Title: If you could travel back in time and undo something that you did
Post by Lightning Jack on Oct 24th, 2021 at 2:06pm
If you could travel back in time and undo something/change something/do something differently in your life, what would it be?

For me it would be taking a different route so I wouldn’t have gotten in a bad car accident a month ago.

I would arrive 5 mins early to a meeting with an old, slightly kooky friend and stop him from being murdered by Libyan terrorists.

morphy has a tendensy to just make stuff up - so this one ?
dunno 50:50 maybe lol

And I'll go with jack on the take a different route to avoid an rta.

Also can I go back 2 weeks and undo the mistake I made not picking the right numbers on the 189 million pound euro lottery.
And instead pick the right numbers :-)

He didn’t make that up, it’s from the movie “Back to the Future”
Picking the right numbers on the lottery is a good one too.

One of the best 80s and maybe one of the best movies in general ever made.

The third one is my favorite. I'd rather have the time travelling flying train than the time travelling car.

I love the third one as well but I think we are in the minority.

I would go back and redo my life without drugs or alcohol.

Real answer to this question...

I would go back in time and let my younger self know what was causing the majority of my depression and how to fix it. My life would be drastically different.

I wouldn't change anything. I'm (mostly) healthy, married to the love of my life, have completed a degree in nursing and, after lots of anguish, know myself. I wouldn't be who I am without all the mistakes and problems and wrong turns. To change my past would be to change me now and, although I'm not perfect by a long way, I am content in being myself.

There's maybe three points in my life I'd like to have made a different decision.

There are most likely thousands where I should have done something different.

But probably only three that could have made a significant difference, not necessarily better or worse, just different.
Or maybe not. I'll never know.

What keeps me going is the belief that in a quantum universe all the decisions I did not make were made by a slightly different me.

And if I could give the younger me a single piece of advice it would be.
Buy Microsoft stock as soon as you can.
As much as you can.

I believe a single share bought at the original floatation, would by now have made me a multi millionaire.

Likewise Amazon shares.

Apple would be similar, but you must have some standards and I'm not greedy. :-)

I probably would not have posted so much on the covid related threads. I do sort of regret that. I stand by what I said but its so intrinsically political now in a way that cant really be argued.

I suppose you could say that all political threads are like that but with this one it feels a bit different. Not just pointless but really pointless.

Another thing I was thinking was go back in time and undo watching all the greatest movies and songs youve heard and then rewatch and listen to them.

Only thing is sometimes these things are wrapped up with other nostalgic events that you probably wouldnt want to forget. Still theres some albums I would kill to hear again for the first time like Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness

With that though, sometimes I think we have to be in a certain place, a certain time, a certain state of mind to hear an album for the first time. Some of Coil's best songs I heard in the Autumn and it truly adds another level to them.

Oh dont I know it man. I couldnt agree more. I got hooked on a weird Indie chick rock band almost 15 years ago when a good friend of mind popped the cd in my cd player on the way to work. A 40 min drive through the mountains each way. I listened to that album so much it reminds me of desert and mountains and will always be a favorite of mine because of it.

There was a BBC Canada show called "being erica" I watched last year or so. It was built on this sort of premise, main character gets a chance to time travel back and face each of her regrets. Surprisingly solid show.

If I had a do-over, knowing what I know now, I'd change my undergraduate to a more useful degree. But I am where I am. "You do what you do and you pay for your sin/ and there's no such thing as what might of been/ It's a waste of time/ drive you out of your mind"

I'd like to undo something I didn't do.  As I've mentioned many times, in the mid seventies I was stationed in Seoul, Korea.  Back then Hyundai was a tiny company.  They produced a very small car that ran on LP gas called a Hyundai Pony.  As far as I know they didn't export anywhere but if they did it certainly wasn't to America.  I would love to go back through the Time Tunnel and spend every penny I could beg, steal, or borrow on Hyundai stock.  I would be a very rich man today.
