I believe its time to year to start setting this up. For the new people.  SITH is called SLING IN THE HAT. Its a yearly Christmas sling trade. CA can hopefully do the picking, but i believe pairs should be done. Anyone is invited, its all out of your own pocket for $ for shipping . But u get paired up and trade slings. Just try to do it in a timely matter, since i am still waiting for last years. But all u have to write is I'm IN.I think we should draw around December 1st.

Just to be clear I am flexible. Cash is a satisfactory substitute for a sling if time becomes an issue. Unless I have Jaegoor in which case I must insist on the sling.

I debated that last year and decided to wait to find out what length was preferred by the person I was sending it to.

Standard post is fine most of the time , I’ve always shipped overseas and it’s always arrived, a issue can be weapon regulations and quarantine control. Hense always refer to it as a toy and if using natural untreated plant or animal fivers check with the recipient first to be safe, I wouldn’t be confident receiving a plant finer sling if it looks like a potential quarantine risk , Australia has strict borders

Pretty much what Mersa said.  I've always found USPS to be way cheaper than UPS or FedEx for international shipping.

Siths are a great part of this community and it’s a good way to try what other people have, I personally have received an absolute work of art 2 years ago and it’s one of my most prized slings, I’m still waiting on last year’s sith to arrive (I’m looking at you ARDVARK) but otherwise I’ve had good results in both sending and receiving. I’m still half half on this year as I originally stated but I have an idea on what I’ll send if I do participate.

Maybe consider a fancy version of your namesake sling Mersa? Or whatever. I personally like the design. It’s a very good EDC sling.

I also make a true edc sling that folds up to basically nothing and is easily carried on your keychain, that particular style slings pairs very well with lead. I do indeed and it’s a fun one and right in line with what I prize. Now...if I could only get one of Walter’s masterpieces my sling collection would be finished. Well...maybe a Luis Balearic but then for sure...Well...maybe....   ;D

Just a heads up mine may be a little late but it will be there. I'm trying new stuff so might take me a bit to get the bugs worked out.

I’ve been hanging in there. I have an update on my sling project that I will share in a bit. 2020 has put a pause on all forward movement. I switched gears and am in the process of launching an insect habitat at the moment. I’ll post an update on this new venture here also.

Anyone who is disappointed is missing the whole point of the SITH. It's not to brag it's to connect with each other. I would rather have a SITH sling from you guys than a super fancy one that I bought. Just my two cents.

+1 to that Morphy.  I just ask myself one question.  Is the sling I'm sending to someone a sling that I would take out and use myself.  If the answer is yes, there are no concerns after that.

It does not matter if the sling you are sending is a piece of art or not. The half hour, hour or eight hours it takes the donor  to craft the sling is gone forever. We can not get this time back. This is the true gift to our slinging brothers.

I always find it fascinating to see slings other people have made. No-one makes slings quite like anyone else and seeing those differences is really awesome.

I'm not enterig this year, as I still owe mersa a sling from last year (not his fault - so he's definitely in this years draw) and joe a package from the year before and vetryan a mould.
Yeah, I suck, I know.

But I will be conducting the draw, from the only official slinging.org baseball cap outside of wyoming :-)

I'm adding some "ninja-balls" for training ammo. Just balloons filled with flour, I've not been able to pop one yet. They smash pretty flat though.

Nope. Just next year. Its usually hoped for. I am still waiting for last years.but that person isnt active any more. IMO People like that should be banned from joining. Since its not fair. But its agood thing i am not a mod.

Ahh ok good. Ya the whole not getting one sucks but it’s hard to parse out who is not sending it because of something extreme and who is just being lazy. Might be good to see if we have any volunteers who want to make two slings just in case someone doesn’t get one.

I’ll volunteer but it wont be nearly as fancy as the main one I am making for SITH.

There always seems to be someone ready to jump in and send a sling to anyone who hasn't received one.  NOC is definitely in that category.

With us just doing a regular pair up this year, it's also easy to get someone a new partner if there are multiple no-shows when it comes time to send out a sling.

I will be happy to trade as many times as needed to fill the gaps. I haven’t decided if I want to go fancy and experimental for the cordage for SITH or if I will stick with the tried and true 425 paracord. I just ordered the die for my leather press, so everyone is getting a signature asymmetric leather pouch from me this year :)

This is exactly why I haven’t started making my SITH sling yet.  If I draw your name CB, I have alternatives to leather I can use.

So for whoever gets mine I need to know a couple things.

1. Do you prefer finger loop or wrist loop?
2. What are you preferred color combos?
3. length of sling preferred? Max of 28" (because braiding is time consuming and potentially expensive lol.)
4. What type of ending? I usually do tabs and a tab will go with the sling very well. It will also be the fanciest way to end it but I can do bare cord. Can't do a knot because that wouldn't match the design but maybe can figure something else like it out
5. Some type of leather protection will be a must. That will make more sense when you get it. If this is a problem probably best to put me with another person.

