Title: 2021 Hurricane Seeason
Post by Rat Man on Jun 6th, 2021 at 9:16am
NOAA predicts an active 2021 Hurricane season, though not as bad as last year's record breaker.
https://www.noaa.gov/media-release/noaa-predicts-another-active-atlantic-hurricane-season#:~:text=%28NOAA%29%20For%202021%2C%20a%20likely%20range%20of%2013,NOAA%20provides%20these%20ranges%20with%20a%2070%25%20confidence.

Here in New Jersey last year we had an unprecedented number of tropical storms.  Usually one is a big deal here.  Last year I think we got seven in a row.  I lost count.  This was actually a good thing because it saved us from a drought.
Isaias was the only one that actually got scary.  For a few moments it looked like Armageddon outside.  Afterward we had a few trees broken down and broken branches all over the place but it wasn't that bad.  My yard and my neighbors' are very woodsy so anytime there's a lot of wind, falling trees are a big concern.

Lots of rain here lately but I quite enjoy it. So long as Im not out in it I say bring on the rain, thunder and lightning.

One of the side benefits of thunder especially is pushing my big wimp of a jack russell terrier under my blanket to hang out.

I've found that when I'm renting my home rather than owning it I enjoy violent weather a lot more.

RM, can you please just send them to the West coast please? WA through NM are in severe drought.  Stop being selfish and share your rain!

I wish I could.  Your drought is nasty approaching scary.  The most immediate effect will be an increase in food prices across the board for the whole country.  If it continues millions may have to relocate.  Hopefully it won't come to that.  I would do a rain dance for you but the last (and only) time I did one it went very wrong.

Elsa is a hurricane already.  She's at 995 mb.  IMO the pressure is the most important stat to watch.

Cuba busted up Elsa pretty good. Hopefully she won't do much damage.

Elsa rolls over New Jersey tonight.  We're under a flash flood watch as is probably the rest of the east coast.  This time of year a tropical storm can sometimes be beneficial, bringing much needed rain.  Last year an unprecedented seven consecutive tropical storms saved us from a drought. As long as you don't wash my crops away, come on Elsa!

We got drenched by Elsa.  It looks like we got about seven inches of rain.  I'll know for sure shortly when I go outside and check the rain gauge.  That's a lot of rain in one night for this area.  We almost always need rain this time of year so Elsa was a good thing.  There was some wind but it wasn't strong enough to worry about.  Some local areas probably flooded.  We're not prone to flooding here.

Edit: By my gauge we got four inches which is still a lot for one night around here.

The tropics have been eerily quiet.  Too quiet.  This makes me very suspicious like when one of my Huskies is being quiet and good.  Look for something big to happen in the next couple of weeks like and Andrew type hurricane buzzing across the Atlantic.

In my opinion Grace is one to watch out for.  If she follows right on Fred's heals our eastern Gulf coast could be in for a real drenching.

Henri is supposed to pass by New Jersey some time Saturday morning.  Though he's predicted to be a near miss any time a hurricane gets this close I keep a good eye on it.

My grandparents live in Cape May, about  5 miles from the cape may lewis ferry. I will be watching the storm, and keeping tabs on them. Most of my family is in NJ, within a 5 mile radius of where they grew up. Its usually an hour and 15 minutes drive.  So if anything happens. I knkw they will be taken care of

Here in South Jersey we got about 2 1/2 inches of rain the night before last and another 2 inches last night.  There was no wind to speak of.  So at least here Henri was a good thing.  Go a little farther north and you get a different story though.

Tropical Depression 9 is blowing up in the Caribbean and bears watching.  Though it's very early to say with any certainty it is predicted to reach our central Gulf coast maybe mid week next week.

Ida, or Katrina II.  I understand that New Orleans has a  great culture, food, music, etc.  but if I lived there I'd move.  The place isn't safe.

My sister Donna lives on the Florida Panhandle in Navarre, near Pensacola.   Ida will certainly be rattling her windows.

The dregs of Hurricane Ida are passing just to my west.  I'm in South Jersey just a little east of Philadelphia.  Pennsylvania is getting pounded but we've gotten just a few drops so far.  We're supposed to get something tonight.

I believe our next big threat will be from TS Larry.  He's just barely off of Africa but already formed with a visible eye.  This is one to watch.

The remains of Ida nailed us pretty good last night.  There were tornadoes all over the area and much flooding also.  Locally some houses were flattened by tornadoes. I faired pretty well right here.  I haven't been outside yet but as far as I can see there was no damage to my property.  I don't know how much rain we got because my makeshift gauge only goes up to five inches and it was overflowing this morning.
On the heels of Ida it's wonderfully cool and clear here this morning.  It went down to 55 Fahrenheit last night.  This time of year I'll gladly take that.

Yeh. My parents are without power in deptford. Tornado hit there.  Mullica hill had. A tornado. Tons of damage there. Mantua had a tornado. Lots of storm damage from what i have been told. My best friend works for DOT, up in central NJ, rt295, amd rt1, completely under water he sent me pics. Whole sections of the highway both ways filled. Some towns look like Venice italy with the roads nothing but water, and needing boats. Its crazy.

The long range forecast has Hurricane Larry turning out into the Atlantic, thankfully.  Just the same, I'm keeping an eye on him.  He's supposed to kick up big surf all over the Atlantic and eventually head toward England.

When I was a kid hurricane predicting was hit or miss at best.  Over the past few years I'm amazed and impressed at how accurate it's become.
