Title: will there be an internatinal in 2021 ?
Post by Curious Aardvark on Jan 11th, 2021 at 7:36am
Honestly I can't see it happening.

the corona virus is still on the up, mainly due to people being arseholes and ignoring any kind of sensible behaviour.
In the uk we now have refrigerated tents where bodies are being stored because the morgues at the hospitals are full.

So come march - despite the vaccines - things will actually be worse in march than they are now.

I would not have been able to afford to go to guam for the 500 year 'being invaded by the spanish' celebrations, but I probably could have afforded mallorca this year.

I honestly don't know if guam are going ahead with the celebrations or not. have to get hold of Roman and find out.

They haven't been hit hard on the island, compared to elsewhere - but the large us troop contingent have made sure it still gets spread around.

Haven't heard anything from pep yet - but can't believe they'd go ahead with it in march.

Some kind of virtual competition is very much in order I feel.
Thoughts and ideas on how to do this please :-)

Have you received a whatsapp message from Pep? On checking it appears you are not on the Fona International whatsapp group which Pep must have gone off when sending these preliminary messages out. I can ask Pep to add you to it if you like? I don't seem to have rights to do this.

1st March will not go ahead, but they are looking to do it later in the year with options of June (6th or 13th), September(19th or 26th) and October (17th or 24th). Apparently October is the most popular option so far. I presume when they pick a date they will email out full details.

uncut video of 30 shots, everybody at the same distance 20 or 30m, any target but a good backstop preferably cliff or wall. The winner is the one with the smallest spread.
But yes who is going to watch every video of hundreds of people and analyse them?

Another modified version is 30 shots uncut, 20 or 30m, 10cm paper target for reference, ammo is tennis balls, the one whose biggest miss is the smallest distance from the target is the winner. A little easier to analyse.

in both cases there need to be reference points(e.g. 2 paper circles 1-3m apart) on the backstop to have a pixel to meters calibration.

I'm thinking October would be best. I can't see June happening. It's really not nearly as bad over here as other places but it's far from good and getting worse.

I'm with Sarosh. Uncut video (could be sped up in sections, like reloading or walking) showing a measuring tape of the distance and targets.

Next, assign groups of 3 or 4 to watch each other's entries and get a thumbs up if it is acceptable.  The reason for the 3 or 4 people, would just to get multiple verifications that the entry meets parameters and also ease suspicion of anyone cheating (much easier to do if only pairs checked each other).

The fact that I missed last year and now there is no certainty that one will be on in the near future makes missing last year’s even worse, I had good reasons to miss it but I still dream of making it there one year before I’m too old.

I do like the idea of a remote competition. You could livestream a video uncut, hold up today’s newspaper in front of the camera to prove it wasn’t pre-recorded, and then verification only requires matching the live stream timestamps with the date on the paper. Nobody has to watch the video live, but they could.

I don't do whatsapp.
if you think I'm giving my mobile phone number to a faceless multinational conglomerate - you've never met me lol

My 'phone' is 99% a portable camera/computer/media device and all round amazing bit of technology.

What it's NOT for is: phonecalls from people I don't know, phonecalls from most people I do know, random texts :-)

If I could remove the phone aspect entirely - I probably would.

I do facebook messenger and that's as far as I'm prepared to go.

All notifications from everything are switrched off - I don't want it beeping away and showering me with random crap every time I switch it on.

Social media is a necessary evil - NOT an esssential part of life :-)

As I've mentioned, social distancing is pretty much my default state of being lol

But an october comp should be good, even I should have had an innoculation by then. I think I'm somewhere in the 4th or 5th group.
IE in the category of potentially dodgy medical condition(type 2 diabetes) but not old enough to be further up the ladder.

As it turns out I've either had it or I'm naturally immune, so it's not something I'm personally concerned about.
It's just how effected intermational travel will still be in october.