Deadline to join is tonight. @Midnight  December 1st. Then CA should be doing the drawing tomorrow for pairs.

Well CA has promised that my sith sling from last year is on the way so I guess you can count me in

I might send two simple slings

Just an FYI. I don’t have the time to do a complete custom sling. I will be making it to my usual specs. Also mine will be mailed within one week of the pick. I got shorted last time, but have also received some pretty cool slings in the past.

     I owe two people slings from 6 1/2 years ago when my wife died.  At that point I just stopped making slings.  I had been doing it to stay sane. Anyway, I don't recall who the two people are or even why I own them slings.  If you are one of the people I left hanging let me know and I'll send you a sling in the next two months.

yep sorry foilks, things pretty hectis at casa aardvark at the moment.

I'm stupidly busy with work and my mume just had  aknee replacement and came out of hospital with full blown covid 19.
So time is short !

Turns out I'm either 100% asymptomatic or naturally immunje to the plague, but the household still needs to be fed :-)
And unlike steve (lol) they like to eat three times a day.
She's pretty much recovered now and it's just getting the leg working again.

The problem with windossv10 is that Microsoft want people to use their store and apps.
So they're gone out of their way to dissuade you from installing any software that actually works.

I looked at this again and see two options that make sense.

Option 1 is to switch only the recipients. Because hubert has sent to Samuel, and Mersa has sent to hubert and me, the change would look like this:

Mersa - Samuel
hubert - joe-meadmaker
Samuel - hubert

Mersa will still receive from Slingbasket, and I will still send to RickkyBandit.

Option 2 is to switch both the sender and recipient positions, which will then include changes for Slingbasket and RickkyBandit too.  There are probably multiple ways to make this one work, but one way would look like this:

Slingbasket - joe_meadmaker
joe_meadmaker - hubert
hubert - Mersa
Mersa - Samuel
Samuel - RickkyBandit

I believe either of these will clear up the duplicate pairings from previous years (at least the ones that have been mentioned).  I am completely fine with either option, or open to other suggestions.

The rearrangement I posted will not affect you.  It's just a switch of a few positions because of duplicate pairings from previous years.  You'll still be sending to dork and receiving from Rat Man.

Yesterday, a coworker told me she tested positive for covid, gathered her stuff and left.  So I believe it is possible I may be asmptomatic or in the incubation period. Maybe not infected.
So Tomas, do you want to take the chance or wait?
What do you all think. Should we be mailing slings all over much of the world?

I think it would still be pretty safe. To be extra safe we could "quarantine" the packages once they arrive but it's going to be a pretty low chance to transmit it via package.

From what I've read, COVID should only survive on clothing and fibers for 2 days or so when everything else is optimal for its survival.  I think any risk when exchanging slings is going to be minimal.

+1 to Kick's comment.  If anyone is concerned, the package can just be put in a plastic bag and tucked away somewhere for a little while longer.

Walter, I appreciate you bringing up this subject. It is something that we should be aware of and sensitive to.

I do agree with Kick and Joe though. The virus can't survive for extended periods on surfaces. As long as the sling/package has sat for a  ~week, they should be safe to handle even if there was SARS-COV-2 somewhere on the surface. 

I like a few days in a bag idea. Like a week even better. Tomas?

I'm very thankful you brought this up Walter - I typically let any mail sit for a few days in these times but I think transparency is key

bear in mind that any full redraw will throw up other incompatible pairings - random IS random :-)

I did contemplate just picking pairs - but the random draw actually turned out quicker lol

Next year - if everyone also puts who they've sent and recieved to in previous years - I can work with that.

This year - suck it up and sort it out yourselves - you're all adults (probably) :whistle:

I hate being late. Its something  the military instilled in me. But i have been having a war with the usps. I almost cursed out the local postmaster,  since everything is so late. I niw have been paying extra for 2 day shipping and going through ups. Iol. Just to make sure i got other stuff.

I feel your pain Vet Lol! Our carriers over here are crazy. Then you have the meth heads trying to steal your packages. Our carrier will mark packages delivered and then not deliver them for a day or two. The office doesn't seem to care.

As far as the meth heads we had two 300 pound boxes on the drive way that are sheds needing to be put together and set up. Someone stole one. How the $&@! does one even do that? Did they just back their truck up our driveway and throw it in? Ballsy move either way. Weird area we have the very wealthy, the middle class and meth heads all in one small area.

