Title: International slinging convention 2018
Post by Curious Aardvark on Feb 12th, 2018 at 7:12am
I've booked my flights. Got a pretty good deal too.

Managed to get flights direct to palma from east midlands airport (20 minutes drive from me).
£183 including 22kg hold luggage.
About £50 cheaper than they offered me last week :-)

Only snag is I have to fly on the 26th. So will have a couple of free days in mallorca. As this is my one and only annual holiday, a couple of chill out days without the energy sapping routine of life On The Bus, is more than welcome :-)

Also looks like Jaegoor will be there from monday too, so we'll definitely find somewhere to get some practice in. Got a couple of contacts I can hopefully get hold of.
I really want to try out a totally non-macho target slinging style.  It's just been too wet, dark and cold to even use the pipe target.
Pretty sure with a little practice, I'll get much better scores.

So that's current news - now need to contact pep and see about paying him in advance and which hotel we'll be at and whether it would be cheaper for those 3 nights to book it myself.

You lucky bugger! If I could get there that cheap I'd be in for sure!
Flying half way across the world to throw some rocks is on my list.
Please make some videos.

got new phablet - so will be taking lots of photos and vids.
Turns out a smart phone without a sim card (ie a: smart) is a really great little tablet :-)
Cheaper than larger one, goes in a pocket and seriously nice spec.
Plus all the apps that refuse to install on my larger tablet install on the 'smart'.
I went for a doogee x30. https://www.amazon.com/DOOGEE-X30-Android-Smartphone-Cameras/dp/B076Q8N6PC/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1518612912&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=doogee+x30&psc=1
Mainly for cheapness - if you wanted a totally kick ass phone for 1/4 the price of  asamsung or iphone get one of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074PT27YT/ref=sspa_dk_detail_1?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B074PT27YT&pd_rd_wg=O7WCn&pd_rd_r=CEACKEPJEMNP5RNRAY31&pd_rd_w=PFgGN

I'll get a local sim when i get to mallorca.
And I'll put the uk sim from the emergency car phone in as well. Dual sim :-)

Assuming we're in the same area - hotel wise - I know where the local phone shop is.

Hello!

I know this is a bit late, but does anyone have the scores from this competition? I'd like to enter them as the first data in the Funda-Metrics spreadsheet.

Thank you!

Which I cannot find.
tir de fona baleares
You would think would be easy to find.

But if you track it down, there is a lot of comptition results including all the internationals.

What happens at these conventions?
Is there only a contest, or are there also lectures, selling of handicraft, gatherings and something like that?

I can talk about the latest one last year. We had an "opening meeting" where we went through the itinerary and had a bit of a presentation (which was mostly for some visiting politicians to get them onside for continued/additional funding and support). After that we all had a big meal in a nearby restaurant that we almost got thrown out of because Pepe from Malaga was cracking his sling inside. It was loud enough to leave your ears ringing and the waiters were not as impressed as the slingers were. We did some rock slinging then the next day tennis ball slinging, grilling pork on a set of massive barbecues and then more rock slinging. Final day was then more tennis ball slinging in the centre of Palma. We were there to show off for people coming through for the big celebration they were having in the centre. Diego was making and selling slings during the competition and then, on the last day, some of the slingers were playing traditional instruments which was really cool. From what other people said, we did more slinging last year than in previous years, but I've only been the once so I don't know.

I made a video of clips from last year so this should give you a good idea:

That seems much more social than I thought and really nice.

Haha. Luis of Menorca told me that his group of slingers often lobbied for financial support of slinging.