I'm currently waiting for the variant that is not effected by the current vaccines, pessismistic ?  possibly.
Biologically an almost certainty ? Definitely.

I like NOC's idea.

if possible we should stick to standard balearic rules.

So 4 sets of 5 shots at 20 metres.
The sets don't all have to be during the same recording - they aren't in competitions.

But each set of 5 throws should be a single continuous video.

We'll need some way to measure 20 metres.

You will need a standard balearic target.

so a 1.2 m square with a 50 cm central target.
top of square is 2.2m off the ground.

You can use a sheet hanging from a suspended line, a drawn shape on a wall or just about anything else you can think of.

Don't worry about deciding whether or not you've hit the target/diana - I am certain that all submittd videos will be thoroughly scrutinised and any borderline shots 'discussed' rather vigorously

Missiles can be anything you like. Although it has to be said that slinging a tennis ball 20 metres is harder than it looks :-) And at the international distances for tennis ball targets vary from 10 metres to 15.
As far as I know we've never slung tennis balls at a full 20 metres.

So - personally - I'd accept tennis balls at 20 metres as being equal to stones or clay.

Don't use golf balls unless you have a completely soft target - the richochets from wood or metal are lethal !

Not sure how we'll go about measuring the actual distance - not everyone has a 20 metre tape.
I use a length of string I measured that ties to the bottom of the target one end and to a length of pipe used as the slinging point at the other.

So a one meter rule and twenty lengths against it would be accurate enough - and video it being measured and laid out.

If you want to do a teams competition - then teams should be declared BEFORE a single stone is thrown !

After all there are cheating bastards out there - like me, lol - who are inclined to make sure the best slingers are in their teams

For sheer authenticity a bluetooth speaker should be playing random crowd noises with shouts and clangs - as loudly as possible in the background.

If you can get: friends, relatives, partners, passing dogwalkers and just random strangers to shout something hilarious at you - in spanish, german, catalan and occasionally english - that would all add to the correct atmosphere :-)

Heckling is encouraged and if someone could also throw the odd large rock at you during the throws - that too would make it feel more like the real thing.

Dodging the sideways releases of the slinger next to you, is just part of the fun !

We need some kind of handicap for jaegoor. He actually suffers from competition nerves - why he doesn't win everything and has yet to score a perfect 40 points in competition. On his home range - well we've all seen how he slings at home !
Pretty much unbeatable.

Maybe a crow scarer that randomly goes BANG really loudly, just behind him.
ideas please :-)

Jaegoor also probaly counts as a team on his own.
At the internationals he generally aligns himself with friends rather than other decent slingers - hence never yet being in the winning team
He's a nice guy like that :-)

So for the purposes of this exercise maybe handicap him with slingbadger and david morningstar
Hell - or me, haven't thrown at a target for nearly 2 years !

nope.
That's just messenger and you can switch that off.
It's not about privacy (that and 'rights' seems to be a mainly american obsession) - I just hate the telephonic aspect of telephones. And I really hate being hassled by machines.

Ibiza is good - should make that, be great to see elvis again - alas he can't come to mallorca (elvis is sonia and marco's dog).
Plus we enver got to the hippy night market last visit.

But not holding my breath yet - still a looonng way to go before october.

For distance, what about a tennis court?  If a target is at the back of no-man’s land on one side and you throw from inside the other no-man’s land, you’re at 20 yards, which is just under 2m short of a 20m distance. Regulation tennis courts can be found all over the world, and it’s easy to see that the distances are correct.

LOL!  That is so distracting.  Just post the GoFundMe link and I'm in.  ;)

In regard to the competition, I'm in as long as it's something I can set up in my yard.  Balearic target, no problem.  20 yards, no problem.  I think any location should be fine as long as the distance can be demonstrated in the video.

I'm not sure about a live stream though.  That would have some of us slinging in the dark.  Assuming there is the widespread participation on the forum that we've seen for some of the challenges.

