Title: New Forum features and how to use them
Post by curious_aardvark on Jun 14th, 2013 at 1:29pm
This thread is for anyone who finds something interesting in the new forum software to tell us all about it :-)

First off.
You can now have up to 5 attachments to a single post. I may increase it at alater date - but for now let's see how we get on with just the 5.
Click the little '+' next to the attachments to add a new attachment.

You can also now directly embed youtube videos.
Simply click on the 'Insert media button' tilted white oblong next to the 'insert email' button on the top row of buttons below the subject line.
Then insert the shortcut to the video inside the two media links.
without the missing bracket this produces the video below.

I also highlighted the whole thing and added the centre code.

More new features as we find them.

Great change in software, and we seem to have most of our threads and info still intact!

Will the new software enable us to change the colors of the new format to that of the old forum at a latter stage?

working on it. I have the old template - I'd like to keep the news section - but am currently trying to install it on the new forum.

It'll happen :-)

There may be the odd 'forum in maintenance mode' for a while.
Hopefully they'll all be fairly short.

Once I've got the template back - I will backup the new forum configuration. This won't take anywhere near as long as my backup last week (24 hours !) but it will probably be the best part of a day.

In the meantime - have aplay and let us know if you find anything interesting. At some point I'll probably have to read the manul - but till then, explore :-)

Hot diggity that's it ! Sorted out style sheets & templates.
we look like our old self now :-)

There's the quick reply which is nice as it'll save on page download time. What's the 'Alert Moderator' button do?  :-?

Also, where are 'Modify' and 'Chat'?

exactly where they were last time I looked ?
Have you tried logging out and logging back in again ?

hang on, I'll try a standard account.

huh ! okay that's really weird.
(oh yeah it's me - ca)
when I log in with my account - I get the proper forum colour scheme.

But on a standard user account I'm getting the yabb blue colour scheme and header.
Now that is weird.

Modify is there - but not chat as that's part of the old template - which seems to have gone awol.

Okay I was going to redo the template from scratch anyway sometime this week.

Keep posting issues.

I'm guessing it alerts the moderator to a dodgy or unsavoury post.

The clue is in the name :-)

Ah, 'Modify' is there now. Sorry to bother you, great job with the whole renovation and thanks for taking the time to do it.

Can you add avatars? Without them forums are rather boring.

huh - should already be there. also pics aren't displaying.

I 'think' it's all related to the template issue.

I'll sit down and have a solid go at it sometime this week.

After last weeks 6 day effort I'm having a wee break this week to: make sausages, makes summer sausages (sliceable 3lb monsters) cook up a bunch of boneless drumsticks and abunch of ribs for teddy bear weekend this weekend.

search youtube for barton teddies :-)

So basically minimal forum work this week.

The basics are working at the moment. I figure everything else is non-urgent

I'll sit down and seriously have ago at this weird template thing next week.

so have a good weekend and don't do half the things I would do :-)