I actually just back from usps, and FedEx,  it looks like fedex and ups are the better options right now. P ost office said everything for them is a stand still.  ,my materials did update last night, so its been about 3 weeks to send a package from NC to me. I could have driven down for it myself in 3 days.lol

Thats crazy poopy. But doesnt surprise me at all about texas, that sucks how they ,managed to steal that. Damn. Thats why i love cameras. Plus my gf stays home so, she is trained with ALL my firearms lol. So she is always ready.

We had the same stuff with mail carriers , growing up in NJ. I grew up on a dead end street.  The mail man would deliver mail, drive down the road, sit smoke a cigar, read the paper, take a nap. For about 3 hours everyday.  Lol always saw him on the bus ride from school. Lol. I had them recently and in the past. They lost my 6foot long bamboo,  and my atlatl set with 6 ft darts. Lol. How the hell do u miss a 6foot box??? Both times they could barely fit in the mail truck, and where i am at now, they use personal vehicles to deliver. Enough of my rant. Lol.


I did get my SITH out in the mail today.

It stinks, but the craziness makes sense if you think about it.  USPS had to shift resources to deal with a huge number of mail-in ballots last month, and now we are dealing with a Christmas rush, which is overwhelming any year, but with the pandemic more people are shopping online instead of in stores.  Both Fedex and UPS have recently stopped taking some shipments from major retailers just because they don't have the capacity to handle it... and guess who that leaves for all those Christmas purchases... good ole USPS.  If you don't want to spend the money to ship UPS or Fedex... just expect a lot of delays.

@morphy: that really sucks.  At least now that he (or she) has a shed, they don't have to live in the truck they used to haul away your shed :(

Well, it took me three tries before I was happy with the outcome, but I finally mailed my SITH 2020 sling.

On the plus side, I now have two spare, slightly lopsided, slings.

My SITH sling has been sent out to TheMightyAslan.

I've just sent mine out to Oxnate.

I've got some of those moose hide slings from a while back (a previous SITH? I don't remember now :D) And it's really nice stuff.

I think it was the 2018 sith, that we traded. Glad to hear i am not the only one enjoying the moose hide, most of my etsy sales are the moose hide as well

Made it last night and this morning. First time using a makeshift loom. I screwed up tightening the warp, so there are some blemishes. But overall, it seems like a decent sling. The pouch is stiff, but should hopefully loosen up with some use.

I was actually offering to just send willem a second sling above and beyond whatever IG sends without expecting a sling in return since he didn’t get one during SITH 2019. By design, I don’t spend 30 hours on each one, but I am in a unique position to fill in the gaps for anyone who doesn’t get a sling, since I have a few extras lying around.

@willem, Mine are not as pretty as IG’s, but they are slings that’ll last a while under everyday use.  They’re fun to use, easy to customize, and the design is unique.  PM me your address and I will drop one in the mail for you.

Yeah it’s sized for tennis balls, but it should work just fine with rocks. Of course, like all slings, jagged rocks will eventually tear it up, but the leather is double thick on the release side, and the cord is really easy to replace If it gets chewed up, so it should give you many years of use :)

By the way, there’s not much to reverse engineer about it. It’s just like any standard boat sling on one side and a flat piece of leather on the other. Because the release side is flat, you can put a deep pouch on the retention side and still have a clean release. If you want something smaller for rocks, I’m sure you can make your own custom asymmetric sling without much trouble.

Good to hear, i love hear other people experiences with it. I used to use elk hide, a long rime ago. But it was just sooo soft and expensive.  I couldn't justify it.

I got my slings yesterday from vetryan15. I only expected one but got three. A well done rock man sling and two seat belt slings along with a good hunk of moose leather. I’d post pics but can never remember how to do it. Especially from my phone. Thank you and great job.

You might want to resize them before upload also. I think you can do it through right click- edit on windows. 800x600 or 1200x900 (if you want it big) work.
Most modern camera resolutions take up acres of space on the thread as they don't auto adjust size.

It will probably differ by the phone. You may have to find an app for it. If all else fails just post the large ones and me or someone else can resize and repost, then you can go back and delete or remove attachments from the original post.

I got mine yesterday,  2020 from Ratman, which i  will take pictures today. A couple weeks back i actually got my 2019 sith as well.

I’m glad you got it. I was a little worried. Just note that paracord can be a little slippery until it’s broken in. Enjoy.

Customs has screwed me over! They required a declaration for the sling sent by StoneHuevos which I then provided, and they said they would send me an email as to whether they would release the package or not. It's been ages now with no email so decided to chase it up on the Finnish Customs site and apparently they required "additional information" (without saying what that information they need is) and it had to be sent in by the 13th or they would void the declaration  >:( Thanks for telling me you @£$€#%&!

So now I guess my sling is heading on back. Wonderful.

