If you look around these can be had for really silly money.
I should have one arriving this week.
Looked around online, found prices up to £30.
Eventually got one on amazon for - wait for it !

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07KBZG7HT/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
£3.09 delivered :-)

The original advert I saw was on facebook and they wanted over £20.

I've found with all the gadget adverts on facebook - if you look for the same product on amazon or ebay you'll get it monumentally cheaper :-)
While not buying from a totaly dodgy website that probably won't even send it.

More when it arrives !

Even got coloured ones on ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/7Color-Metal-Telescopic-Appearing-Magic-Cane-Stick-Stage-Magic-Trick-Magic-Wand/201727256885?hash=item2ef7e1a935:m:msn1ABoGtIvS6tm1fZI5e-w:rk:5:pf:0

Now you're not going to hit anything with it - clearly it's just for playing with.
Anyone who's met me will know I have a penchant for spinning staffs, sticks, pens, brooms. You can't take me to a hardware store without my spinning something

so this should be fun :-)

Interesting, I’ve always liked the idea of making things as compact as possible for some reason.

Oh, also check this out, sounds like you may enjoy it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_38vtmlIwSU

Would be good to use as a deterrent.  An element of surprise

I saw these and investigated them a little while ago and I saw a lot of people warning that they can be sharp as hell and WILL try to cut your fingers off so be careful with it but they are very cool.

Worst case you can sling it and hope it expands on impact

Cool. It's a Minbari fighting pike:

Might be nice for extended reach. It would also be a cool (but not necessarily effective) escape effect if you set off a bunch of these after passing through a doorway to make it look like steel bars. A lot of Amazon reviews do complain about cut fingers. Please wear gloves!

lol I have pretty cut proof skin.
Should be fun.
Just need it to arrive :-)

According to amazon, it should have arrived by now.

arrived this morning.

weighed it - 112 grams.

Haven't managed to catch it yet.
That said collapsing it down take a bit of practice.

But it is surprisingly rigid.
Spins well too.
this is going to be added to the things I habitually carry in my pockets :-)
IT shouldn't come undone in your pocket.
But best to keep it in  a loose jacket pocket rather than jeans I would say.
If it pops in a jeans pocket you will have some problems !

Can't emphasize enough how not-wobbly this is.
You can get a few extra cm's by twisting gently and pulling and then tightening.
If you ever wanted to get into staff twirling - you need one of these :-)

Not as easy to get cut as people say. But then what some people do always amazes me

I'll measure it in a bit - but got to be around a metre.
116cm - give or take a few either way.
Just caught it. It's almost open and close your hand as fast as you can.

Mind you you need to grip it tight and keep your fingers on each end or as soon as you pop the safety the end just shoots right out.

That's a martial application right there. point the knob at someones face and hold the end and it'll smack them pretty hard.

One thing you need to remember when playing indoors - ceiling lampshades
And we'll leave it there lol

okay been playing with this for a few days - honestly I have no idea how you would cut yourself.
Unless you were stupid enough to try and unravel it or try and snap it in half.

No sharp edges, unless you try and unravel.

Right i did say you couldn't use it as a weapon.
I'll change that.
You most definitely could.

If you smacked someone over the head, it would most likely bend or break in half (not snap, break).
However, many bo staff strikes are with the ends. And that you most definitely CAN do !
The tip is a solid metal knob with a rounded tip. I have tried to compress the staff lengthwise. And it does not budge.
You could not only get a pretty hard poke in, but that solid tip could do some real damage.
If you pull it slightly and twist inwards to tighten, it's surprising just how rigid you can make this.

The other way you can use it, is to set it to go. Hold the wide part, point the tip and let it strike that way.  There is some real force in the uncoiling spring action.

But cut yourself ?
Just can't see how, unless you're being stupid and trying to break it :noidea:

What I want now is a shorter one with thicker steel that expands to the length of a telescopic baton :-)

The batons themselves are illegal to carry in the uk, but a 'toy' expanding one, you might get away with :-)
