Or what are you just really in the mood for recently.

I'm sure many of us go through stages of certain music, so what are you guys listening to now?
I've just recently learned of Rise Against, and they have some songs I like a lot, so they've been played quite a lot.

Hero of War- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaTqrdZ_cgQ    (current favorite)
Savior- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eddbQeoBOs
Make it Stop (Septembers Children)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_90eOj6iWXI

The Bravery-everything (message me if you want to listen to my favorite song of theirs, the title too explicit to post though the song isn't.)
The Maine-"The Way We Talk (Remix)"
Cute is What We Aim For-"the Curse of Curves"
Death Cab for Cutie-everything
Nirvana-"Smells Like Teen Spirit"
Greenday-"Teenagers"
Benny Benassi-"Who's Your Daddy"
The postal Service-"This Place is a Prison"
Rise Against-"Prayer of the Refugee"

Listen to "the Approaching Curve" and "Prayer of the Refugee" from Rise Against. Those are my two favorite songs of theirs.

I'm going to be jamming with an old buddy of mine.  We played together for many years and will be getting back together shortly.  Two songs I suggested and we'll be doing are Good Riddance by Green Day and City of New Orleans by Arlo Guthrie. I do a mean Subterranean Homesick Blues by Bob Dylan too, so I'll probably push for that next.  I've been playing guitar for 51 years.. I play all sorts of guitars; mostly acoustic, electric arch-top hollow body, and reso.  I also play harmonica (very well), mess with the keyboards a little, and sing.  I know hundreds of songs so I could go on for quite some time.

Great to hear, Rat Man.    I've been playing since about 1976, myself.  In addition to guitar (and I make cigar-box guitars and other instruments) I play a little banjo, mandolin, and harmonica.

I'm a "roots" kind of guy; singer-songwriter stuff, old blues, alt-country material...  Just bought a new guitar, a Taylor "GS Mini".  It's a small-bodied acoustic steel-string I got to accommodate my aging shoulders.

Working on a couple of old blues tunes fingerstyle; "Hesitation blues" and "Key to the Highway".   Also Townes' great jam tune, White Freightliner.

Kewl. Some of my favorites from RA are Chamber the Cartridge, The Dirt Whispered, Everchanging, From Heads Unworthy. Although their political views are weird, their sound is good.

The album that these songs are on litterally changed my life. I was driving down the road, started to listen to the lyrics and made a decision that put me on the right path.

I had the pleasure of meeting the lead singer in Richmond, Va a couple of years ago. He is an interesting guy to talk to.

Now you got me worried lol.
Death metal, incomprehensible roaring lyrics ?
And it changed your life. Weird but hey we're cool with weird round here lol

Currently the new accept album with the almost sound-alike-udo singer is truly excellent, Some of their best ever work. Played that a lot.
Need to update the sd card in the car as that's just got judas priest on it :-)

Quite like eliza doolittle - but that may have more to do with how she looks in a tight dress than the music lol
Dunno really nothing really springs to mind at the moment.

And rat man and bikewer - do we have the makings of  aslinging.org theme song band here ?
Go on, you know you want to !

Just found these guys: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCopcNpzc60 About 40 seconds in it's pretty much an eargasm....for me anyway.

Played piano, drums, and a bit of violin for 8+years, so although I enjoy modern music, something about a piece like this that just so bloody skillful and thoroughly mastered by the musicians is refreshing  8-)

Not death metal in the slightest CA, there is a very positive message in those songs.

Just slightly OT...   I'm on a number of guitar-oriented forums, including Ultimate Guitar.  Most of the folks there are younger...
I'm no "metal" fan, but I was amazed to learn that there were so many different genres and sub-genres of this form.    "Melodic Death Metal".  I thought they were pulling my leg.  Must be 20-30 different flavors.
They all sound pretty much the same to me...

My mind has been blown. Then again, I'm not all that surprised, people always make sub genres for genres and so on and so forth, and its music so that just increases the diversity ten fold.

Don't know about other countries, but in  in Germany a while ago some scientist stated that really intelligent youngsters preferred to listen to metal.

My impression is that quite a number of people since then have turned logics around and are trying to gain intelligence by listening to metal.

Not sure if that works.

