I would like to know what the best sling you have ever made is. Please send a picture and say what you have used.

Ill start by showing my best sling.
It is a 4 strand braid paracord sling, with 2 finger loops, a whip cracker and a rockman pouch.

I've made thousands of slings and many were experimental designs.  My side by side double barrel sling could be one of my best I guess.

The first one is my woolen apache sling. It's probably the best looking sling I've made and feels great too. It's not actually the most difficult or time consuming sling I've made, and is easier than you'd think to make.

Second one is one that I use a lot, It's pretty plain as a balearic compared to others I've made, but something about it is just right. Feels great to throw with, very comfortable, just the right amount of stiffness for me, and will handle a huge range of ammo sizes successfully with about as good accuracy as you will get. It's hemp fibre with synthetic hemp fibre in the tail.

Third up is a recent invention I've made. I used it enough now and I can say it has excellent performance, great pouch safety and ok twist resist with big rocks and very light/clean release on small angular ammo. This is probably my top performing compact sling.

This is my best in terms of usability, portability, and durability. It's essentially a modified Peruvian (huaraca) design made of nylon mason line.

In terms of beauty, these others are made of acrylic yarn, colored craft cotton string, and 95# paracord.

I dont have a picture off hand but if we are talking about in terms of usability it would be a simple paracord and leather apache with my patented tab. Works for me!

well slings - to me - are pouches with sets of replaceable cords.

So the best pouch I use and make is the cap paul rivited design.

I can;t narrow it down to an individual sling as I change cord lengths to suit what type of slinging I intend to do.

This pouch gets a lot of use :-)

These two are my best so far in functionality and looks. The flat pouch is my favorite for all factors so far though.

My 18" Balearic target sling.
It's difficult to keep the braid thickness completely consistent when working with loose fibre, so I was rather pleased with how it turned out.

...and next to these beauties I post my very first sling :D Cheap "paracord" I got from a supermarket and a slingshot pouch. No really a SLINGSHOT pouch. It's one of the ugliest slings in existence, especially nowadays as it's far grimier than this rather nice clean photo. As well as dirt it has some roughed up superglue on it to help protect the release cord which makes it look partly melted.

So how could this possibly be the best? I don't know. Somehow, by absolute sheer luck, I made almost the perfect length sling, with just the right weight and the pouch works surprisingly well for a flat piece of cheap faux leather. It slings well, it'll survive the apocalypse and it's just so darn comfy to use. I need to bust it out again sometime; get back to my humble beginnings and stop faffing with this woven pouch nonsense.

For me that would be my rockman sling and my short 18" balearic. Those two work and feel so nice.

I think I am working on my new best aling right now. I got it finished enough to do some test throws. Hit my bulls eye every time except my third shot was an inch high. My "bulls eye" is a little paint spot on my house's foundation that is about an inch in diameter. For the record. It is much more accurate than my flat pouch sling pictured above. Made of jute with a 5 strand braid and a rockman style pouch. I'll post pictures after I burn off the fray and add my wax

I made a couple Balearics I really like. The pouch on this one is covered with a thin hemp braid instead of leather.

Leater slings are easy to make, but braided slings are much better in my opinion.

The hemp braid won't last near as long, but easy to replace  ;)

I decided to try an all jute sling. With the exception of my leather wrapped finger loop. This is my first time using the 5 strand flat "sling braid" and I gotta say I see why you guys love it. When I weaved my pouch I put more cord strands on the outer most weft for each side, then the mid weft is a strand narrower, and the inner most weft is only one strand thick. How well it made the pouch overlap, and cradle the ammo made me skip my leather wrap on the pouch. The pouch contors are perfect IMO. I also went more basic on the release knot end. Typically I make it easy to grip from multiple points, to accomodate different hands/grips, but I made this one only for me and my grip. It is also one of my shortest slings at only 26" so the accuracy is on point. I hit my bulls eye three times in a row on my first test throws. Which for me is an accomplishment. I also added the little red whipping knots near the pouch to make it easy to see the pouch alignment. This one gives me about 3 new sling ideas to try too. So we will see haha. I also realized that for my grip I need my release end to be about half an inch longer from the edge of the pouch to the knot than from the edge of the pouch to the bottom of my finger loop. It makes everything center perfect when held ready.

I have had a similar experience with jute, yet it was a jute hemp mix, so I figured maybe the differences in strength and stiffness made the jute wear faster. This type of braid seems likely to make the rub wear happen slower. I gave it a healthy dose of my sling wax too. I will keep posted as to how it holds up. As far as how it feels in use, and accuracy, it is my best yet.

If you look close at the loose ends of the release cord in the first picture, you can see one strand is blackend at the tio. I was showing my brother how my wax not only conditions the rope but makes a smoke free slow burning wick out of the ends. Works great for starting my charcoal lol

A sling that I like.  It is a replica of a historical sling.  It comes from the Bronze Age.  And it still holds many secrets

Cortaillod ? It looks cool, but the cords seem very thin and look like they wont be able to  shoot a stone that is bigger than a golf ball. But it still looks great, like almost everything you do.

Yes that surprised me too.  But stones up to a maximum of 100g are possible.  Amazing too.  The small sling now has 10,000 wefts on the linen fiber.

I'm not sure.  As of this point I would probably say this one.  There is a caveat though.  I'm not really sure how it threw.  I used it for literally just two ice balls to make sure it didn't fall apart, then it got packaged up and went to hubert.

It was made of hemp and waxed linen.

Beautiful Joe. I like both hemp and waxed linen for cordage when I can find the good stuff. Damn everyone wants that quality hemp these days. If not always for the same reasons.

The color combo is great as is the pouch. Ever think about making one for yourself?

Ha!  Some day I'll hang on to one.  The last two I made went out.  The one I'm working on right now (and taking way too long, sorry Duckhands ) will be going out too.  It's all good though.  I like making slings to give away.

Most of the cordage I get I just pick up on Etsy.  Sometimes there are deals, sometimes not.  But there's usually a big selection.  Especially if you're looking for colored cordage.

This is my favorite design layout at the moment.
It's nothing spectacular in terms of skill to build or in beauty
This one happens to be made from gutted paracord. It's not as heavy as it looks, about 38 grams.
It's as long as my arm,  symmetrical in nature, flat, with smooth release cord and a synching wrist loop
I utilize the full fist grip, with both cords pinched together. This provides a very good grip and allows me
to use such a long split securely, thus I can use small and very big stones.
It's silent, due to the lack of a whip, no high pitch swishing sound either