Maybe Stonehuevos shouldn’t put “ancient deadly weapon”  on the declaration

Maybe next year we should sort the SITH by country to avoid customs f-ups?  Also avoid the high cost of international shipping?

To everyone that is shipping international.  You need to write the description as 'braided dog toy' and value at $10 or under. This is how you get around it. I actually just sent some to @Kick, he got em no problem. I ship international alot. I never had one returned.

Little update. We just signed a lease and are in the process of moving hopefully in the next month. Hence the SITH hold up NOOC. I hate to put it like this but you will for sure have it within the next few months. Sorry I'm super OCD and can't send you something that doesn't match what I'm wanting to make. Haven't had time to get there just yet.  :-? :P

   I got this good looking Paracord sling from TheMightyAsian a few days ago. It is very easy and comfortable to use and should last a good long while.

It's not a huge thing or anything but your sling is next Mersa... Told you I was going to send a better one eventually and it will be. Then I make me a new one. It will be glorious... I hope.

Customs has screwed me over! They required a declaration for the sling sent by StoneHuevos which I then provided, and they said they would send me an email as to whether they would release the package or not. It's been ages now with no email so decided to chase it up on the Finnish Customs site and apparently they required "additional information" (without saying what that information they need is) and it had to be sent in by the 13th or they would void the declaration  >:( Thanks for telling me you @£$€#%&! So now I guess my sling is heading on back. Wonderful.

Ummm... Ok... So yesterday I went to check the customs page and the request for "additional information" was still open so I sent a pdf of a Word document that said:

"I did not receive any notification about a need for additional information (hence this being submitted late) and I’m unclear what additional information is required as it is not specified. The package is a gift from an acquaintance."

just because, hell, why not send a passive aggressive message when it seems the package is never going to get here anyway? Today I went and checked the site again just to see if they had finally cancelled the customs application and... it's been approved and cleared by customs...

So I guess it is coming. Awesome!

I shipped it on Jan. 6th. unfortunately, I lost the receipt with the tracking No.  I'd imagine a few more weeks. It took 4 weeks to ship from here to Europe, so it might take a few more to get to South Africa.

  I just got a Christmas card mailed from the Netherlands before Christmas.  The overseas mail is at a crawl. 

Received a nice balearic from Albion a few days ago. It's a little short for me, but I've been throwing tballs with it and adjusting to the new length just fine.

@Rat Man - That is also good news (in a certain way).  I'm waiting on a sling that was sent in December.  I got a very generous offer from Hubert to send another one, but recommended we give it a little more time.  The fact that Rat Man just received a card that was sent before Christmas makes me think it could definitely still be coming.

Hmmm... ok. That’s frustrating. When I sent a package to J it took a few weeks longer than expected too, but I would think it should be there by now.  I will send another one if you don’t receive it by the end of the month.

It actually arrived! I'm amazed! I was sure it was on it's way back but I got my SITH today!

A customised paracord sling, a reflective incredibly colourful paracord song and two papier-mâché glandes  :D :D :D

And yes, that glande says "Suck an egg". I love it.

There's a lot less interesting and a hell of a lot less planned reason for my name. When I finally got an Xbox 360, my friends were saying I needed to have a funny name for XboxLive. This was during the LOL RANDOM period of internet humour (truly dark days...) so I tried to come up with some random name and somehow settled on kicktheotter. I just started using that for everything after a while and it was actually my name on here originally. I changed it to Kick because that's what everyone was calling me anyway and the "full name" doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Yeah I’m waiting on 5 different slings , 2 of them are sith slings , 2020 and 2019,
2019 still probably not in the post , other 4 are probably sitting at the local post office waiting for some bored post office worker to actually mail to me.

Yep I'm so glad it finally got here!  ;D On the package it says 25/02 so I figure it might have arrived then. My local post office is a bit slow...  ;D

I mean, I was really going for the record - previoiusly held by tomas :whistle:
I make it around 19 months late.

In my defence, most of the stuff I put in the parcel hadn't even been made in 2019, and a couple of bits are complete one ofs.

So I did my best to make up for the 'delay' :-)

The parcel actually spent 10 days in the uk waiting on a flight to australia.
Once it landed in oz, only took 3 days to get to mersa.

I had not realised but most international post is carried by commercial passenger planes as cargo.

So with there being hardly any passenger flights from the uk to australia at the moment, we had to wait a week and a half for some cargo space to become available.

This is also why international postage costs have trebled in the last year.

Assuming air travel ever gets back to pre-pandemic levels, I bet the bastards won't put the postage back down.

A small parcel 200-500g to the states is now £16.60
And that's not even tracked - add another £3 for tracked.

It's kind of put the kybosh on the mould selling  business, I can tell you !

And i also have a couple of slingbaskets slings.
really interesting design and they throw well.

But I'll let mersa tell you what he actually got, lol
