Please post anything you find that doesn't work as you would expect it to.

I already know about missing smilies and will sort as and when i get time.

Hopefully most things should behave -0 but if not let me know.

I noticed we've lost stickies and the PW Index. All members, notify me here of what's missing and I'll get to it. http://www.slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1371240992/0#0

okay I'm aware that every single link either on the forum or the internet at large is still pointing to the old forum.

Working on it - just need to find out if what I intend to do will kill everything I've spent the last week doing - or not :-)

Bear with me.

okay I know about the pictures - got to upload all the forum attachments to a new folder (some idiot deleted them this afternoon  ) - hopefully they'll all be working again tomorrow.
Only 14,700 files to go :-)

Lightning fried my phone system the other day and it did damage the DSL server for the area so it may not be this program.  When I click a topic, it takes 30 seconds to a minute to load and then open.  I am not computer savvy so I don't know if it's the program, my computer or what.  Posting a message takes about the same time.

it's your end - sounds like you need to either replace your adsl microfilters or get the phone box rewired.

forum access yesterday (june 15th) would have been patchy anyway as I was moving all the new stuff back to the old folder having first deleted the old forum completely.

It should all be working from now on.
I still have to get all the attachments re-uploaded (only 8,000 to go) back to the file I deleted yesterday (yeah well if it was easy we wouldn't call it 'hindsight' :-)

After that I'll redo the template and style sheets from scratch so expect some weird cosmetic changes over the next few days.
Somewhere in the mass move around yesterday I lost the navigation bar. so redoing the templates from sacratch ought to fix that.

But on the whole - things should start to settle down in the next week.

any other: issues post here or pm me.

I sort of thought it probably was, I can't watch a vid, either.  The box is about waist high, it's down by the end of my driveway, after the storm, there were pieces and parts scattered all over the ditch, the wiring looked like burned spaghetti.  Oddly enough, I didn't loose phone service, everyone past me did though.  Something about where I live seems to attract lighting, I've got surge protectors on everything, I have still lost stuff to lighting. :'(

I get randomly forced to log off while browsing the forum, but still go to the page I wanted (no error messages, redirects, or anything). If I click the log in button it tells me I'm already logged in and if I keep browsing I will get logged back in. Most pages are the old slinging.org template, but I can tell instantly that I've been forced off because the forum loads with the YaBB standard blue template. Every time I see a blue background I cringe. I can't post and I can't use my mod powers.

I also get a server error (500) when I try to search the forum for old posts.

NOt sure if it belongs in this thread but I noticed I'm now a "senior member"! I know thats cause of my post count I'm definitely still in the beginning stages of my slinging and still am a Junior not a Senior.
Other than that logging in seems a bit buggy at times. Happy slinging!

The forum rule that you can't reply to a topic in all caps means that anyone who replies to my slinging questions thread will have to change the thread title or else they get an error message.

Change the title of the post from "Re: Ask Questions Here [all caps]" to something not in all capital letters. I can't even include the phrase in a post that contains proper grammar.

Title: Re: Bug report thread - for issues with new forum
Post by curious_aardvark on Jun 19th, 2013 at 10:30am
that should be sorted - i've switched off the caps thingy.

also just spotted possible solution to one of the main problems while messing around on a clients pc.

the blue website is slinging.org
the green one is www.slinging.org

Soon as i get back to my pc I'll re-edit the paths.pl file and put them all on www.slinging.org.
with luck (and a few prayers)  that ought to sort most of the current issues out.

Ok. I like the workability of the site. BUT!!! I am still SERIOUSLY FREAKED OUT AT ALL THE BLUE!!

Can i complain to any one? Suggest we change to Earth Tones. Like Brown or Green??

:) ;) :D ;D

Seriously. The blue is freaking me out.

Slinging and all of the "Earth Projectile {Stuff} should be BRONW OR GREEN.

The BLUE is SERIOUSLY FREAKING OUT MY OCD. It's all wrong. Like in a "Monk" way wrong. :( :(

I was exploring the User CP, and when I clicked the "Options" link under the "Profile" tab, I got the following error message:

Quote:
Can't open directory (www.slinging.org/yabbfiles/avatars)!
Please inform the Administrator of this forum that the $facesdir setting must be fixed immediately.
Verbose: No such file or directory

It's been so long since I did anything with my profile that I don't remember what was on the options page, so I'm not really missing it, but I thought I'd post the error message in case it's a bigger problem.

Thanks for all the work on the new forum!

I canŽt find the FAQ-section.
Watching the picture thread on General slinging discussion and the new Lahun sling thread on Project Goliath I also noted that most of the attached pictures are missing ("attachment deleted").
In the last one I thought to re-attach one of my pictures, but the function for adding pictures disappeared.
IŽll better wait with posting.

YouŽre doing great work with the new forum. Good luck and many thanks.

I think the problem is partly down to browser and cookies caches on people's machines.
Try and clear those and it should help.

I'm hoping to reduce our current 2 yabbfile folders to just one where it used to be.
As well as reduce the templates folders from the current 3 to the expected 2.

Which will either fix some things or break some other things.
:noidea:

There is still some weirdness going on that i hope to fix.

I need enough time to sit down and have a proper session on it (and maybe even read the manual).

But it is interesting that it's working with chrome though.

Possibly java updates are needed ?
(don't know if yabb uses java - but that might be one explanation)

I just need the time and inclination to coincide on the same day :-)

I think it's all down to which files your user account is accessing.

for example - my test account: crashtestdummy. everything works.

but my old account curious_aardvark - i don't get pictures or quotes etc.

it's not logical. but once i've got the time to sit down and move everything into the old folders and check all the paths, permissions etc. I'm hoping it should get sorted.

you can try logging out of the forum and then clearing all browser caches, cookies etc.
And then close your browser, reboot the computer and try logging in from scratch.

Hopefully that'll set your user on the new files and settings.

For the record how are people using portable devices: phones, tablets, game consoles etc effected ?

yeah - I should have some time this weekend to have a go at it all.

Just got a kindle fire hd with shattered screen to try and fix.

Although after 3 hours yesterday and the screen I removed does not look like the replacement part I bought.
Plus lots more broke than first looked like.

But other than that don't think I've got anything urgent this weekend.  So should be able to spend a few hours 'playing' with the forum and seeing if anyone on the yabb forum has ideas.

I'm hoping after I've amalgamated everythig into the old folders that things ought to play nice.

But can't see how that applies to my own getting two different layouts from the same url :noidea:

Hello all,
I've been trying to make a Shepherd Sling (It throws real shepherds!) for a class project, however, there are no photos to go along with the tutorials for the two shepherd slings posted by Lakeslinger.
This makes the project just about impossible.
Can this be fixed, or were they killed off permanently by the update?

any thread that currently says: 'attachment deleted' is lying.

Attachments are still there. But for some reason the forum is currently denying the existence of the attachment folder for some users.

Some users can see the pics and attachments - some can't.
:noidea:

I'll get it fixed eventually.

Just downloaded the cap paul template direct from the server - so  can categorically state that we haven't lost any files, pics or attachments.
For some reason the forum software is claiming the attachments folder is either not there or has wrong permissions.

As far as I can tell both are incorrect: ie it's both there and has all the correct permissions - so it's probably the bloody paths file again.
Just got to copy the backed up forum to my workshop pc and I'll try and fix it.

Also the variances between older and newer user accounts does seem to be independant of web browsers.
which makes even less sense.
On the bright side, I'm almost pathologically stubborn, so I can guarentee that at some point everything will be working properly. Just bear with me folks - this stuff is fiddly and whether something work or not can depend on some pretty obscure and tiny detail in an obscure file.
User friendly it's not.

To be honest it's worked better and sooner than I thought it would :-)

And in case anyone hasn't worked it out yet - crashtestdummy=curious_aardvark
we is one and the same :-)

any file attachments that have ever been uploaded to the forum should be there. All file attachments that have ever been uploaded to the forum are in the attachments folder.

the pictures that don't currently display or show a link(on my computers anyway) are the ones that link to photo server websites - but I've always had issues with american based photo server links anyway.

I'll leave it a few days and see if any of this sorts itself out.

And then I'll see if the yabb guys have any more ideas :-)

I'll stick this here as well.

if you can't see pictures and avatars.
go to your control panel (user cp)
Click Profile.

Then select Options.

confirm your password.

scroll down to the bottom where it says:
'which template would you like to use. '

And select: Old Yabb 2.1 style - modded.

And that should sort it.

I know this loses the custom menu at the top of the page - but I'm working on that.
Hopefully it's just acut and paste html job.

we'll see  ;D

slowly but surely - we're getting there.

sounds like you need to logout and log back in again.

Weird system. if your home router has changed ip address, you need to re-login.

Some things will work, like you can post a new message. But a lot of stuff won't work, like you can't edit the message you just posted. Weird, but that's how it works.
You just need to check the tool bar right at the top of the forum to see if you need to logout and in again.

And hey, good to see a ubuntu user squirrel :thumb:

Thanks for the ideas.

I've already had my settings on the old yabb 2.1 style modded for some time now, but can't see those sections. I tried the links in Teg's post and get the same result as he did, and logging out and in doesn't seem to change anything. Perhaps it's some issue on my computer. Anyway,  let me know if anyone finds out what the problem is.

ah ha - on the left hand side was a small button that said: 'collapse/expand additional features.'

Clicked that and it opened up the whole picture attachment feature - also you hadn't changed to the new template.

If you click the little plus next to the attachments you can add additional pics.

I just noticed, http://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl is the brown template and http://www.slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl is the blue template.

I don't know if I am doing something wrong, but when I click on the Slinging.org logo to return to the home screen, it says I am signed out until I enter a post.

it will do as you are reloading the site and you don't appear to have your browsers configured to save your login details.
Also that does not go directly to the forum.
use this link instead:

Sorry, CA, but you're misunderstanding.

This happens to me, as well.

I can copy and paste the right address (http://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl) straight from the link you just posted or use the bookmark I have saved.  Either way, I always come in not logged in.  See image.

But if I click a link, in this case--Administrative, I'm automatically re-logged in with my saved details.  See image 2

All I did for these examples was to click my bookmark and then click "Administrative".  If I go back to the main forum now, I will stay logged in until the last forum tab is closed.  The only thing I can guess might be happening is that the forum is making the check for saved username/pass AFTER everything loads.  So we're being logged in, but we can't see it until we click another page.

Hope this helps.
