Title: Hello from East Coast USA (Pennsylvania)
Post by HellerBee on Mar 4th, 2020 at 9:11am
Hi!  New to slinging but have always been interested in archaic weapons. Blowgun is probably my best skill (making and using) but haven't been into it in a while.

Hoping there are some local/regional get togethers. I'd love to go sling in Mallorca someday but for now maybe in the tri-state area?

Picture: Two slings I made (one boat, one crossed strap). Both Kraft-Tex pouches, one paracord and one flat jute "ribbon".

Welcome from Finland! I would love to see the blowguns you've made. I've never been sure of the legality of them over here (although I haven't really looked into it deeply) so haven't tried making my own.

Welcome from Pennsylvania!
I'm on the west side of the state though.  Near Pittsburgh.  :)

Oops, I mean Kraft-Tex. "Kraft-Tex is a paper product that washes, cuts, and sews like fabric, but looks and feels like leather as it softens and wears."

Howdy from South Texas!

Kraft-tex, huh? I’m definitely going to try that stuff.

Thanks for introducing a new material!  I ordered some and made a couple of slings to try out :)

Here’s more info on Kraft-tex:

Since I've had a little more practice, I've decided Kraft-Tex is not great for stones or irregular objects. But my pouches ares till very stiff. Good for a clean release, but doesn't really cradle anything that's not round. Maybe when it gets broken in.

So far, the kraft paper has been interesting... it feels more like rawhide than a tanned leather.

Try making a more aggressive pouch shape and using a wider piece. I like to make mine about 3.5” wide. Here’s an example picture of a 3-finger asymmetric pouch pattern. It fits a tennis ball, but it also throws smaller rocks and other things just fine.

strange material does it burn like leather, paper or plastic?

Interesting question... it should burn like paper or wood, but I’ll have to try it out to make sure ;D
