Title: Hello form the Philippines!
Post by slingpotato on Feb 10th, 2012 at 7:57pm
Hey guys!! My name is Gabriel from the Philippines! I've been using the sling for about 2 months already, rekindling the fire that I have for this weapon that started when I was in high school. ;D

Hope to get more infos here and make new friends!

Below are my two personal slings, one is 16' and the other 21', fairly personal sizes.

Hello from Alabama in the U.S.  I like your slings, they are quite colorful and they show some fine craftmanship.  I hope you stick around for a while.

Hello and welcome!
Are the ropes of rubber? I have been thinking, does benefit from the stretch rope the throwing?

Hey guys, thanks for all your complements! I really appreciate it, makes me feel warmly welcomed!  :)

By the way, the measurements that I put on my post are in inches from the ring of the retention cord up to the pouch. With these two slings that I made, I used a scrap leather for the pouch, 2.5' by 6.5' with the pattern I saw here at the forum, 5mm accessory cord for retention and release, and 1mm accessory cord to tie things together, both used for moutaineering.

These are non stretch materials, as back when I was a child, I used to play slingshot when I was introduced with the sling. I tried using the rubber of my slingshot for my sling, and almost hit someone with a rock. haha! My actual first sling was of 3mm accessory cord, and one made with manila hemp, both got lost during my college days.  :D

By the way Timpa, stretchable materials for retention and release are so unpredictable, I can't suggest using them, though I myself am going to try bungee cord just for the heck of it. LOL ;D

KUDOS!

Yep, stretching slings are very bad, they don't store energy and have wild releases.

Like others have said, your slings look very good. I particularly like your whipping (wrapping) on the cords. I've never found any thin cord in the same color as full thickness utility cord.

Thanks xxkid123!

With the wrappings, for the retention ring and the ones attached with the pouch, I used common whipping. These cords are more common here in Manila, and are found mostly in outdoors and mountaineering shops. My plan whe making this two are for it to be durable and strong, and the cords that I have are the ones close to getting the plan done. I am planning to try manila hemp and cotton cord, but first, I really want to perfect that balearic slinging technique. Man they're good! :)

I tried paracord, but here in this country, it is uncommon and is expensive to obtain.

If you notice the frays on the end of the release, I actually delicately burned a part of the cord to hold it together, much like burning the end of a paracord. It gives a gentle whipcrack when I sling stones. hehe!
