Not sure about this (sent to me by someone)-- Chiusi museum, C2nd BC Etruscan urn-- with what is clearly a slinger with long warsling and typical posture (leaning away from direction of shot).

Even considering how old and damaged it is, that's a lot of detail. It would have been amazing to behold the day it was finished.

Also the hold of the thumb in the sling is quite similar to the coins of Aspendos

Now that you mentioned the thumb on the projectile I noticed, he has a strange grip with his right hand don't you think? Like both cords are on the thumb.

Could they be wrapped around the palm rather than around a finger?

You still have to pinch or hold on to the release cord ? (unless it's looped around the bent thumb). I wonder if the slinger is hanging a basket or pouch from his left elbow (e.g. here, a picture from ca. 550 BCE, so four centuries earlier)

Thearos rhis is a great observation and seems perfectly plausible to me. Do you have more information on the vase 550bc, e.g. which museum, name of the vase, publication details or anything that could lead the trace to more information? This ould be great!

Not sure the Beazley archive gives the right page rather than reset to the search page, so here's a screenshot.

Very intrigued by the slinger on the Etruscan urn. Does anyone know whether the urn has been published?

The hand grip looks similar to some of the stater of Aspendos coins