The band I'm really into today is "Yeah Yeah Yeah's"  I like music that has good lyrics and conveys a lot of emotion in the lyrics, vocals and especially the backup.  Too many bands these days just have a flat back up that just ups the tempo or changes the beat a little, but actually isn't music at all, as in it would be terrible to listen to without the vocals.  I may go from blues to rock to even dance music, or folk etc. it doesn't really matter the genre to me, it is just the feel of the music.

What I'm listening to most at the moment are "yeah yeah yeah's," "The Black Angels", "Tool", "The Ting Ting's," "Lady Ga Ga,(only pop music artist I like some of?)", "Ravonettes," "The white stripes".
But my list goes all over the place of all time favorites.

starting to listen to a lot of indie-pop. usually don't like pop for their lack of lyrics, and the bands/singers themselves (ahem-rihanna). i've always liked Sea Wolf, but never looked too deep in their genre.

I am really more of a country and rock type guy and I'll listen to almost all music except pop and the majority of metal. When I can, I listen to Jason Aldean and Billy Currington, but I haven't really gotton around to putting them on my Ipod so I ususally listen to Skillet and Thousand Foot Crutch more often.

As far as one song I really like a lot of Aldean's work but mst recently probably Preleator by Globus (look it up if you haven't heard it and make sure you listen to the whole thing.)

Good ol' Thingy Dale. Surf music was a bit thing when I was in high school, and Mirslou was a big hit. Odd story behind that. The song is an old Middle Eastern one, maybe 19th Century, originally for the oud. Apparently popular at weddings, etc. Misr is Egypt, and Lou is a girl of Muslim backgound, as opposed to a Coptic Christian. Thingy's father was an oud player. (I'm writing thingy on purpose: sorta funny.) It's been said that much surf music shows a Middle Eastern influence, not the R&B or rock that was current.

I have a brand-new resonator guitar, so I've been working on some material by Bob Brozman and a few other slide artists.

However, the most-played songs on my iPod are currently from the folk group "Redbird" (Jeffery Foucault and friends) and also some old Sergio Mendez stuff.

Irish stuff, Damien Dempsey and especially Declan O'Rourke. Here's a clip of a live performance in NY by Declan.

http://youtu.be/8Vx7Fi-nttA

It's not often I hear something once and love it. Josh Groban has also done a version of this song and while technically it is more perfect, it somehow lacks the "feeling" of the original.

Another brilliant irish singer/songwriter is Lisa Hannigan. One of her biggest hits is "Lille". Same respose, instantly fell in love with this song and with the lady herself!  :-*

This one has been going round in my head for the past few days. Jose Gonzalez.

I do most of my music listening on the way to work. Plug in the iPod and either just hit random-play for the 600+ tunes in there at present or one of my playlists.
The two playlists I've been listening to the most are one titled "Americana" which included Tom Russell, Dave Alvin, James McMurtry, etc.

The other (for a bit of diversity...) is Sergio Mendez.  I've liked Sergio's stuff since his first band, "Brasil 66".  Saw 'em live just after I got out of the army...

A few weeks ago I saw Joe Walsh with B.B. King.  B.B. is 86, so he could only do a few songs.  What he did was excellent, but 86 is 86.  Joe Walsh, on the other hand, looked none of his 64 years old.  He could have easily passed for 30.  The whole time I was watching him perform I'm thinking "Wait a minute, this guy is seven years older than I am!!"  Anyway, he was so good I haven't been able to get his music out of my head.  He did stuff from the Eagles, of course.  Life In the Fast Lane was a biggie.  He did a lot of his solo hits and even went back to his James Gang days with funk 49.

Anyway, it was the best show I've seen in a while.  Great stuff!

Can't go wrong with the Beatles.  They could write songs as well as anyone.  Even when they were in their bubble gum phase they could still rock.. Twist and Shout, Roll Over Beethoven, Good Golly Miss Molly, etc..  One of the things I like the most about the Beatles is that they could actually perform.  They didn't need to lip sync or need a bunch of prerecorded junk or effects like many of today's so called musicians.  You threw them on the stage and they played.
It's good to see you back, JustKnot.  Don't be a stranger.

Funny how the Beatles' covers of stuff like Twist and Shout were bigger than the originals. But not as good, IMHO. "Pale" imitations, is a sense.

