Title: Hiya from Minnesota!
Post by NimNom on Jul 22nd, 2020 at 9:24am
Hello! I have been interested in slings all of my life, and after watching a primitive technology video on one, I decided to make one.
This last week, I went into the woods and stripped the inner bark of an elm tree, and spun into rope. Not very supple, but it did the trick.
I used a stiffened piece of rag as the pouch, which worked for about 3000 casts. I will have to replace it soon, since it slowly tears itself apart.
It's a little ghetto, but it did its job for a while.

I started with an overhead cast, but I find that a single quick spin is a lot more accurate. Is this throw less powerful?

Welcome, your in the right place to learn all you need to know.
Keep developing your own technique and enjoy it.

As for power that will come with a well executed technique.

Enjoy

Hello, warm welcome!
I relate a lot with your story, knowing about slinging beforehand but then making one after the primitive technology video.
Some techniques have an inherently long power-strokes, Balearic for example, but the majority power comes down to a refined technique just like Mersa said. The real trick is learning how to without causing strain or injury, then you can practice as much as you want.

Welcome from New Jersey, NimNom.  I've made some pretty ghetto slings out of necessity myself.  BTW, I shrunk your picture for you.
