram, hoping to lure a few new participants into SITH (and maybe sticking around the forum too).
3. I’ve given away basically the same sling every SITH for the past several years, so most people who’ve been paying attention wouldn’t be surprised to get an asymmetric tennis ball sling from me… but I especially wanted some of our newer folks who may be less confident in their sling-making abilities to see how a small change like reclaimed leather or some embroidery thread can completely change an otherwise “normal” design into a one-of-a-kind treasure.

As of this post we've got 22.
So could either go for straight pair exchange, or 1st sends to 2nd sends to thrid etc
which works best for odd numbers.

So using noocs reasoning.
I will say that I'll be sending an engraved cap paul.

disc sling with a disc mould.
hinged glande mould - whatever I get my hands on first, you don't get to pick, lol.

What are everyone's thoughts on the pairing up method?  Stay with the domino method used the last couple years, or break off into actual pairs?  I think pairs is still fine even if there's an odd number.  Just one exchange group will have three people.

I want to send a set of four slings again to some lucky soul. Maybe even five if I find some motivation to do something.

As for the pairing method, I don't really care as long as I get to send my slings to someone!

That’s ONE method.  You could also read chicken bones, count waves on the beach, or bribe a squirrel.  Those methods are all acceptable, and if you don’t know how to do any of those techniques, just send it to my address.

so a couple of tips for sending international parcels.

1) never declare the actual value on the customs form. Most countries will charge import tax on anything much above £10 and they will charge you a 'fee' for the privilege of so doing.  So keep your values UNDER 10 euros/dollars/pounds.
1a) always tick the box for 'gift. There is a higher 'notax' limit on gifts than on commercial packages.

2) describe contents as: childs toy or shephrd sling.
Don't get creative - the last thing you want to do is to get the customs people interested enough to open the parcel. And while I know of no country where slings are illegal, it doesn't hurt to just make sure :-)

3) if you want to pay extra for international tracking - it's usually not that much more (£2 extra in the uk).  DO NOT PAY FOR internationally signed for !
That is a lot more expensive and completely pointless.

We've got two slings going between the uk and australia and one from oz to the states.
So that's going to be close.

I have absolutely no clue where most american states are - so no idea on who's got the longest there.

Vet is Maine, IG is California

lol yeah - found them all but one now, you'd think I'd know the people I've actually sent stuff to - but nope.
Plus tend to save addresses under actual names, not usernames - I mainly remember usernames lol

well you've seen the video - unless I can get a really compact lightweight tripod - no way to improve on the handheld quality.

But after a lot of being chewed, thrown, bounced off corrugated metal - fun because you never know which direction they will richocet at.
I still have them both and they currently look like this.
A little worn and muddy, but still pretty much undamaged.

No, I wish.  :)

It was apparently made by a guy in Pakistan or Nepal or some other country that I cant remember. I got it probably 12 years ago or so. It was made by a guy that makes them for the locals for daily use and then sells extras online. I love large knives but rarely use them once I buy them so occasionally give them away when it seems appropriate.

It's got a much larger handle than the typical nepalise kurkris.
On account the Gurkhas tend towards small with small hands.
Super tough bastards, hard as nails, just small :-)

Its a massive blade as NOOC can attest and has an affinity for cutting whoever owns it.  ;)

Tis but a flesh wound.   Very sharp… so sharp that no single piece of upholstery-grade leather (or the thumb placed outside of it) can stop it 🤣

The handle is a nice size for my hand, and once it gets a kydex sheath it’ll be a really great chopper!

so what's the extra bit of cord for on the release cord.

I like the thinner cord for release, makes sense. Only reason I can think of for the extra bit would be to slow it down.
But I can see it being really annoying as well.

I'm not certain.  My first thought is that because of the very thin release cord, extra cordage has been left so the receiving slinger can make adjustments if desired (change the knot, convert it to a tab, etc.).

On that note, I am probably going to adjust it.  The release knot isn't quite where I like it to be with the grip I normally use.  But it will be very simple to move it.

Maybe Gaius can chime in if there is another reason for the longer cord.

Yes I left a little for adjustment. On the one I have that is just like it I cut it almost all the way off. It’s one of my experimental designs, not the prettiest looking, but it performs well. And the colors don’t match at all…

Also, "experimental" doesn't mean it's not a fully functional sling, just that the maker might be looking for ways to improve it.  I know I've made very few slings (probably none) that I determined could not be improved in any way.  I think every sling I make is an experiment, at least to some extent.  Whether it's testing a new braid, a new pouch, different cordage, etc.

It’s a fully functional sling and it does work perfect, I really like the design of it and wanted to know what other slingers thought of it. It is only experimental in the way that the entire idea of it is different than any other sling that I’ve ever made and seen.

Also I improved the design a little when I made joe’s compared to the original

I think ive actually seen several slings like this before. Its always good to try new things. I think, in all honesty, Ive yet to make a sling that was entirely optimized. Everything is experimental until you decide its finished and Ive just never quite hit that point yet. Theres always that nagging feeling that something could be just a little better.  ;)  I totally get the mindset Gaius.

The closest place to me that might have similar materials is 45 minutes away from me. I never make special trips to get slinging supplies. Especially to only make one sling. The only thing that I’d even change is have orange microcord instead of black.

Look what I got! The seatbelt slings look simple but they are well made (and stylish). Clearly the maker has some experience crafting and using these. The braided sling looks like a Rockman. Three slings! Thanks vetryan15!

MikeG, this is your 1st one, you participated in. YES, its about  the person who recieved it, being happy. No one cares if its experimental, your attitude will get u in trouble here, possibly banned.

Jaegoor, u havent participated in 2 years, what is your reason to come in and stir up more trouble? For an old man, you  have been acting a lot like a child recently, and causimg drama. Grow up. We allow beginners in on this. It is what it is. I would expect more from u, but your attitude has really soured alot of pwople on this forum. I am getting tired pf having to play the adult here. You, and the kids and teenagers, are welcome to join the SITH.

I don't thing you understand what the SITH is about.  It meant to see what other members on this forum are making and slinging with.  It's not a contest to make the best and most efficient sling.  Whether the maker of the sling spent 5 minutes or 5 days is irrelevant.

Ist Sith ein Wettbewerb? Nein. Habe ich auch nie so verstanden. Es gibt wirklich eine Menge die sich viel Mühe geben. Andere tun das offensichtlich nicht. Ich möchte das was mir jemand schickt auch benutzen . Bei der gezeigten Sling hätte ich persönlich große Sicherheits bedenken. Darf man das sagen? Ist das beleidigend? Ja man sollte es unbedingt sagen. Nichts ist schrecklicher als totes Lob. Ist es beleidigend? Nein . Es ist nicht beleidigend. Denn ich beurteile einen Gegenstand. Ich verurteile nicht denn Menschen der es machte. Das ist etwas was sie mir unterstellen. Übrigens kann man eine Unterstellung ebenfalls als Beleidigung verstehen. Verstößt dies gegen regeln des Forum?
Etwas ist natürlich möglich. Das ich ihre Einstellung zur Sith nicht verstehe und auch nicht teile. Was für mich gilt, gilt dann auch für sie. Sie verstehen meine Einstellung ebenfalls nicht.
Kann ich das alles was ich sage beurteilen? Ja. Das kann ich. Ich reflektierte mich selbst. Und ich verfüge über genug Erfahrung und Fähigkeiten um meiner Aussage Gewicht zu verleihen.
Ihre Urteil über mich haben sie bereits gefällt.
Ich werde die Kinder fragen ob sie zukünftig teilnehmen wollen. Ich kann es mir nicht vorstellen. Schließlich werden sie von einem nicht erwachsenen alten Mann trainiert, der immer nur Ärger macht. ::) ;D ;) :P 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

MikeG, sometimes constructive criticism is fine but all too often your criticisms just start fights. Jaegoor the same goes with you. Ask yourselves if what your saying is really needed in a thread like this before you bother posting. It wasnt necessary in the Palestinian thread and it's not here either.

For those who dont understand the concept of the SITH and im specifically talking about you two here, its to receive slings from members around the world. THATS IT. There is no other reason. Its not about sending the best slings, its not about telling them why their sling is not good enough or how it could be better and frankly, no one here seems to have a hard time understanding this but you two.

You dont need to voice every criticism that comes into your head.

People realize their slings can be better. Ive seen many members send what might be termed less than ideal slings to others and then as time goes by their skill level naturally progresses.

Mike, I honestly get the sense that your original intent wasnt to be rude. I think you are coming off as rude now but there may be a language issue here and an age issue.

Thats why Im taking the time to tell you this. So please hear me when I say these people that sent bad slings and got better with time did not need MikeG, Morphy or Jaegoor to criticize their sling for them to get better. It happened naturally with time and practice. Just as it always does.

People are not stupid. They dont look at their slings and say "Hey this is the greatest sling ever". But its a process. And add to that we all have limited time to do things so not every sling we make is going to be amazing.

Just relax man. Relax and let people send what they send. If they want to get better they will. If not or they dont have time to send really intricate stuff thats totally ok as well! SITHmas is a happy time of year. Lets keep this thread happy. Thanks.

Are you implying that my sling is bad? I didn’t make my sling to look pretty. I made it because of how the sling works, and I wanted to share that with more slingers, so I decided to participate in the SITH.

Thats not a bad thing to do, but did you do it as well as possible ? If you did, i cant say anything negative about you

When I made it I improved the design as much as possible that I could think of without changing the design too much. I suppose I could have gotten some orange microcord to use instead of black but I didn’t really need to go to town for anything and I wanted to send the sling as soon as possible.

Mike, I don’t know what everyone else thinks.  I’m just one person on this forum, but in my opinion, of course you are welcome here no matter your age.  There is nothing wrong with being young, and you should enjoy it. It's a hand forged bottle opener! But it could probably be used as a flint striker as well. I used to make full hand handle ones but evidently the keychain ones were the ones everyone liked and I was alone in liking the full size.

Nooc slings are fantastic with tennis balls . One solid full proof design I’m definitely behind. Nice limited edition one with that stitching!!

Obviously I lucked out and got Hubert and this beauty is what he sent me.  There was a lot of trouble with shipping and it ended up going back to him at least once in the process.

Ive said for years now that Hubert is the best slingmaker out there and after recieving this and looking at the beauty and quality I am even more certain of that statement.

Well I've neither sent or received one yet - so, you know, it's still early days :-)

And yeah, Uwe/Hubert is, in my opinion the worlds best braided sling maker.
Jaegoor would probably argue, but then, is there anything he won't argue about :-)

Received a lovely package of 3 slings from Ratman today. They look great as far as I know this 3 arm asymmetric is a totally original design that I can't wait to try. I'm also looking forwards to trying the twin pouch sling!

    As long as your projectiles are similar in size and weight the double barrel sling will give you a reasonably tight shot group.  You can also use both pouches as one to throw larger projectiles like a baseball, snowball, etc..
