Title: New Slinger from Portugal
Post by Lusitano on May 3rd, 2020 at 5:40pm
Hello all

Let me introduce myself. My name is Mario and I am from Lisbon, Portugal.

I am new to the art of slinging and I am happy to start learning. So far I have made my first sling. I have used  a model provided by this forum.
It has been fun to swing some balls in my backyard although my lack of skill. Hope it improves with practice ;D

Looking forward to meet and learn with you all

Cheers

Hello Lusitano,
What anmunition do you use ? Tennis ball or stone, or others ?
Slinging is a funny way.

Hi

Since at this moment we are mostly restrained at our homes to minimize social distance I am confined to a ver small backyard and I had to improvise my ammunition as well.

I needed some safe ammunition as I have no experience and most likely will fail a lot initially. Since I had some paracord at home I have made some balls from it to throw. This way it is safe and do not have fear or brake something or hurt myself if I fail.

With time and experience I plan to source for more suitable  ammo...

Regards

Thanks. Actually after some training I have found out that my slinging accuracy highly improved when I started to use a tennis ball. Ultimately, I now understood that he paracord monkey balls where very light to allow a good feel while I was spinning the sling.  ;D

If I used stones I would for sure be kicked out of the house by my wife as I would destroy the entire backyard ;D

Welcome! That's a well-made looking sling; I haven't yet been able to put together a paracord sling myself (I use a braided sling.)

Thanks Captain_Twine.

It was very easy to make the sling. I just used the model provided on this site to cut a piece of leather. I have made a new sling now which is a little bigger since I have swapped to tennis ball as ammunition. The new sling pouch model is also from this site ("Boat Sling").

I plan in the future to make a braided sling (similar to a balearic sling) but it looks so much more difficult to make...  ;)

I've found braided slings are easy to make, difficult to master :D I feel I can now say I make an alright braided sling, but it's taken a long time.

As far as I know, mario is our first portugese member - and my memory for this kind of thing is usually right.

The 6 hole sling is a very good place to start.
Also good to see you've attached the cords correctly as well :thumb:
