Title: Simple question about practice ammo making. Post by Duckhands on Mar 16th, 2021 at 9:14am
What are the best, (in your opinions) air dry materials for making sturdy dense practice ammo? I have heard to use quick dry cement, and looked at some air dry terracotta clay, but am not familiar with either, or other potential ammos, excluding rocks obviously.

Concrete was an old favorite of mine. Works excellent and makes extremely accurate ammo. Pretty dense and quite strong when made right. (Crap when made wrong) .
Air dry clay is another common one used. Clay for me is a last resort. I like it but its not as dense as I would like. |

You should have posted this one Jaegoor. :)
This is a slightly different route. The tutorial part starts around 2:45. https://youtu.be/5nQQk8meHXE I finally remembered to order a bunch of balloons. So I'll be making a couple dozen rusty balls as soon as they arrive. |

Oh, very nice. Thanks fellas I might have to try all of the above, as I can afford material. I am thinking about getting some 2.5" silicone ice ball molds, as well as some nfl style football shaped ones for cement, and other materials. I am surely wanting to make some of the rusty balls also

Ice balls are fantastic. Was it me that converted you Joe? I don't remember now but I've converted a fair few people to the way of the ice ball :D

Totally. You planted that seed shortly after I joined the forum. I've gone that way and never looked back. :D |

Ha! Good! I have a new toy turning up sometime soon that I think should be good for a shotgun sling :D
One of these: https://www.prisma.fi/fi/prisma/plastex-jaapalapullo 17 at a time! Not that big and not full balls but that's why I think it will be good for a shotgun sling. |

Cool! Keep me posted on how it works.
I have a couple cheap plastic molds that make small ice balls. Those are the ones I've used in all my shotgun sling videos. They do work well. Just not a lot of distance because the mass of each ball is very low. |