20 METRES NOT YARDS.

Yards are a little shorter than metres - so no cheating ;-)

It's definitely easier to find a field than a tennis court.

Wouldn't know where to start for the latter.

And yeah the vuvuzela guys would be ideal :thumb:

livestream probably not realistic.

so we'll have a week in march when qualifying videos can be posted.

You can get 20 meters on a tennis court, but 20 yards is already marked, so there's no other visual verification needed, and it's within 10% of the original.  If everyone switches to 20 yards, then if you don't have a tennis court, you are in the same boat of having to figure out how to prove the distance, but anyone with a tennis court can just start slinging.

Ticket is cheaper from Austria at the moment, so booked swift-handedly  ;)
Lets see how the overall situation is if travel is really possible.

Last year there were many tournaments with ample warm-up possibilities, the international nagging paif out finally.
This year a 13person Indian team is expected, looking forward to them!

There will be also a lecture about the history of the sling, Alex has seen it already.
I promise to make the side comments in English also this time, not most of them in ,perhaps a few also in Spanish, which I have to brush up upfront...

Is anyone else here planning to come?

Well pep's put an indian flag on the poster - mind you there's also a lithuanian one there and I can't remember any lithuanians - was that last year ?

Intertesting.

Oh god (lol) not another lecture to dodge, and it's not like I drink any more either, so can't even go hide in the nearest bar

India has a good team.  kachale is also a master of Indian martial arts.  now something else.  Pep is no longer president.  there is a big argument with the feratio Balear.  He is not allowed to use the name of Mateo and he is not allowed to assign any titles.  Pep did a lot for sport.  but now it is dividing sport and destroying ten years.  and that in order to profile yourself politically.  I will therefore no longer support Pep.  for me it is a question of loyalty to the Federacio.  if we want the sport to endure, it won't work without the Federacio.  I will therefore not be there.  I also find a meeting of several countries at the moment just stupid.  Corona is not over.

I'm with you on the covid thing, the more I look into it, the more complicated and expensive it gets.

As far as the politics goes.
The old school federacio are too stuck in their ways.

If slinging is ever to become an international sport, then a lot of their rules and petty squabbling needs to change.

Competitions need to expand and embrace different aspects of the sport, with different events.
Something that will never happen under the traditional federacio rules.

Pep is a guy who makes things happen and who understands that the hard-line, out of date rules and regulations are killing slinging as a sport.

You're backing the wrong group Jaegoor.

Every year there are fewer slingers in the Balearic Islands.
If things do not change, soon there won't be enough for leagues and competitions.

Pep's not perfect, but his way is the future. If Balearic slinging continues on the old path, it will continue to dwindle and eventually vanish.

It comes down to whether you support tradition and pointless regulations OR do you support slinging and want to expand it as a sport ?

Title: Re: will there be an internatinal in 2021 ?
Post by Jaegoor on Sep 1st, 2021 at 3:14pm
you have a big mistake in reasoning.  and maybe also know little.  Pep looks first what is good for himself.  what brings him money.  what is of use to him politically.  and at the moment he uses all international participants.  why is he doing it in Ibiza?  why was he fired?  Pep is a doer.  that's right .  he does for pep.  for no one else.  every sport has fixed rules.  what are the rules of international.  shoot at cans?  to allow everything that somehow makes a stone fly?  in which sport does it exist?  who here has ever read the rules of the Balearic Islands?  so what bad rules are you talking about?  do you even know who is now president of Federacio?  what the international are doing right now is nothing more than going to a party in Ibiza.  there is neither an international federation nor something similar that is allowed to award official titles.  the Federacio Balear would be an important basis.  if this is not understood, they will be Pep's lackeys.  but slingsport will lose its value.  I will not take part in it.  I proposed a good system internationally.  it works very well.  Alex can you get a yellow t-shirt after so many years of shooting?

