A site in Gaul (Vieux-Laon, ancient Bibrax) was besieged by Caesar in 57 BCE, with Balearic slingers. A survey on the site found a number of coins, including one very worn bronze. When cleamed, it turned out to be a piece from Ebusus-- ancient Ibiza, of the late C1st BCE.

While it is a bit technical, the aerial photographs show the ditches of the roman camp and in the same place the trenches of the first world war.
Impressive and a little depressing.

I discovered a kind of hillfort (éperon barré in french).
Several years after, during a walk, I found on the ground a grenade of the second world war at 10 meters of the hillfort.
Probably dug by a guy with a metal detector who left the grenade behind. What courage !