Not as good as the originals by any means; yes, pale imitations indeed,  but they still rocked pretty good.

For now, it's Chromose Y, from Les Béruriers Noirs that's stuck in my head
The lyrics googletranslated :

In the hands of the State,
force is called right
the hands of the individual,
it is called crime ...

Oh Y chromosome x2

Mama am I a killer?
happiness in the blood,
Is what you are afraid?
and I would kill my sister ...

Saving my heart,
to when disaster?
behind in the area,
the murderer is dying ...

The knife full of blood,
murdering a child,
and dying evening,
the killer is scared!

Sentenced to death
and wrongly convicted,
the executioner is happy,
and the murderer in tears!

In the electric chair,
or the guillotine,
by a sordid morning
the smiling assassin ...

The blood of the murderer,
flowed to the feet,
from the crowd disgusted,
of the executioner ...

In the hands of the State,
force is called right
the hands of the individual,
it is called crime ...

Oh Y chromosome x6

Far from perfect, but still better than nothing...

and there is also "Salut à toi", from the same... that would make a waaaaaaaaay better national hymn than the "ready to war" Marseillaise we have here in France... Plus a nice geography lesson :p

I listen to Robert Johnson, the father of the blues.  I listen to him when I braid slings.  He only wrote 14 (or so) songs but they changed the face of music forever.  His recordings are rough but they say if you were in his presence he was overwhelming.  There may be something to that legend about him at the crossroads.  The only book I read is the Bible.  The devil's music and The Word of God.  I always listen for some clue when Robert sings, something that may have led him astray.  We all have chinks in our armour.  The Bible is a living, breathing, 4 dimensional model for behaviour and I gotta tell ya, I really dig it.  Read between the lines, watch the doughnut, not the hole and make up your own mind.  Everyday things are filled with information you just have to watch for it.  That's why I love the Sling.  It's simple, yet lethal.  It's art, and power, it's craft and weapon.  And absolutely no one can tell you what you can or can't do with it.  Sorry, got off track, ummm, I listen to the Blues......................

Your post reads almost like a Blues song, fletch_man.  Robert Johnson is of course awesome. I also very much like Son House.  Many of the old Blues masters consider Son House the father of the Blues.  He is very rough and raw, but I love him.

Also, cellist Yo Yo Ma recently did an album with some prominent bluegrass artists called The Goat Rodeo Sessions.   Bluegrass/classical fusion...

Lately I've been listening to a bit of pop, including the before mentioned LMFAO, some OneRepublic, and a smattering of Gaga and P!NK.

I've also looked at some of the Pop Punk/Pop Rock sorta stuff too. I'm starting to really like Blink182, and of course the Wonder Years, which has always been a personal favorite (my friend is related to the singer, and they're from my hometown).

Here's something a friend recently showed me. It's really great. Although it's not a song or band, is is something I'm obsessed about.

BEHOLD:

(fanfare)

http://loudcaster.com/channels/483-epic-rock-radio-err

It's an internet radio with only powermetal and progressive metal (associate with rock like sound, Guns and Roses or AC/DC for those unsure). I nearly gave up on finding good bands and songs. Often when you go into metal you must sort through hundreds of different bands that don't exactly match the sound your looking for. Good guitar, lyrics is all screaming; Would be good if they didn't autotune; Wish it was heavier; etc. No more of that now lol.

I was obsessed with Eric Clapton's unplugged album for a long time. One of the best albums out there in my opinion. This is one of my favorites. This song has been covered numerous times but I've always liked Clapton's voice so it's my favorite version.

Hallo guys,
I'd like to introduce you to the "Ladri di carrozzelle", "Thieves of wheelchairs", a very special Italian rock band.
Its members are young, and suffering from serious diseases: dystrophy, dwarfism, Down syndrome.
Nonetheless, they have balls and perform gigs to promote the medical research; here's their homepage:

http://www.ladri.com/ladri/

Don't worry, you don't have to buy anything. Nor there're "Donate" buttons.
I just want to promote their music because my father is 100% invalid after a stroke.
You can download their songs for free, and if you want a translation, just ask me  :)
Greetings,
Mauro.

EDIT: here, spend 5 minutes listening to one of their best songs  :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqKxAuXXYdI
