Title: Ireland on the line!
Post by marcinfromearth on Jul 12th, 2021 at 1:03pm
Hello everyone.
Polish man slinging in Ireland. I was gifted first sling about 5 years ago by a friend from Guam and slinging slowly found a way into my life - from nearly killing my newborn with first tries to actual target practice  8-)
I currently look into finally making some proper natural cord strings after making few with paracord to sling tennis balls. I think I crave the classic design and look of slings, paracord works great but it just doestn have the feel...
Up until recently it was all about just picking up stones at the beach and hurling them into distance, now its more about accuracy and actual control.
So there - my lengthly hello :)
I look forward to reading through the forums - if you can suggest any good reads, especially on classic sling design and historical sling making techniques please mention them in the comments.  :)

Welcome from Texas!

Balearics are fun to make and use and are sort of a perennial favorite around here. Apaches are also ime very fun to use and great for accuracy. We should have tutorials on both designs.

Heya! Another Australian welcoming you here!.

You cant just hint at nearly killing you kid without telling the story! Please tell... (glad theyre ok!).

It reminds me of the first time i got my brand new custom bow made by Nick Lintern from Norseman Bows (absolute work of art). I was standing there with my wife and two daughters and God knows why but I fired straight up without thinking - then tried to huddle my family under me to take the arrow without them getting hurt. Absolutely stupid and will never happen again, I still cant understand what took over me...

Greetings from the great north.

And I agree with the above. Can't just drop something like that and not specify further.
I once slung in an suburban backyard, accidentality threw a stone into my parents house where it narrowly didn't destroy an expensive lamp. Wasn't the first time I had destroyed that lamp so my father MAY have killed me for that.  :P
