Title: Wooden sling pouch

Here I read about it.  Anyone wants to experiment?

what exactly is decreasing to 2 thongs?
what is hemispheroidical shape? half of biconical?
what is a mounted ring on the right column?

P.S: does the source has a source we can look into?

the leather pouch doesnt seem hemispherical when it's open, could be it.
a wood pouch thing is just strange

I think your leather pouch is a good approximation, a somewhat oval middle section that tapers to ''two thongs'' and then cords
The wood pouch also doesn't make sense to me. I want my pouch section to be similar in stiffness to the cords. I don't have a source for the source.

With the price of lumber in the US these days, I don't know if I could afford to experiment too much. :-/

I'm wondering if 2 or 3 slabs hinged together would do the trick.  You'd have to be careful with the follow-through, though, because I can imagine whacking yourself on the back of the neck with even a small block of wood.  Youch!

Cool find J!

The mention of thongs is likely just referring to the cords and not the pouch itself.  The hemispheroidal shape should be half of an elongated sphere.  So yeah Sarosh, I think the pouch in the video you posted could be similar.  Although a wooden one obviously wouldn't bend around the stone.

The thought of a non-bending pouch reminds me of the last sling I made for the trash sling challenge (https://youtu.be/dXSQnTlheCg).  It was cut from the top of a bottle.  The sling didn't have the smoothest feel because of its overall construction, but the pouch release itself did feel clean.

I'll see if I can find a piece of wood (and some time) to shape it down.

Just get yourself a tree branch and a whittling kit.  :)

I knew you would try it out Joe, that's why I made this thread

Translations can be finicky. What came out as "wood" might have started off being closer to "plant material" which wouldn't be surprising at all. I can't imagine a wooden pouch would be much good. I'm not doubting necessarily that someone tried it but I can't see it being a widespread thing. Could it mean bark?

I can see a wood pouch working but it wouldn't be better than a flexible pouch.  Unless the projectile was the exact same size and shape as the pouch it would certainly roll around inside.

How about an arrangement like on a swing set but with a hole drilled into the center of the board to make a nice seat for the stone?

"wool" would make more sense here.

That is pretty much what I was thinking.  Start with a flat piece of wood.  Cut it into an oval or biconical shape.  Then carve out a "bowl" for the projectile to sit in.

This can cause a problem though.  And this is something I ran into with the trash sling I linked in my previous comment.  When I initially made the pouch, I just punched one hole on each side of it, fed the cord through, and tied a knot.  This was very unstable.  Once there was any weight in the pouch, it tended to tip over.  The projectile would roll out because the center of gravity was too high.  I corrected this by having two point of connection on each side of the pouch.  I mention this in the video as well.
