After reading about "our" guys who was on Mallorca, I wanted to get a feeling of what it could be like to slung toward such a balearic target. And I wanted it to be easy to take with me.
So I had this idea of cutting a piece of white tarp into 1.2 X 1.2 Meter with a hole 0.5 Meter in diameter.
( someone may translate that measurment into feet - I can not)

I added yellow tarp-holders in three corners.

When I hang it up between two trees in the wood I added strong tent-rubber-band in three corners to take up some of the impact-force.

So now I can bring this with me very easy and put it up in under 5 minutes.  


Ideas for the future;
* something to add on the backside to collect the stones that goes thru the diana ( It´s no panic I´m far away ;) )
* Or have a metal piece behind for a nice sound when hit diana..

So it was just a hole.  Simple but clever.  For getting the feel of the balearic target without the bother it should be just fine.
Might be just what I need too.

It's great! You are a genius!  That is so simple and so practicle.  And it can be carried and set up almost anywhere.  And, some of the members who live in cities and use parks can set that up and practice and take it down when they leave.  And if they use tennis ball, they will never wear it out.

That is shown in that short shaky film: I just tie it up with cord around two trees.

Thank you for that praise.  :) Yes, it´s very easy to bring with you and set up.

I`m thinking that some duct tape reinforcement inside the hole and along the "cut" sides would not hurt.  And it`s fast, simple and reasonably cheap to do.

I think your target is perfect, Ulrica.  It's brilliant in its simplicity.  

Now that is an excellent idea. If the edges of the fabric, especially in the centre, can take the hits without tearing then I forsee this becoming very popular.  It is probably worth looking at traditional sailmaking techniques for making strong hems.

A simple close weave net on the other side of the trees hanging down to the ground would stop the diana 'hits'  very well.

I made one.  It`s simply a great idea.  It works just as intended, and can be carried in a big pocket if necessary.
I applied liberal amounts of duct tape to mine as reinforcement, because that`s what I do :D

Also if you use netting for the square it will absorb the stone and be less likely to tear.

Same principle as ulricas, and could be used between trees just as easily as on a frame.

The netting I used is green cotton netting doubled up. With the bungee cord attachment it will absorb rocks and golf balls slung at it hard at point blank raneg and just drop them on the ground.
Lighter and more durable than tarp :-)
I got it at my local army surplus. wasn't expensive.


IN hind sight the frames are waaaayy more complicated than they needed to be.
But hey, they did the job :-)

This netting could also be taped to the back of the Ulrica target to catch the stones and improve the durability of the target. leave the bottom unattached so that any stone going through the hole or tarp will be caught and dropped to the ground.

I used my Ulrica Target today, with bandy balls.  To have less bother with my "Diana hits" I improvized c_a`s netting with an old bandana and a bit of string to hold it + 2 clothes-peg`s as weights in the lower corners.  This was to light when the wind came, but the priciple held, most Dianas was deflected down instead of soaring on into the underbrush.
It`s bad enough spending time searching for the misses, but much worse doing it for the perfect hits :D

It is quite intersting to experience a Balearic-type target, and it shows me clearly how difficult I find aiming at something which is as big as 50 centimeters.  I want something tiny to aim for, maybe if I use the bandana again I`ll make some kind of spot or mark on it.

The target itself continued to be great; take out of bicycle bag (in this case) and tie it to some trees, not all that complicated :)

I`ll just add; the bandana thing was hanging much firmer when in use, the ammo flew through the hole but was then directed gently down behin the target by the cloth.  Some small stones or hex nuts tied in the lower corners might keep the thing hanging down in at least moderate wind.  
The other tarp thing in the picture is some sorry remains of a lean-to used by a near-by day care center when the kids spend time out in the woods.
