Using overshoulder style, throwing straight sticks or cork stoppers you can some times experience the projectile not going the path of a parabola but rather rising as it hurtles forward.
This is due to the Magnus Effect (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnus_effect) which teaches that rotating cylinders in wind generates force. I have observed it quite often and it is easy to make happen. |

yep - also why tennis balls and golf balls move around in air.
The more spin the more movement. The really hard part is throwing something without spin :-) |

You can have a lot of fun with Magnus if you do it on purpose!

LOL! What did that thing weigh!? 5 grams?
It looked like it just floated away. ;D |

It was an Easter egg, and 5g is a good guess! I don’t remember the exact weight but it wasn’t more than 7g ;D
I used a sling loaded with an extra 30g of weight in the pouch so I could feel a little weight behind the throw. Easter eggs are good ammunition for when you’re trying to learn to control wrist orientation and spin direction. |

I used to use concrete spheres and it was always fun watching them fly out then arc upwards and fall down. Controlling spin with the sling leads to a lot of potential trick shots as well.

This could be a way get good distances from your throws to. Probably won’t beat lead glands though
