Title: Hello from Romania! Post by ThracianSlinger26 on Aug 20th, 2018 at 8:36am
Hello!I've been slinging for some time, and i've decided to sign up on this forum!
Q&A! When did i start slinging? I was about 7 or 8 years old when i started slinging... What was your first sling? My first sling was just a long strip of cloth.Big rock in middle, swung it for some time, and released. It wasn't great,my accuracy was 0%,but it kinda worked.....kinda....As i got more into slinging and slings,i made my first "real" sling.Hemp cords, electrical tape pouch, looked better, worked way better, but my accuracy was still 0% Favorite sling design? Rockman,Balearic split pouch, and Palestinian,as the ammunition i use are big, jagged rocks. Favorite material for making slings? Vegetable fibers and leather.Mostly jute cordage, and thick buffalo leather.I worked a bit with paracord, but jute cordage is still the best in my opinion. Favorite slinging styles? Sidearm, followed closely by overhead. Other favorite primitive weapons? Cudgels/Shillelaghs,Bolas,throwing sticks, and Atlatls.I have quite a bit of experience with whips, even though they don't count as primtive weapons (or any weapons...) How accurate am i with the sling? I'm not that accurate, but i can consistently throw fist size rocks at a big distance.I can also hit a rabbit size target from about 4-5 meters.Doesn't sound that great, but i'm proud ;) I will gladly answer any other questions! |

Welcome! The rockman is one of my favorite designs too. Out of the slings you own, what do you use the most?

I really use what i feel like....i think the rockman is what i use the most, but it's not consistent.Right now,i don't make a lot of balearic split pouch slings,as they are no longer my favorite design (it was for a while, because that was the only type of sling i could braid :D).I use the palestinian style when i feel like having a lot of fun, without any target in mind (being so large, this type of sling is not accurate at all). |

I've used a few Balearic, while they are really good i personally dont understand the nonstop praise they seem to get around here, but maybe its just me. I would use my rockman slings more but they take up too much space in my pocket. What do you use to weave the pouch? Jute or hemp?
