We all know of Strabo's account of Balearic slingers using three lengths of sling, but short, medium, and long means something different to all of us.
What three lengths would you chose?

Short: Anything shorter than my arm

Long: Hand to opposite shoulder or longer

Medium: Everything in between

-short:  finger to elbow
-medium: finger to biceps
-long:  finger to shoulder or longer

Same for me. It's funny that we all naturally went to using our own bodies for measuring. I would guess it was exactly the same back then. If they didn't make their own, they could probably get them ordered to the size they preferred.

short - thumb-tip to mid-bicep
med - thumb-tip to shoulder socket
long - thumb-tip to sternum

For myself, probably:
short - thumb-tip to shoulder
med - thumb-tip to sternum
long - thumb-tip to opposite shoulder

Medium:  28" to 38"
Long:  38" +
   I have no use for short slings.  I'm not saying they're useless.  This is just my personal preference. 

Same as morphy. I like to stick with just one sling though, as that is my edc, a medium length

My two favourites are a 24" and a 30" both made from braided paracord, I feel as the sling gets shorter having thicker cords allows me to throw with more force however as the sling gets longer and past 30" I feel more accurate with thinner singular strands of paracord. This is just my experience though

Suppose I should put mine too...

Short: ~ 16-18" base of finger to bicep - for tight spaces and formations. Generally prefers bigger stones.

Medium: ~ 25" base of finger to shoulder - general slinging

Long: ~ 30" base of finger to sternum - for long range

If there was a fourth, it would be a 42" or longer sling, purely for big stones at closer ranges to generate maximum impact.

Short: 20-22”

Medium: 24-28”

Long: 30-32”

I’m not too adventurous with sling lengths. Around 28” puts it around as long as my arm, and I usually prefer that 24 to 28 inch range.

S: 26''
M: 33''
L: 45''

I don't use short slings much.  But would probably go with something in the 22" - 24" range.

For medium I would go with 29".

And long, 34" - 35"

24inch for short
32 for normal/medium
And around 44-50 for the long.
Although I'd have to find it and measure it to be certain.

The long one is also made from 2mm masons cord, while the other two are 3mm paracord.

With that kind of length and usually using smaller stones, air resistance is a definite factor.

And while I do generally 'measure' using bits of my body, that's how long they pretty much always come out.

I’ve noticed that there seems to be a preference for shorter slings with younger slingers and longer slings for older slingers, which makes sense.

i think im the youngest slinger here and I use some of the shortest slings on the forum, it seems like you are right

It would seem so.

But my lenghts differ by a lot depending on what am I doing with the sling.

My short sling is 18-20" for accuracy at short range with heavy stones.

Medium sling right now is 30", great for getting both range and accuracy.

And the long one has 40" of lenght, this one is great for getting distance while still retaining some accuracy at those ranges.