Title: Re: will there be an internatinal in 2021 ?
Post by Curious Aardvark on Sep 1st, 2021 at 4:53pm
yeah probably, with my ammo - no problem hitting a target.
But how many rules do you have for your 'slinging levels ?'

The whole belt volours in martial arts is a western invention.
The true roots of martial arts had no such nonsense.

I linked to the full balearic rules this week.
https://tirdefona.es/en/competicion/

In there own words:
Quote:
Nowadays the Balearic Slinging Federation is made up of more than 100 members

Not sure how old that informatuion is - but are there still 100 club slingers in the balaeric islands ?
I doubt it.

We have never had anywhere near that number of balearic slingers at any of the internationals.
And they incorporated the interisland teem competition - so pretty much every club slinger would have been there.
Even if you count the ones who just stand and scowl at the foreigners.

So yes I have read the rules and wow - there are a lot :-)
There is a lot of stuff that is out of date and no longer used.
And there is almost as much bureacracy as competition rules.

We have different agendas - I want to promote the use of slings and slinging as a pastime and to as many people as possible.
Only when you have a lot of people slinging in a lot of countries can you truly have enough people for a serious international sport.

But it needs to start with fun and variety or people just won't be interested.

You seem to be fixated on the historical aspects only.
And the controlling aspect of rules and bureacracy.

Before pep there was no real interest in the balearic islands in spreading their sport. Year on year there are less balearic slingers.

If nothing changes, it dies.

at the moment pep is the only one offering change.

So you don't like him - so what.
At the moment he's a lot better for slinging than the mallorcans who are opposing him.

And why should a slinging meeting not be a party ?

You seem to want slinging to be an elite 'sport' with rules and levels and all the crap that has created the very tiny number of slingers left in the world.

That's fine - you do that.

The rest of us will try and save the slinger and promote slinging as a sport for all - not just the hidebound few.

sorry.  but you have no idea about martial arts either.  Graduations are not a western invention.  you can find them in Japan, China, Philippines.  yes even in European martial arts.  you find them with guns and without guns.  sorry but you have no idea.  And I never said I hated Pep  I just hate what he's doing.  And even if I am interested in history, I am neither traditionalist nor in an elitist sport.  but hurling the forest and meadows is perhaps movement.  but no sport.  however, i am interested in sports.  what you want is fast food.  fast food cardboard something.  you savior of the slinger.  but do it.  I'm out of it.

Title: Re: will there be an internatinal in 2021 ?

if you go back to the origins of martial arst with the monks.
Belts and levels were not a thing.
Maybe I just know a little more about it than you do.

And no I'm not after fast food.
I'm after the complete banquet.

There is room in the slinging world for everything. The historical aspect, the re-enactors, the sling golf players, the people throwing balls for dogs.

It should encompass ALL aspects of slinging.
Not just the limited few the balearic federation concentrates on.

Never said you hate anyone.
But you don't like pep.  That's a simple fact.
I'm kinda ambiguous myself.
Pep is a pure politician, NOT a slinger.

It took me 5 years of solid nagging before he picked up a sling at the international.

But when you look at just how few balearic slingers there are left in the islands.
Maybe it's time for a politician and not a slinger to run things.
Slingers have not done a very good job.

I'm doing my best to save the sport - by ignoring popular sling usage, all you are doing is condeming it to death as a sport

As far as 'savior of the sling'.

Not so much.
Just trying to expand the number of people using them and increase the awareness of slings in the world in general.
And you cannot do that by just concentrating on a single small area.
You have to try and encompass the whole.

Anyway - latest on covid regulations from the uk.

You need both a covid pass AND a recent negative test to leave the country and the same to get back in.

Not sure if you can get away with a free test before you fly, or if you have to pay for one at the airport - in which case you're looking at around £40 for a quick test at the airport.

So around £160 including the test in ibiza.
Ibiza is still on the amber list.

It will all be reviewed in another three weeks.

And as ibiza is on the uk amber list, it could go either way: over to green or back into red.

mainland spain has now been put back in the red zone after being on amber.
And holidays and many flights already booked have now been cancelled by some holiday companies.

So definitely not booking flights until the next review.

And according to everything I;ve read - flights will just get cheaper.
So definitely not rushinging into this.

it's a shame that you don't understand  why was Pep fired?  do you know that?  and again the question.  do you know who is president now?  there is a great deal of movement in the Federacio.  much was blocked by Pep.  because it was of no use to him.  unfortunately that is a fact.  the fact that there are only a few slingers left is also a failure of Pep.  It's also frightening that we have known each other for so many years and that you know so little about me.  As far as I'm concerned, everyone can sing as they want.  I just despise using living goals.  i train kids.  we have developed many unusual methods and games for sling.  i can do a lot more than just reenactment or balearic.  As far as I'm concerned, you can play with your sling as much as you want.  but one thing is certain.  you cannot combine the whole buffet into a single competition.  there you have to make a limited selection.  and if you want, you can organize competitions in sling golf or underwater slinging.  anyone can do that.  why is this being asked of the Balearic Islands.  they shoot a Diane.  and they have set rules for this kind of competition.  this is the case in every sport.  they cannot play by hand in football.  they are also not allowed to play without shoes.  and oh poopy, even the gate has a fixed size.  by the way, monks have a very strict hierarchy.  and they have different characteristics that distinguish them.  that can be a specific hairstyle.  these can be knots in a belt.  But there are also colored belts or colored clothing in traditional martial arts.  there are different student degrees and also master degrees.  yes, even a samurai is not a samurai.  here too there are different levels that can be reached.  what you think you know is wrong

What is the issue?
Pep is still coordinator for international agendas in the federacio, even if he is not the president.
There is no president currently.
Elections are in November.
Pep was not fired, his designed period ended.
He runs for president again.
The voters will decide who is the new president.

And you're doing great things with plenty of variety.

As far as I can see all we're arguing about is the Balearic sling federation, something neither if us has any influence over.
So a bit pointless really.

If you go back to the very roots of martial arts, it boiled down to a master and a select few students.

The while level system, certainly in Chinese martial arts, only really came into being when masters started taking on paying students.
Probably a few hundred years ago, and most of those paying students were never taught the deep martial art.

That's the school I trained for 20 odd years. Under a master who's head of system was a living national treasure if China. The system traces its roots back beyond the popularisation of martial arts.
So by all means argue with Kim. I'm not going to.

As far as a banquet goes.
It's a lot of different foods and dishes that come together into a harmonious whole.

What I want is for All aspects of slinging to work together.

People who like the historical aspects, talking to people using slings in a more modern context.

At the moment everyone is sitting in different rooms eating just the one dish.

Target slinging us fun, but a very small part of the total slinging world.

To increase the number of target slingers, first people need to know that slinging still exists in the modern world.

One of the main reasons slinging is dying our in the Balearic Islands is that they keep it to themselves.

We've all talked to tourists in Mallorca, none of whom have ever known that slinging events were happening. And quite a lot of native mallorcans probably don't know either.

One thing pep has done is to take slinging into schools - like Christian has done in Austria.
To educate the natives about their national sport.

It's a start.

To me it's obvious that the next step is to advertise the tournament's and competitions to the tourists and locals alike.
So they go home and think. 'that slinging was fun, I wonder if I can do it in my country'.

At the moment the answer is usually, no they can't.

In order to change that, the whole slinging world needs to work together.

That's a banquet: something for everyone.

Exactly :-)

And quite frankly, does it really matter ?

This is where I am. I don't really know or care about any politics going on over there. I don't side with the federation or Pep, if there's even a real conflict.

