WOW Slingingrat we must be on the same wavelength or something because that looks very much like my preferred leather pouches. Small slit, fairly small over all. Perfect. Can't wait to give it a go, thanks!

Here's the one I made for Cthulhu. Hopefully he likes it. It's woven pretty tight so it needs to be worn in a bit, but after that the Peruvian style makes good slings.

Was hoping to get it out today, didn't happen though. Will have to do it tomorrow for sure.

I made a nylon/jute four strand braid rockman for slingingrat.

You did make an awesome sling, Morphy.  It's hard to believe that was your first try.

Yea...despite the way I talk I'm actually pretty handy with most crafts. It's the 4 strand braid (or anything harder then the 3 strand actually) that gave me trouble. Not even the braid so much as what would happen when I would inevitably lose my place and couldn't find which strand I was supposed to be on. Once that would start happening I would get frustrated and quit.

This time I took someone else's advice and practiced over and over on scrap yarn until I figured out how to find my place once I lost it. Once I figured that out it was pretty easy.

It's a good bit of kit, tried it out with a tennis ball last night - plus I've cracked the whole stitching cord to leather bit as well.

Just set my hole punch on it's smallest setting and punch  a row of holes where the cord is going to go. Man did that make life easier :-)
I could put a lot more layers of stitching in - now way should that retention loop wear out :-)

got Morhy's sling earlier today. Love it. pic is already posted earlier in the thread, but meh. It is a really nice change from my hemp Balearic ones... gets a little rough on the hands when it starts to get colder out.  Really clean release , nice handiwork, and i love the coloring. plain brown, though classic, gets a little boring after a while.

I received SlingingRat's sling in the mail today. It's a great looking sling. The pouch has a small slit in it. Big enough to maneuver the pouch around irregular shaped stones but small enough that nothing but a pebble could fall out. Diamond shaped pouch of a good size. Well woven not too tight, not too loose. Also has a nice bead on the release cord. I'm very happy with it. I have not slung any stones with it yet but judging from my practice throws I imagine it will work as good as it looks.

As for the release bead i am going to ''try'' and tell u how to do this and if dosent work i will have try and take some pics anyway when u are making the rease cord u have tapper it so the bead will fit on it then about an inch or so from were u want the bead to be put a kitting needle it the cord to hold open a small gap then do this right were u want the bead to be then put bead on the cord and tread the end of the cord though the two gaps the needles were holding open till now and then put whipping on it ot hold it there and thats it

As for the whipping this i will have to take pics of cause i dont know how to tell u to do it with out them sorry

I got that paracord on a 500 foot spool from Ubraidit.com.

I also bought their book on braiding custom tack. It taught me some good braids. Browse their site and put an order together -- you won't be sorry. Their paracord is not necessarily mil-spec, but the color choice is completely unmatched anywhere I have looked. I've had black, white, silver, green, red, crimson (your sling is "crimson"), royal blue, purple, neon pink, neon orange, neon yellow, neon green ...

This doesn't have anything to do with slinging, but it surely looks interesting.  I have to learn to make this.

Ah, yes, I remember looking at that dog harness and considered buying one to study their design and
maybe make some. I haven't done so at this point, and in part because I would be tempted to want to make and sell them, and I think that would be wrong. I have a huge respect for the women (mother and daughter) who formed Ubraidit, having learned to braid spectacular horse tack. As the story goes, there was so much demand for their craft, friends of theirs suggested they write a book on how to do it, and with some help, they did.

well, i got my sling from Redbeard the other day and, i have to say, i am extremely impressed! especially for a relative newcomer, this is a well crafted and cool looking sling. hemp and leather only. it's a bit on the long side for me at about 36'' but still functions beautifully. i think we can expect great things from Redbeard. thanks again, man!   :D

I just recieved my slings from dork and they looks great! One is very simple but cool, it has a ziptied leather apache pouch(instead of sewing), the other is what I believe to be a small rockman style poch made from jute. I tried them out yesterday and they both excelled when using tennisballs or small rocks.

Thanks I am glad you like it . I recently have found a new enjoyment of larger ammo and make most of my slings accordingly so.

hey guys, i think my sling might be a little late. my receiver is probably pretty busy right now, and i don't have his address yet.

 Sorry for being so late with this!  Here's the sling I recieved from Dan, it is a braided split pouch with a tapered release cord.  From the tests I've put it through it works well too!  Sorry for the bad pics, I am still learning to use my camera and I couldn't take them outside.

Better late than never.  Cthulhu sent me this heavy duty war sling for the last SITH but I didn't have a camera at the time, so I never posted a picture, only a description.  I'd forgotten how much fun a huge sling that can hurl fist sized rocks can be.  This big guy inspired me to make a few more big war slings.

 I have never seen Sargon Of Akkad's sling design before, it looks kind of neat, a leather pouch where you can use both sides of the pouch.

For some reason I considered the side with the stitching (1st picture) to be the "inside" and used that side, but either side would work fine.  It's a great sling and I use it regularly.

rockman sling, experimenting around with basic colors (just a four strand braid, but i haven't done a colored one before). it's 29 inches.

Here's the sling BrianGrubbs sent me. It's really a great sling. The pouch, finger loop, and release tab are all suede leather, and I think the cords are nylon. They're braided with 4-strand round braids. Overall the workmanship is really nice. I really like the comfortable feel of the leather finger loop.

 Wow, nice looking sling!  How did you do the release tab?  Like how did you tie off the end of the braid after you passed it through the tab and is there one layer of lather or is it folded over?  I'm asking because I make mine by cutting a diamond-ish shaped piece of leather then I fold it in half and punch a hole a little ways back through both layers while folded and then thread the braid through and thread the loose ends through the braid then whip them to keep it tight.

I don't currently have the means to get a photo posted, but my sling from xxxkid123 arrived today, and I have to say that in all honesty, I am impressed! It's a really well-made, good-lookin' Rockman sling. I haven't had the chance to take it out to use it yet, but it feels like it's going to be lightning quick!

This is the Rockman sling that I got in the SITH. It is Jute with acrylic yarn for the cracker in brown and red. This sling is amazing! No lie, I will be using it as one of my everyday slings for a long time.

Crap, the sling I made for slingingrat is lost in the mail somewhere.  This is a first for me.  Of course I'll make another one for him.  I hope that where ever the four strand Rockman is, it's at least appreciated.  Here's one more picture of it below.  So it's a surprise, the new sling won't be a Rockman.

Blue Sky arrived in the mail late yesterday.  I'll get a picture up as soon as this migraine goes away.  It's absolutely beautiful.  I think everyone will be envious.  Thanks for a great sling.. I'm sure it will kick butt.  Personally I'm in a slump.  It takes a while to make a Cobra and I've made two ugly ones in a row.  That's never happened before.  I'll pull out of it and get everything out that's supposed to go out shortly.

Sling In The Hat. We organize and trade slings by drawing names out of a hat to make it random. Instead of pairing off though each person sends a sling to one member but recieves their new sling from another. Like standing in a circle and everyone passing a sling to their right. Our last one was just before Christmas, and the first ever was about 6 months before that.

Hmmm,colejack3 sendt his sling in my direction December 15 I think, and now it is well into January, maybe so well it is time for me to worry about the mishaps of the postal system.... :(

I'm glad you like it, sl, and again I'm sorry it took so long for you to get it.  I use slings like this all of the time.  You'll find it works quite well and will give you a nice bull whip crack if you want.  It's actually an extremely modified pj.
