Title: Sneaco's Slings and Stuff Post by sneaco on Sep 16th, 2013 at 6:46am Hi - in this thread I'd like to post pictures of the sling types I'm making and collect my wants, regarding the slinging hobby. The following posts will contain: 1.) leather-pouched slings 2.) balearic slings 3.) other slings 4.) materials, components, etc. I'm usually interested in slings made from natural/historical components and currently searching for: - a King Tut Sling, as close to the original as possible - self-crafted stone bullets - a reconstruction of this: http://anthro.amnh.org/anthropology/databases/common/image_dup.cfm?catno=16%20%20%2F%202022 - basically anything cool, surprise me :) Whenever I add something new I'll up the thread. Cheers, Nico p.s.: the location I'm sending from is Germany |

1.) leather-pouched slings
(all bindings are waxed hemp) left is flax strings, thin, flexible leather pouch, flax brush middle is wicker strings, thin stiff leather pouch (waxed), flax brush right is flax strings, thick, flexible leather pouch (oiled and waxed), brush from lamb's wool the right one is my favourite sling so far. It's 27.5 " (folded), quite heavy but not slow on release. The leather was watered, kneaded, cut and shaped, then filed (aesthetical purpose only), oiled an waxed. The Stringholes are cut in crescent shape to form lips which cover the strings, so your ammo won't ever touch your strings causing abrasion. I uncorded the strings at the pouch (finger-string) and the release end and fixed them again with waxed hemp to create joints in the otherwise unflexible flax rope. Several retries were necessary to create the right angle but I'm very satisfied with the resulting "pistol grip". |