The fact of the matter is there's an international sling competition/meet and I want to be there.

then do.  i'm out of there.  Pep was not fired from the Federacio.  he was dismissed from the Balearic governor administration.  he should have organized elections.  and he didn't.  he should have presented financial records for the past seven years.  and he didn't.  there is currently a temporary president.  So Pep represents Pep.  he is not allowed to give official titles.  not even because he was not allowed to use the name Mateo.  yes. an international meeting is good.  but not at any cost.  and the price is too high for me.  to accept an invitation to give a man political prestige?  in this form ?  no.  an international meeting at the time of a worldwide pandemic?  also no.  I prefer to shoot with friends and kids in Germany.

I dont understand why there is this back and forth arguing...

Surely as members of this forum we can agree on one thing... conflicts are best settled one on one... one person suited up in armor, the other with a staff and sling...

Seriously- its conflict management 101!

JK - hope noone takes offence - just trying to lighten the mood

Some people view politics as important.

Some of us don't.

Given that anyone can hold a meeting and call it 'the world championships'
And be as valid as anyone else, frankly who cares.

It's a place to meet old and new friends, who share our obsession with this ancient tool.

Ibiza is a fantastic island, the ibizans are great people.
And at the end of the day, all of that is more important than any petty political bickering.

However with the way covid seems to be going,  I have no clue if I'll be able to make it or not yet.

Same for me. I really really want to go but I'll be a British person moving between two EU companies. I don't think it would complicate things that much, but it might. I need to do some research before I can say I can go. It might end up too complicated to work it out.

Well you'll need a negative lateral flow test within 3 days of travelling.
That has to be an ibizan entry requirement.
And a fair bet Finland will require the same for re-entry.

Find out any Finland specific requirements as well. You might have to isolate for a set period.

I'm guessing each country is different.

I think I'm pretty much decided that I'll only go if Ibiza moves from the amber zone into the green.
I have absolutely no clue what the criteria is, I honestly don't think anyone except the govt flunky who makes the decision knows.the current best guess is that he's blindfolded, spun round three times, and then throws a series of darts at a map of Europe to pick a country
Then at a giant rainbow to pick a colour.

My dad has been over here for two weeks and in that time Finland went from amber to green... and nothing changed. All the same restrictions. There doesn't seem to be any difference.

lol that doesn't surprise me.

Not sure if the colours are for people travelling to or from a country.

The websites are pretty vague on all of it.
Okay this looks current:
[quote]What are the rules for green-list countries?

Nobody has to self-isolate after visiting countries on the green list.

Returning from a green-list destination, you must:

Take a Covid-19 test before departure and have proof of a negative result
Book a test for day two after your return (children aged four and under do not need to take these)
    Complete a passenger locator form

You only need to self-isolate on return from these countries if your day two test is positive, you develop symptoms or NHS Test & Trace says you've travelled with someone who tested positive.

Quote:
What are the rules for returning from an amber-list country?

The vast majority of countries are on the amber list.

Adults fully vaccinated in the UK, the US and most European countries don't have to self-isolate upon arrival in the UK.

A Covid test is needed three days before returning from an amber country, and a PCR test two days after arriving.

Adults who are not fully vaccinated need to take an additional PCR test on or after day eight.

Under-18s do not have to self-isolate. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, children aged 10 and under don't have to test before travel, but do need to take one two days after arrival. Those aged four and under don't need any tests.

In Scotland, children over 12 have to take tests before returning home, and on day two.

Quote:
What are the rules for red-list countries?

Red-list countries are those the UK government says present the highest Covid risk, and should not be visited "except in the most extreme of circumstances".

Dozens of countries are on the red list, including Pakistan, Turkey, Brazil and South Africa. If you have been in one in the last 10 days, you can only enter the UK if you are a UK or Irish national, or UK resident.

Returning from a red-list country - regardless of your vaccination status - you must:

Take a Covid-19 test before departure and have proof of a negative result
    Complete a passenger locator form
Self-isolate for 10 days in a government-approved quarantine hotel, booked and paid for in advance

Rates are:

    10 days (11 nights) for one adult - £2,285
    Additional adult (12 and over) - £1,430
    Children aged five to 11 - £325

so no real difference between amber and green.

