How can I get one?  Are they sold in Hong Kong?

I am not much of a slingshot person. I had an old trumark, but the bands broke and walmart didn't sell any. Furthermore, wrist braced slingshots are illegal in new york.

For me this goes against the grain. It´s the combination of a simple "primitive" weapon kinda upgraded with all kinds of high tech gear (a slingshot with telescopic sights, come on).
Bit like the blowgun I saw a while back, it had a laser targeting system... ::)

Unduly complicated, overly mechanical....I want one!

 I have an old american boys book from the 1800's that has a plan for one of these in it.  They are nothing new, just a logical progression from a slingshot.

anyone know the legality of slingshots in Folsom California? i'm not bringing it anywhere, but i do like to do some plinking in a backyard.

I remember you were looking for a blowgun- guess that's a no-no now. Slingshots are not banned. However, a law from antique days bans slungshot-(read: rope dart) and some old people might get confused. Like how old people at the beach try to call the cops on me because they think I have a "slingshot". "No, it's a sling." "YEAH, THAT'S WHAT I MEAN, A SLINGSHOT! AND THATS ILLEGAL! The more powerful bands also supposedly shoot up to 200 yards, so be careful with it. The one I used before was a cheap and reliable s9, which had a cool ammo storage system in the handle.  I have some slingshots, but I have never hunted with them, (should try for some squirrels I guess...) but you can also make them if you can get ahold of any surgical tubing.  That is really what the bands are made of anyway.  What else do you guys use to make a good elastic on them?

surgical  tube is too thick which leads to inaccurate shooting.
much air inside in it and will lead to inaccurate shooting with loud sound.

now i will teach you  a way to get rid of air inside.

I can't decide if "Danny" is a commercial spammer or just enthusiastic....He did send me an e-mail to the effect that he was a dealer in the mechanical slingshots.

I read a book on the mechanics/science of slingshots recently (actually, on "human powered" projectiles generally) and the guy went into considerable detail.  He found that there were no real standards on "surgical" tubing, as it was not made for this purpose.   One lot might be good, another might have considerably less velocity and strength.
He also found that holding the weapon fully drawn for more than a second or so seriously decreased the power.  Seems the latex rubber "adjusts" to it's stretched condition.

I see the current rage in commercial slingshots is flat-band rubber material, specially made for the industry.

flat bands are nice because they last longer, and are just as good, you can also make flat bands have a shootover style, which makes the slingshot more accurate.

Yeah... Me too. The dankung thing i said before must have aggravateded him, cause he sent me something about how his western customers emailed him because dankung botched up their slingshots.

On the other hand, Danny just seems to be trying to really sell some stuff. Spam is repeatedly bombarding the forum with the same posts, like the kim kardashian sex tape or the russian post.

i assume he's angry about the Dakung comparison because they are reknowned for selling cheap and bad quality slingshots. it's like asking this forum why it has nothing to do with slingshots, since the name depicts that.

I'm glad you all were able to get more out of what he wrote than I did. I couldn't quite make out what he was saying other than Dankung was in there somewhere, and apparently he sold something.

I chalked it up to an illiterate spammer.

Not quite spam in my opinion, but commercial posts anyhow.

His English is better than my Chinese, for whatever that's worth.

nice. i would make one if i had some good slingshot bands, but since i don't i can't. give it a few more days and it might be 4 out of 5. i find that within six hours of shooting i can be good enough to hunt rabbits.

we're currently taking the side that he's not an actual spammer. He engages in dialogue and answers questions.

Can't knock him for wanting to sell his gear, paleoarts does, and as long as the forum isn't turned into a shopfront as such - ratman and I are happy to keep him around.

It's a fine line but at the moment we think he's on the right side of it.

Anyone feels otherwise let us know :-)
