Maybe I should plan an early holiday next year... 50€ a day for accomodation and all activities is more than fair.

Those of you who have been there before, what's the actual competition like? Rules, classes, etc.

I hope things are well for ally the rockers and stoners out there--where would this meeting take place and whats the itnierary?

the meeting will take place on mallorca.
The itienary will be absolute murder !
Pep does not believe in either sleep, or sticking to a schedule.
Mostly this is down to the spanish/balareian love of making speeches - at one meeting we hosted the professional inter island speechifying competition.  The minister for sport was there, as was the local mayor and various other dignitaries - all vying to out speechify the others. For my money, pep took it by a whisker. But the local woman politician was apretty close second.
Think that one went on for about 2 1/2 hours by itself.  It seemed longer.
None of these guys are in castro's league - but they're getting there :-) 

On that occasion, after the speeches we were escorted to our restaurant by the local paralympic competitiors, dressed as demons - complete with huge papar mache heads and banging drume.
It was unbelievably surreal and at no point were we given any kind of explanation about what was going on.

Usually while these things are going on, myself, david and some of the guys find a nearby alehouse and get a few cervesas down our necks :-)
Or in the case of Christian, a few cocktails - he carries an entire bar around with him :thumb:

So you can guarentee that whatever it says on the official schedule, by the time you get to an evening meal it'll be at least 2 hours later than it was supposed to be :-)
But on  a good day you'll be too drunk to care  :nana2:

The trip is worth it !

Competition wise.
we had 3 or 4 last year.  I only really remember the one I got a trophy in :-)
Some are for everyone with seperate categories for women and children.
Some are for teams - which are mixed: men women and kids,
I'm hoping to bring some vikings with me and have enough brits there next year to field a team., we'll see.

Some of the competitions are for locals and internationals and some are for everyone regardless.

All competitions are done in 5 shot rounds, at 20 metres for men and teams and 10 metres for women and children. 

The guys and women are the nicest friendliest folk you could ever hope to meet and best hosts ever. Even jaegoor's a good bloke in person ;-)
Just don't try to give him fake fanta !

It's a complete and total blast - please come.
There will be a lot more information forthcoming in the next 6 months. This is the earliest pep's ever announced a meeting by about 5 months.
usually we get about 3 weeks warning.

So this year there is no excuse !

well david always has a running commentary on his facebook page - I'm guessing now he's got his google pixel - it'll be working overtime this year :-)
He's very keen on slo-mo videos and it does take pretty good ones.
You just need to remember that he's not there on his own lol

Por lo que os solicito que si teneis alguna propuesta de mejora con respecto a otros

años, o bien algun lugar para visitar en la isla de Mallorca, ruego me lo hagais llegar

y lo estudiaremos a ver si es factible o no y si se puede incluir en el programa final.

doesn't look like we can field an english team this year.

But we could make up a slinging.org team. Hubert, christian, jaegoor, me and david (we have to let him play or he'll sulk) - we'd stand a decent chance I reckon :-)

Got my new short sling and going to do some practive before we fly. Minimum Goal this year is to not blank in any comp. 

Pretty sure I've just been using too long a sling in the past. As all my misses have been high - bang on target, just high. Short sling should fix that.

Also see how I get on with the clay balls and the balearic target.  75% average hit rate on the hill fort with them. And close to 100% at 20 metres. But that was totally different targets and conditions. So we'll see.
Yep actually taking it seriously (well almost)  this year :-)

I am trying to fit this into my schedule...

Hopefully I can make it this year.

depends who you ask.
If you ask an englishman, like me, I'll say it's like a good english summer. Shorts, t-shirts, sun glasses. Fruit growing on trees. Fabulous.
Particularly if you're coming from the 3c, grey overcast skies, wet swampy ground and general all round miserableness of an english winter.

If you ask one of the locals - who'll be wearing scarves, gloves, hats, padded jackets etc. They'll tell you it's cold.

So luis will probably pack his thermal underwear, I'm packing shorts and sunglasses :-)

First year we went it was 27c - dave and I were sweating our bollocks off and the locals were in scarves, gloves and warm coats.

Personally I probably couldn't stand it in the balearic summer. So I'm glad they hold it in their winter.

You get the odd rain shower - but like I said, it's like a good English summer :-) (which tends towards the wet side of life).

All relative really.
For m the weather's about right.
Though we did get bloody soaked one day last year. But wasn't cold, so no harm done.   

Will this be the first ever American there? Btw, Good Luck guys.  :)

Was completely brutal schedule, completely exhausted, physically and mentally.
Some good stuff some amazing stuff, a lot of slinging, new friends made, old ones reunited and the first Chamorro in history to break a slingstone on a diana in international competition. My new friend guelo.

we had the invasion of the barbarians this year.

Jorn, jaegoor, christian, diego and Uwe all wore their reenactment gear (See, I didn't call them 'costumes' :whistle:  for a large part of the week.

Was good fun and the first time that diego had competition in the 'photos with the public' stakes.   
Surprisingly Uwe's bare feet got a lot less comments than you'd think.

Palma on the 1st march is packed with miles of craft and food stalls and many thousands of people thronging the streets.
Even christian with his dead sheep across his shoulders had  a hard time clearing a path. And that's one austrian mountain of a man - in his gear he wouldn't have been out of place in the original (and best)  conan movie. .

We have a target set up by the lake every year in a sort of cage and kids get to have a got with tennis balls.

We did a demo before we were allowed to go for a wander/drink. I put in two throws, first one went through the plastic and fencing, second one hit dead centre of the diana.
And then it was time to go find a cold Estrella damn :-)

I want to hear about the bed bugs...

Well both david and i were getting up in the morning wiith bites we didn't have when we went to bed. I was on the 5th floor, he was on the 4th.
Checked when i got back and the longish red welts i had in a few places were from where a bunch of bugs git together and had a good munch on a particularly juicy part of my anatomy.
If i'd been less tired when i went to bed, it would have bothered me.

But i'll suggest to pep we use a different hotel next year.

Apparently there has been a massive increase in bed bug infestations in the last 10 years, with lots of new strains immune to the insecticides. Heard a radio program about the resurgence of bed bugs last year. Never realised i'd experience it first hand.
Hotel has been fine previous 2 years.

Emptied my suitcase downstairs this year and straight into storage :-)
I presume others got bitten as well. I'll try and do a survey, think i've got most on my facebook friends list now.

Ich hatte sechs bisse. Das Hotel ist nicht gut . Sehr unsauber. Ibiza wird nicht wieder kommen in dieses Hotel .

Jaegoor slung lhis heart out that day. Very impressive.
Going to have to check what louis scored in ses salinas. Same points jaegoor got in palma, but not sure who got the most dianas.

And yep, looks like we all got bit, as jaegor was in a different wing of the hotel.

How can I participate in this competition and how do I know when it will happen?

it will happen next year between the 28th february and 4th march.

Basically the big competition is always held on the 1st of march at the seafort in palma bay. So it's best to arrive the day before. The last day is always the sunday following the 1st, so best to fly back on the monday.

To get involved you need to contact pep ribas ribas - president of the balearic slinging federation and organiser of the event.
And get yourself to mallorca in time for 1st march 2018 :-) 

German is the most popular flavour of foreigner after spaniards then british, then a bunch of one offs including: tibet, guam, ukraine, uraguay and other places both exotic and far flung

By all accounts Guam could well leap into second place next year if Roman has his way and brings an entire micronesian army with him :-)