But red - damn !
£208 a night for a government mandated hotel.

Yeah, lets see what the next damn list says about ibiza.

I would have thought with all the foreigners that have been going there over the summer, it would have put the infection rate right up.

we'll see.

So three tests, 2 forms and a fair bit of extra cost.
For 2.5 days actually in ibiza.

Honestly as much as I'd love to be there - I'm not sure i can really be arsed to go through all the hoops and rigmarole.

Maybe next year.

page to keep an eye on, spotlight on ibiza is an island magazine with lots of tourist info:

you'll probably still need a negative test result to enter ibiza.

you have to test again if you go from mainland spain to ibiza?
also how much does testing cost to get out of spain?
I'm just entertaining the thought I dont think I'll be able to come.

The lateral flow test - which seems to be the one required, costs between 100 and 140 euros.
Unless it's the PCR test.
It's the expensive one that gets sent to a lab anyway :-)

I've seen it listed as more expensive, but not lower than 100.

You can't use the 'instant' tests, it has to be the one that gets sent to a lab.

I was looking into this yesterday and, as far as I could understand, I wouldn't need to take any tests or quarantine at all. Finland is not a high risk country according to Spain so I wouldn't need anything to get into Spain. The problem is that I would be coming from Munich. Germany is rated as a high risk country. Luckily, it seems at least, having proof I'm vaccinated is enough and I still wouldn't need a test or quarantine.

https://www.mscbs.gob.es/en/profesionales/saludPublica/ccayes/alertasActual/nCov/spth.htm

You can present proof of vaccination, a negative test or proof of recovery from Covid. Everyone has to also fill out a health form before entering Spain. It's the same for the Balearic Islands.

http://safetourism.illesbalears.travel/en

I may well have misunderstood or missed something, but I think I just need to fill in the health form and prove I'm vaccinated.

Kick, my recherche came to the same result.
From Austria to Spain, and also from Spain to Austria there are three options. Either vaccinated, tested or recovered.
So If you are vaccinated, no other measures  required.

Well have fun guys, I'm going to sit this one out.
partly money, partly a lot of hassle to miss half the event and partly I still don't have a car and that's getting a bit desperate, so can't really afford to cough up the best part of £500 for 2.5 days in ibiza :-(

such is life.

Alex its a pity not to meet you there...
The flights seem to be cheaper here, arount 100E.
You will miss my trilingual talk about the history of the sling, if they manage to organize a connection cable between pc and beamer this time ;)
Also the hotel seems nice. But hotels always seem nice on their web page ;)

Perhaps there is still a chance for you to come? I will bring my homemade pine cone liquor again, does this help convincing you?
David will you bring THE horn?

the problem is I can only get a cheap direct flight friday, saturday, sunday and monday.

Which gets me there lunchtime friday.

To get there midweek I have to fly via different countries.
The shortest I found was 6 hours - but once you throw in luggage costs, it's over £500, add in hotel etc and a little spending money and it's close to £1000

Which i don't have.

Works out around £500 total, if i went friday to monday.

And I need a car.

I guess sometimes you have to do the sensible things rather than the things you'd like to do :-(

Yeah the ibizan hotels do seem to be a step up from mallorca.

Have a drink or two for me - 'cos even if I was there, I couldn't drink it lol

life pretty much sucks at the moment.

You'll be missed and we shall! I am bringing Finnish Koskenkorva vodka, which is a classic Finnish drink enjoyed by alcoholics across the country! I won't be drinking it myself because of my own medication and because it tastes like paint thinner. I'm hoping it will improve my slinging by bringing down everyone else's scores.

Lol, given the alcohol tolerance of Dave, Christian and Pete.
Good luck with that plan :-)

And as far as the locals go, they drink more at lunch then I ever did over a whole weekend.

Actually vodkas low carb, so I'd be okay with that :-)
