Title: Hello.
Post by xud9a on Dec 31st, 2020 at 10:07pm
Greetings Slingers,

Thanks to CA and all the other moderators for their contribution to our fun.
I am past the first flush of youth and have been slinging for about a year.
Already sharing the fun with my Dad and Grandkids.
Allowing for the international nature of the forum I have seen a lot of "misguided" words written about leather.† I am a trained leather worked and happy to share my skillset.
BE SAFE
BE SMILEY
BE STRANGE.

CHEERS,

X† 🍌

Howdy from South Texas!

Iím shocked... SHOCKED! that someone on here would carelessly share an opinion as fact† ;D
Just out of curiosity, can you give an example of the incorrect info on leather?†

Greetings NoC, Kick and Tomas,
Thanks for the welcome. Having read over† a few hundred posts since I found this magnificent resource it is much more an impression than absolutes but the most obvious is† a clear statement on the origin of suede.
As to what I'm into, the guy who trained me did everything from water wheel flow gates to leather clocks so I simply dabble and if it's leather I have a pretty good idea of what is what so mainly things like knife sheaths, motorcycle saddles and now sling pouches.
Cheers† 👍🍌

Wow leather clocks! Do you have your work online or anything? I'd love to see this stuff and connect!
My own handle on Instagram is @cobblestone_leathers .
A lot of my own work is also motorcycle related alongside smaller bits and bites like knife sheaths.

Greetings Tomas,

My healthy paranoia does not allow me a web presence.

As to leather clocks this is what the guy who taught me did. He retired to Ireland many years ago but if you want to know more I'm happy to share.

Also, sorry I can't check you out on Instagram as I do not have an account.

Happy to share on here or by email.

Cheers

Welcome.
I'm presuming leather clockfaces, rather than leather clock mechanisms.
If we're going to be pedantic, let's get it right

welcome to the forum and hopefully we'll meet up at some point during 2021.

Greetings CA,
Many thanks for the welcome.† 🍌

The guy in question made me look sober, sane and sensible. He studied leather craft as far away as Australia and Pacific Islands. He also worked in Egypt as a marketing advisor to leather craftsmen. I miss him.
The clocks, Everything visible was leather, he actually got as far as making an escapement out of leather but realised the finished article, if possible, would be the size of a small house !

Sorry to have to correct you, but I must differ.

I am not pedantic but was in fact deputy advisor to the acting, vice chair person of the society of Maltese Pedants.† May the 23rd 1647 to September the 8th 1902.

🤪🤓🤓🤓🦄

Thanks for the welcome and here's to meeting, south of Derby† 👍

Cheers

Call me impatient but I did a quick keyword search for "suede" :'( on the forum and yours is the only post with that word XUD9A.....
I'd still love to see your own work as you speak with an authoritative manner and it would be presumptuous of me to doubt you.

right this comes up a lot - people do not use the search engine properly. Otherwise you would easily be able to find stuff   Wink

You need to change 2 things to get an effective search.

1) change the 'post was made in the last..' to read (allposts)
2) tick the 'one result per thread' box

That's it - that will then search the entire forum and give you a list of relevant threads. If you search for individual posts - you will be swamped with multiple results from individual threads.

While you can search using the members name. bear in mind that many members change their username and the search engine ONLY recognises the names that they originally registered with. So that often does not work.

Suede brings up many results but unfortunately not the post in particular I read.
Be happy👍

Thanks for clearing that up!
Sometimes people make outlandish claims. If you search for the Turkey throw thread I'm sure you will have a good laugh 🙂

As to Turkey throw 😂🤣
