Title: Merit Award Petition / Sling Crafter 2 /MickR Post by MickR on Mar 19th, 2013 at 2:37am
I would like to submit my application for Sling Crafter level 2. I have made four different sling styles and I include a picture for your consideration.
One is in the rockman style using sisal rope that I unravelled and re-plaited. The pouch has hootchi cord woven in. The green one is made from sisal garden twine that started off as a 12 strand round plait and worked down to four strand. This has a pouch in, what I believe to be, the balearic style. The third is made from Kangaroo hide lacing, eight strand round plait for the arms and four strand round for the pouch, with some 'roo hide laced roughly into place for better ammo retention. This was the first sling I made, and was done a few years ago originally. The fourth is a simple sling made from sisal rope. I have used all of these for lobbing tennis balls, as well, I have used the 'roo hide for lobbing rocks. Mick |

Can't you get it where you are? I can't really send you any, because customs require me to pay for permits, on top of the original government permit system. If you're in the U.S Tandy should stock it.

Tandy? Not familiar with that one.. I'm on the west coast of the U.S. and that sometimes makes a huge difference.. I'll keep my eyes peeled though. Thanks for the info!

Yeah sorry. I don't know of any other outlets for leather in the US. I hear about Tandy (which is an electrical store here in Australia and has nothing to do with leather at all) in the US all the time. I hear they stock 'roo hide although I don't know what sort of quality it is. You can always order from a mob near me called 'Packers Tannery'. They have an online outlet. http://www.packerdirect.com.au/Home.aspx

I gotta tell ya that honestly, I've never had a leather pouch, and the longer I go without one the less important it seems. Are they really all that?

Well, I thought it was great until my tri-band Rockman style sling came onto the scene. It lives in my pocket ready for instant use. The others just get put in my satchel bag as back-up.

Just as I suspected. I have a new warped loop pouch that I am highly fond of and is vying for the attention my old blue and white paracord with a woven jute pouch usually gets..
